I am trying to lose weight and encourage my 6 year old daughter to be more active. She can leave the table full and then see some sort of snack somewhere and tell me she is hungry. She is now 69 lbs and going into the 1st grade. She is tall for her age but needs to lose about 3 pounds to be back at the 99% of the growth chart. So far the first week of summer vacation I have been walking the dogs and taking the kids to the park everynight after dinner. She had no clue I am trying to help her slim down and I took most of the snacks out of the house. I left some 100 calories snacks, fat free pudding packs and fruit. I want to keep the kids really busy but at the same time I would like to eventually sit down myself occasionally. I don't want to give her a complex about her weight or make her feel bad about herself so I am trying to just play it up as a summer being active thing, but boy could Mom take a rest. I exercise every morning before the kids get up, drop the kids off, go to work, come home, cook dinner, extertain the kids and dogs, put kids to bed, do laundry and clean house, go to bed. Sadly this is only the first week of summer and I am already exhausted. ha ha

I can sympathize with all three of you on those problems. I have been here for 3 to 4 yrs and during that time I have had a daughter who is fixing to be two and having major problems getting my weight off. I had lost 60 pounds the first go around and then put 45 back on and now trying to get it back off. When i get frustrated I tend to binge eat on sweets and also lose the consistency to keep on track. So far since I started back the middle of April I am down 12 pounds and do my walk tapes 3 to 4 times per day. The weight is not coming off as fast as it did the first go around but I will succeed but it just might take me a little longer than before. Good luck to all of you.

My biggest challenge is consistency. I'll go hard for a week or two, but then...especially when I don't see a lot results from all that work...I give in to something I KNOW will have an adverse affect.

Biggest Challenge? Not binging on sweets. I do well for a week or so & then I go to a Sheetz and go nuts...donuts, cookies .dessert coffee drinks..you name it. Then for some reason when I load myself down w/ sweeta I then want something salty so enter the chips. It becomes a viscous cycle. I read an article today about going to a registered dietician. I think I might check it out. emoticon

I am new to sparkpeople. i joined years ago and haven't come back on till now. My biggest challenge right now is the fact that I am 35 and losing weight is not what it used to be. It is so hard to not get discouraged when I do what used to work for me and nothing happens. I am trying to stay motivated but it is hard. Btw...I like the little tickers you all have, where can I get one? emoticon

Finding me time is definitely my biggest challenge. I have actually started to write a weekly "mommy do" list broken down by day to make sure I get everything done (on time) and I track 2 weeks out on that to-do list. I am a full-time online college student (Bachelor's to teach Geoscience) which demands dedication and whole chunks of time to keep homework on schedule plus I have just started building my own business which demands that same dedication and mom to an exceptional 6 year old and I am very active in her school and the parents associations. I have started getting up earlier in the morning (sometimes 2AM) just to make sure I can get everything done plus get in my exercising every day. The downfall is that now I am starting to get sleep deprived and that has health issues of its own that I will have to contend with. Later at some other time. I look at as positively though. It will not always be this hectic and I am obtaining invaluable lessons in time management and critical thinking. The likes of which could not be taught in any classroom or book!

After work, cooking dinner & checking homework, after my child has gone to bed I find it really hard to get motivated to do anything other than watch TV and have a small snack (at least they're healthier snacks lately).

I really need to get more motivated to work out.

My greatest struggle has been staying in my calorie range! I do good for about 3 days and then I go off track! Doing a better job of reeling myself back in faster though! I am going to do THIS!!

My biggest Challenge so far is getting motivated to exercise. From chasing the kids around all day and keeping the house clean I get run down and have a lack of energy, so I have to try to get my exercise in first thing in the morning after my 6y/o gets on the bus and before the 2y/0 gets out of bed.

I find it hard to work all day, then do family things when I Get home and find time for me and exercise. I also have a hard time that I work hard at excercising and yet see no change in the scale. I would just like to see some movement there.

I've got 2 littles. Little Mister is 6 and Little Miss is 3 (and fancies herself the oldest). My biggest challenge is just finding time in the day to exercise without one (or both) of them demanding my time. Or the Wii, if that's what I've chosen to use. Or just fighting. And I'll admit, I haven't made it a priority, either, so that's a huge part of it. We homeschool, so there's no break in the day where the kids aren't here. I wouldn't change that for anything, though. I just need to work out a better schedule for us. One that takes my own needs into account, which hasn't been a priority thus far.

Portion Control, Keeping positive, exercise, saying no when ICE CREAM and cake pop into my mind. I walked by both isles today without looking back!!!!! Thanksgiving is coming up, a holiday that I will be celebrating, so that will be quite a challenge. Seeing as though I have plenty of ideas on what I want to prepare. Self-sabotage is a big problem with me. It's like my mind likes being "fat". Or maybe since I used to be thin, my mind still doesn't want to believe that I need to loose weight? I can't figure out why I sabotage myself, but I know things have to change.

It seems like when I do really really good, I realize how good, and then only want to eat totally bad foods for me. HELP.... Moose on the LOOSE. Just kidding. Jen

It is a tie between eating enough to get within my allotted calories. If I eat the way I was I will blow away the amount of calories I am allotted. So I tend to restrict myself which sometimes works out and sometimes falls short. And then of course the the other challenge is "getting over" the disappointment of seeing the scale not budge! emoticon

Not staying upset with myself that I have to relose weight I just lost a year ago! I also get jealous when I see people that have been doing so well in their weight loss and I have been slacking.
I pep talk myself daily though, people driving by me probably think I am a nut! I remind myself that I can do this, I have done it before, and how great I feel!

Mine is logging my food and trying to eat health 7 days a week, instead of just 5 (the work week is so much easier for me to eat right). But my hard work is starting to work, my family is starting to watch calorie intake and portion size. So maybe as they continue it will be easier for me.

Journaling my food intake so that I can stay within my calorie range. So I know some days I don't get close to the minimum and others I go way over.

Getting up to my calorie range! I can't seem to eat enough ... I just adjusted my cardio from what I'm used to just to get the calorie count down to something I can handle - problem is, I plan on not doing but xxx min of cardio but then we do something fun and stuff and well my cardio min skyrocket.

Wouldn't that beat all if I really haven't been eating enough all these years???

Staying in my calorie range. I exercise but the weekends are so hard for me to stay in my range. I am often hanging out with friends that don't care how many calories they eat, though they should because they are bigger than me.

My biggest challenge so far has been excercising during my TOM. I ended up taking my heaviest day off and eating chocolate (though still within my calorie range), then going light on the second day, by excercising on my bed instead of the floor. My muscles didn't feel this as much, so I guess it didn't do as much for me lol.

Hi Skipper! I haven't been able to resist holiday sweets either. =( It's so hard to pass a counter of goodies and not indulge. I did try to keep to the minimum but I still don't think I did so well lol. I have one more night of calorie suicide lol. I found a recipe for eggnog punch and just had to have it. I'm sooo weak.

The temptation of Christmas goodies. I fell bad if I don't have at least a few goodies for Christmas the low fat versions didn't make a hit here.

lately i have the same issue with not getting my water in. I try to keep my water bottle full and with me at all times that way it is a little easier for me to remember to drink it.

I'm still not exercising regularly - I know how important this is but I just can't get into the "exercise groove"!

My biggest challenge right now is getting thinner in the tummy area. I was doing okay for a while, but took my measurements a couple days ago and I had gained almost 4 inches in the waist!! I gained everywhere else too, but only about 1/4 of an inch on those places. Very frustrating!

Well I finally lost the last 1-2 pounds and I am at goal weight so now my biggest challenge is shrinking these thighs!

Biggest challenge - not grabbing the chocolate that is in the house. I buy my sons bite-sized versions of things I don't like, so that's not a temptation. It's the stuff my Mum buys - agh!!! I'm working on it, though. And, she is starting to listen to my pleas & is not getting it as often.
