I would say that if you were up moving then the wii counts just get that heart pumping more than the resting level. You are not a bad mom by the way just because you dont don physical stuff with your kids. You feed them and take care of them and are there when they need you right? So don't beat yourself up we have all been there. I am there now. I work two jobs and then homeschool the oldest at night so we dont hve time to play very often, but that doesn't make me a bad mom. We just all get busy or our bodies get in a mode where they physically dont want to. Thats when we have to make ourselves get up and go!

walk my daughter to school (1.25 mile round trip) every morning and home every afternoon as well as take my 2 year old in the stroller with me for my morning walk (4.50 round trip)! they love love love it.....

Here's what I've done with my 9 year old so far - play hide-n-seek about once per week, walk a trail to playground about once per week, walk the dog 3-4 times a week, and specific house chores about an hour per week.

9/12 2 hours. We had a yardsale, so we carried boxes and items from our building to our front yard, then back when it was over. While we were waiting for people to stop, I played kickball with all three kids and then monkey in the middle, and then after we came back inside, my two daughters and I danced.

I haven't had a chance to officially sign up for this challenge, but I love the idea!!!! As the kids are getting back to school and I am back at work the chance to get exercise in gets limited, so activity with the kids is really important to me. I especially realize that my older children really talk when we are doing something active and it makes a great opportunity to connect. This week I did kayaking, soccer, tag, swimming, and walking with my kids. Out of 475 minutes for the week about 135 offical minutes were with my kids...I know we had more time that I didn't really tally because I felt like I didn't do that much myself- like playing at the park...usually I am just making sure the littlest one isn't going to fall off the play structures!!! Anyway, kudos t everyone who is participating in this challenge and thanks to the person who thought of it!

Baby Carrier Exercises

Baby carriers allow you to have two free hands while still keeping your baby close. But, while they're great for household tasks and errands, they can also be exercise equipment. With your baby on your chest, you can do lower body strengthening activities, using your baby's weight as resistance. Talk about multitasking!

Here are some tips to get you started:

* Moms: don't begin a postpartum exercise program until your health care provider has given you clearance.
* Avoid using a baby carrier until your baby has developed good head control.
* Choose a carrier that is comfortable, ergonomic, and well-padded in the shoulders.
* Avoid twisting motions.
* Always keep your abs in tight (to protect your back) and pay close attention to your posture, pulling your shoulders down and back. (Front carriers tend to pull your shoulders forward.)
* Most carriers can hold newborns and toddlers up to 30 pounds.
* A snugly fit carrier will offer you the most support.
* Avoid exercises that compromise your balance. Hold onto a wall or chair since the weight of your baby on your chest will change you center of gravity.


Once you have clearance to go and a supportive carrier, try these exercises:

* Walking: Avoid excessive inclines and uneven terrain.

Many, many,many thanks for making me stop and look what i am doing for my kids. I was motivated by this challenge and i am glad to say I HAVE SPENT TIME WITH ELLIE.
I took Ellie and her friend to the swimming baths. They just had a ball, exercising without realising. I did that = }
so although its just one activity i am pleased to log

I have started a new routine at my house...and the kids (and our dog & sometimes dad) absolutely love it...we have started walking around the block after dinner. But we don't just walk we play a game while doing it (it's a great way to tried them out after dinner), it's like Simon says except it's a lot faster pace. We start out walking and then I say Mama say's: skip, and then my oldest gets to pick next and he usually say spin around in circles (the dog doesn't quite care for that one) and then the next child say hop or run. We make sure everyone who's walking with us gets a turn to say "mama say's" (well except for the dog cause she'd probably say stop and rest). I have found it give me the time and interaction with my kids that I miss so much being a working mother. I have also notice that I have more energy lately and a more positive attitude during my work day. Hope this is helpful.

Yesterday we worked out together for 15 min. It was so cute. I was using my Wii Fit doing steps and my little one decided she needed to too. She went and got a book and put it on the floor beside me and did steps too. Unfortunately, I didn't get any time with my son. By the time I got home from work we had enough time for dinner and homework before bed.
Total for the week 1 hour.

My son is 9 and my daughter is 11. We have two dogs. Today we went to the tennis courts, let the dogs run and kids rode bikes for at least 20 minutes. I walked laps! We had a great time!

I'm so in for this one, I always have a kid in tow when I work out!

9/1- 60 min. Zumba class with my daughter!
9/2- 40 min. on the bike and treadmill w/ my girl!
9/3- 60 min. Zumba with my girl again!
9/4- 40 min. treadmill/bike with my daughter.
9/5- 50 min. racquetball with daughter (so fun!)

Tuesday - 01/09 - 1 hr walking around a store with my daughter looking for and trying on school clothes.

Wednesday - 02/09 - 30 minutes walking around, (up and down steps) of the elementary school looking for each of my children's old teachers, principle and old classrooms. Just for the fun of it.

Thursday - 03/09 - 30 minutes trial walk to bus stop with three dogs and my middle child. (New puppy and new split leash set up for older two. So I can walk all three by myself)

Friday - 04/09 - 5 1/2 hr bike ride to town and back.

Saturday - 05/09 - 0

Sunday - 06/09 - 2 hours walking through the woods putting up tree stands. Yes I took all three kids and the puppy!

Monday - 07/09 - 30 minutes walking to parade (plus kids ran back and forth getting candy for 45 minutes)


TOTAL: 10 hours for me (another 45 minutes for kids at parade)

This is a marvelous challenge, I am so excited to get started. I know, and have for a while, that I need to be more active with my kids, that is one of the reasons I wanted to lose weight to begin with!

you can list everything you did for the day. You just need one total for the day though. That way you can share your activities with everyone and keep a running total on the minutes like we did with the fitness minutes. Hope that makes sense.

Okay so the September Challenge is fitness minutes that include your children. This can be walking to school, riding bikes together, playing freeze dance, etc. Let's get the kids involved. Get creative! It would be an advantage to us all to learn how to add activity to our life in different ways.
This week will run Tuesday 9/1 to Monday 9/7.
