Okay, all - send good vibes my way. My agent submitted my option book to my publisher.

I'm not sure which way I want the vibes to go. One the one hand, I'd love to sell another book. On the other, I really don't want to write the series anymore. So send it out to the universe that whatever happens will be the right thing. :)

I would like to have at least 4 of my short stories, and 1 novella published by my 65th birthday. I'm 63.

My writing goal is to be able to support my family with my writing beginning no later than 2025. The dream is for my husband and I to retire when our youngest graduates from college. I have until then to pay off all of our debts and build a writing carrer that will pay for us to live off of and travel.

My goal is to once again be self supportive in my writing.

Awhile back I had my own online newspaper but closed shop in 2008 due to some major life changes and issues. I miss the flexibility and yes even the stress! I still freelance write but I have not found anything that is both steady and is paying well enough ... YET!

Goals:
Publish at least one novel before I die.
Publish a book collection of poetry.
Compete in various writing contests.
Write a stage play. ( I love monologues.)
Get my comic book idea published. ( I already love the characters and they seem so real to me. I dreamed about them once.)

I didn't realize I had so many goals floating around. Guess I shall write all of this down and post it next to my motivation board! Wishing everyone a wonderful experience while reaching all their goals!

My ultimate writing goal: To be able to make a living writing. I don't even really care what kind of writing it is. I suppose, however, if I can't write, I'll settle for being surrounded by books (hence my MLIS schooling).
My head is full of stories, and while I normally write fantasy, recently I've been writing science fiction. I've also written some contemporary fiction. My short term goal is to have one published (paid) short story by the end of the year. I've written for school magazines, but those don't pay.

I write technical stuff all day and have for years but my head is full of all these stories. Hearing that others are actually out there writing down those stories in their heads gives me the push to at least write a little every day. Thanks, Sparklers!

I would have to say that my ultimate goals in writing are 1. to be able to reach someone....help someone else out who has gone through similar situations as I have, 2. be able to work from home doing something I love. I have been sick for the last 6 months and haven't been able to go back to work. I would love to just get my name out there and start doing something I can really appreciate.

Thanks Franceslucas. I'll have to check it out.

AbbySharpe, no worries - I'm not all about perfection. My issue is I know I have the intelligence to write well, so I don't want to write something really crappy on the first go-round and have to totally rewrite it later. I prefer to write a lot all at once so it has adequate flow and consistent feeling. Then later I can go back and correct a few rough areas and any grammar or spelling errors. Usually by the 3rd of 4th read it's as good as I'll get it. But if I can't follow it after the first write it isn't going to be easily corrected. Though I don't have to worry about perfecting one chapter before moving on, as I prefer to not write in chapters. It allows me to flow much easier. Then on a future read I can find natural breaking points to create chapters. To me, it feels more organic and less scripted. One annoyance of mine is when a writer ends a chapter then continues into the new one exactly where they left off. It's like taking a long breath and pausing to adjust your clothes in the middle of a sentence.

Just be careful, 1stState, that you don't fall into the "it has to be perfect" trap. It's important to move on, because if you work on a chapter until it's perfect, you'll never get to the next one.

though you can go back and make sure it's perfect before submitting to agents or editors. :)

That is great! Little steps on a regular basis will help get you where you need to go. I was writing off and on about my story and it is still evolving. It took 1.5 years to get my first book out. Working on number 2 now! Slow and steady wins the race! You can do it!

I've been writing for years, though rarely in a way that's for public consumption. I do have a story I've spent years on I'm thinking about trying to finish (I'm at 42,000 words and I'd like to double that at least), but it will need some changes to turn it from a extremely personal project to a public project. I have several good ideas I'd like to add.

I just got back the writing bug in the last 2 weeks or so. Because of my health and all the time I have to dedicate to doctors, paperwork, and just taking care of myself I won't have a decent amount of time with adequate brain power to spend on writing, so I will be taking my time on it. I'm not on a deadline, so I don't want to rush it.

I am starting to check out some books from the library about writing and getting published (just because I'm not going to expect it doesn't mean I won't ever try to get a story/novel published). I'm also hoping to go to an event in August where a published author will speak to people who want to know what it's like. I've been reading more and paying attention to what I like and dislike about the story and the writing style. Plus I'm paying attention to things I see/watch/read/dream to try to find ideas I can use.

Of course, nothing will go anywhere if I can't get my thoughts and ideas typed out, but I'd like to get back to some groundwork before I dive too far in. I don't like to rewrite something dozens of time (even in school I was rarely asked to do more than 1 draft) so I'd like to have it close to my standards right off the bat.

My dream would be to have a story that touched people's lives and made them feel things they hadn't before. I want them to look at others differently - better - after reading it.

My goal is to write something meaningful to me and share it with others to see if it affects them as much as it affects me. If it goes beyond that, it would be awesome and unexpected.

I am so glad to see this topic! I have lots of goals and dreams! Specifically I want to finish my journal devotionals starting with Genesis. Have one completed and working my way through the Bible. I have others as well. Looking to finish at least 100 books that are self help and related to God's word and making a difference! Looking for God to help me with this bold goal! Thanks for asking! :)

I would love to have my poetry published. Some of it has been, but I would love to win a contest. It's also a dream of mine to turn some of my poems into songs on the guitar and record an album. I also write childrens stories and it would be neat to have them published too. I don't know if any of these things will ever happen for sure, but it sure doesn't hurt to dream! emoticon

Quote from Garihood on 1/7/11: "My ultimate goal is to write children's books that make at least one child feel the way I did when I was young and reading for the sheer joy of it. I think the ultimate compliment I could receive is to have one child come up to me and say that my book was their favorite."

Beautifully said, Garihood. That is my dream, too!

I love seeing all the dreams and goals about being a published author. I'm no different. I would LOVE to see my name on the bookstore shelf and watch it rise on the NYT best seller list. This year I'm aiming to sell a book, and if that doesn't happen, have another one finished and polished and ready for submission.

Good luck, everyone!

I write because I have something, many somethings, to say. I want to challenge and encourage and cause change in people through my writing and through speaking to audiences. I don't dream of fame...that is not enough of a tangible goal for me. The chance of ending up on the NY Times Best Seller List is slim, and not really the measure of success I am looking for.

I have to write, and have always had that urgency, a desire and drive to express everything through writing.

While I would love to be as big as JK Rowling and have my characters adored by billions, I just want to be a published, best selling author who is able to make a living strictly from my writing career. I long for the day that something like that happens. Of course, I really need to put much more work on a daily basis into my writing and find a nice happy medium where I can get exercise in and write while not ignoring everyone in my life. How do people do it?

I'd love my stories to be the next big thing. I've always dreamt of being the next Tolkien, or to be more up-to-date, the next J.K. Rowling. :laughs: I'd like to see my novella on the Big Screen, to have fans and go to signings or readings of my books. I'd also like to publish a chap-book or two, and I even have some children's books in mind.

Another thing I'd love to do is write my autobiography...I know I haven't really lived tong enough yet, but so much has happened in my life and it'd be nice to be a modern Louisa May Alcott and write out my life with my parents and siblings in a "Little Women"esque series.

I've posted my writing on a few online sites (I've even posted on here, in my blogs), and I even had a secretary at one point who was encouraging me to write every day...I just need to get my stories out there. I should probably send my novella to a publisher once it's finished, but I'm afraid of rejection (I know, I know. We're all rejected at some point, or at many points) and I'm afraid of the hassle...do I need an agent, do I have the money to pay a publisher, what if I publish and no-one likes my story?? I don't want to change my style to suit others, only to be lost behind a façade.

I find television very educational. The minute somebody turns it on, I go to the library and read a good book.

My ultimate writing goal is to have a series of novels I am co-authoring, be published and adored. I'd also like to see my solo work published and doing well. Not for money or fame, just to see my name on a dust jacket. It's all I've ever wanted.

My ultimate goal is to write something that others will read, preferably a novel. I want to write something that I am proud to show to others, and that others will appreciate. In order to do this I need to work on actually completing novels that I begin, and things like that.

But yeah.

I want to be read. Or, well, my novel.

I'd like to have my first children's book published within the next six months. That will make my 84 year old mom proud. It's time to just finish the manuscript and do it!

"Ultimate" is a pretty big word, isn't it? My immediate dreams and goals are definitely different than my "ultimate" dreams and goals. Some day, when enough people have died I'd like to publish a book that would be part autobiography and part fiction. I think my younger years would be an interesting story but I don't want to get sued or hurt people's feelings. I've got some skeletons that need to stay in the closet too. So if I could find a way to put it all together and get it published without hurting anyone then that would be the ultimate I think, especially if people read it.

I also have some poetry, and especially one poem, that I think would make a great song if I could find a recording artist (and musicians) to do it. It needs to be done by someone sexier and more famous than me and I don't know anything about how to write music. I just have the words on paper and the sound in my head. I would love to get that recorded and have it be a hit some day. THAT would be the ultimate for me musically. :-)

My uncle was a Navy medic in Vietnam. I have all the letters he wrote his, then, wife from the field. Both of them have granted me permission to use those letters as I see fit in writing a book.

My first goal is to finish writing my poetry, essays, etc. about mental health issues and devise a way to publish them as a book. Then, a portion of the sales from the book will go to a mental health organization. This is my first writing goal.

I write to make people happy. When someone tells me that they enjoyed reading what I write, it is the best feeling in the world. I knew at the age of 5 that I wanted to be a writer some day, and it took all these years to make it really happen (I'm 28).

I would love to be able to be a full-time writer and see my name on all the best seller lists, but even if that never happens, I will still write, because as long as it makes 1 person happy, I've lived my dreams.

I want my writing to be enjoyed -and I want to enjoy the writing part! To that end I am trying to write features on travel websites - hoping that this will enable me to visit more places, get more inspired, write more, visit more ... you get the picture!
I've just got my first job doing this and am now planning my first proper, paying article. (When I say paying I mean this in a very, VERY, small way. But it's a start. emoticon
