Yes, Abby

I am doing two challenges: one for students because I have a poetry blog for children. The other is the Poem a Day Challenge with Writer's Digest.

I can't say that I've done a poem each day for Writer's Digest, but I have kept up with the prompts, sometimes written two in a day, so I can post on each prompt.

Thank you MJB1983! Between having to get my better half to work in the morning, cleaning and then getting ready for work, I MAKE myself sit in the morning and write. It may just be in a journal but I love to write and by making a goal of it has helped me a lot. I never use to think I had the me, but I have managed every morning thus far. Soon it won't just be a journal entry. I love poetry and am hoping soon I will get at least one new a day but with poetry the mood has to hit :-) . I am positive you will keep going with this as well. Good luck. emoticon

Good for you, GI68801

I did really well this week, but it was spring break so I had the time. We'll see how it goes this week.

First day down. Wrote in a journal for 35 mins. Probably could've done more but if I don't stop myself I'll write forever :-)

I would like my goal to be at least 30 mins of writing a day. I love to write butalways find a reason not to. I am hoping with this challenge that will change.

I was looking over the time I have each week. I am going to try out a weekly goal instead of a daily goal. I like the idea of having a day off if I need it, MYREALANA but then I need to use my time well over the course of a week.

I have a different goal structure. I count words instead of time, and I give myself one day off per week, for relaxing or emergencies.

I try for 1250 new words written or 2500 words edited per day, six days per week. I got pretty good at keeping that up, but since my husband has been gone, I haven't written much of anything. I'll be getting back into the swing of things when we're back from India in two weeks.

This last week I didn't get much done on my work in progress. Full time teaching and family obligations made for a busy week. I want to set aside time for this each day. This week will be easy: I am on spring vacation. When I return to school I need to figure out a schedule where I can do this every day after school.

I've finally figured out that I'm a morning person. I know, ack! But my gears really get going then so I'm going to get up early so I can get in an hour before I have to get ready for work and then if things are really percolating I can always get back to it when I get home, but this way I know I'll get at least an hour in every day. emoticon

I'd really like to do this challenge... with modifications. Not sure if it will be EVERY day, so I will say most days, so minimum of 4 days per week. I also run a blog, and on days that I write posts, I'm so drained, that I don't always get novel work in. But I'm working on it.

Count me in, Trying to blog daily and write whatever wants to come up. I finally got a new computer, and I am so thrilled. Don't like the keyboard at all though. Love to write short stories, and self-discovery as it relates to reclaiming my body, myself. Would love to make new writing friends. I am not published, but I have written my whole life.

I'm new to writing and I just finished my first creative writing class. I'm excited to join a group of writer's on spark people! I think for my first goal I'll have to keep it to a 15 minutes a day goal. I've been spending more time collecting ideas for stories in my "incubator" journal. So far, that seems to keep me pretty occupied. I would like to focus on making writing a daily habit while also making time to work at my full-time job and lose weight. No pressure right? emoticon

Same here, but sometimes, even if I've only slept a couple hours, my story and characters take over and demand that I write! It's no use trying to go back to sleep when that happens, so I let the story flow. The only time I have trouble writing is when I have made a mistake, and I have to go back and find it and correct it, or the characters won't allow me to go further. Sounds strange, I know, but the characters are always right, and once I have made the correction, the story flows again.

I write when I can find some quiet time, because I need to concentrate. However, we live on our farm, so interruptions are the norm. I sometimes wake at 2am and write until dawn, always surprised that the hours pass so quickly. And it's easier to keep scenes, characters, and simultaneous plots straight when I have hours to work on them. But I have been trying to write every day, even if it's only half an hour.

Hermaion, 600 words is FANTASTIC! I didn't start writing until I was 34, so with starting in your teens, you're already ahead. Don't think about it. Just Write.

I'm in. A half-hour a day is very, very reasonable. I very badly want to finish my novel, of which I have two chapters, but every time I start, I feel overwhelmed because I haven't written since my early teens. So far today, I've written 600 words! Now, I will make sure I keep track of how long, as well!

I'm definitely in! I'm participating in two writing challenges right now (Script Frenzy and National Novel Writing Year), and I've fallen a bit behind in both. I'm 20 pages behind in my screenplay and 14,000 words behind my year goal of 1 million words, so I definitely have to write at least half an hour a day.

My work is winding down for the season, so I'm about to have a lot more free time on my hands. I'm therefore going to pledge at least an hour of writing a day. Hopefully I can focus on writing for at least that long, and that will help me get back on track. :)

I'm in! I used to write SO MUCH (16 hour days were not uncommon!) but now I'm out of practice and overwhelmed by my old goals. I love the idea of starting small and building back up. It sounds like just what I need. Sooo...this week my goal is 30 minutes a day of actual writing. (Rather than writing, web-surfing, writing, cleaning, writing, reading, web-surfing again, etc...) Here goes! :)

Good challenge for me as I continually think about writing but haven't written anything more than a list or email in a few weeks. Glad to have a timed rather than page related challenge. Much more my style.

Great! I'm committing to one hour of writing per day, five days a week through the end of March. At that point, I'll reevaluate.

Honestly, I think that I'm pretty close to that now... but I need to keep better track before I set some new goals. I also think that "meeting" my goal will help me to feel like I'm accomplishing more, instead of just "binge" writing to catch up.

I would like to commit to 30 minutes a day. I am so glad I found this group. I make goals, but I need help committing to them. I am not consistent like I would like to be, but I always feel at peace when I'm writing. I was wondering, though, if researching for your topic counts as writing time.

I had searched teams wanting something like that, too. I would love a place where we get an assignment or two, and honest critiquing of our work.

Success with day 1. How I love to write, no matter what it takes out of me, no matter what revelations it brings. Whether it is research, explaining or reasoning, poetry, blogging or journaling, there is nothing better than writing.

Today I start with no excuses. It is of the same importance as health. If I want to be healthy, that is a priority. If I want to write well, that too is a priority.

I will write one hour or more each day, then I will edit and rewrite. An hour of bad writing does not meet this goal.

I've been trying for years to write regularly. I would get so much done if I were to just write for a half hour each day. But usually I manage it for a few days at the most and then life or laziness get in the way again.

But I'm trying again. Starting today.

All of the challenges are too easy unless I scratch off work as counting. SO, since only my friends here can see the posts... I will make the one our goal only blogs I personally write that are not currently making me money, or articles I write for the Yahoo Contributor/Associated Content site - because I seriously need to publish more there.

Here are the places I will post to (and the Spark Blog)...

I find that once I get started, I usually want to write longer than that. I wrote for four hours today before I was ready and willing to quit.

I've written for over an hours (generally more like 2 to 3 hours) everyday this week and the revision of my book is going great! I found an easy way to get me started writing...I can't get on the internet until I do. If I get on the internet first I can waste half the day there.

emoticon of the new goal/plan

I wrote 2.5 hours this morning and completely rewrote chapter one. I also had to type it all into the computer because I wrote this book in 1993 and all I have of the original is a printed copy.

After that, I wrote a letter of support for a friend who is trying to get custody of her grandson so it has been a very productive day!

I can easily write for a couple of hours straight once I get started. I just never seem to get started. I much prefer to write on the computer...in fact that is the ONLY way I will write. Not only do I type faster than I can write but I can edit on the computer. My plan is that I get on the computer in the morning and can't get online until I have at least a half hour of writing done. That should work just fine. There is nothing to be distracted by in Word as long as I don't log in to the internet.

I have joined the write for an hour a day challenge.
Once I start writing I can easily continue, but it is hard to sit down and actually write. I find that I do my best when I write in my paper journal by hand. The computer is too distracting to me.

Maybe we can encourage each other. I write non-fiction and have one book that I wrote years ago that I'm going to get out and edit and another one that I started on but didn't get very far with. I just need to find a way to manage my time better.

I haven't been working on my writing projects at all but have decided to make it a new year's resolution to do so, five days a week.

Hi all. I'm new here, but very much excited to be a part of your group. I'll commit to writing one 1/2 hour a day. In the beginning, I think I'll just focus on writing anything at all including blogs and journals. I love to write, but fear really keeps me from working on my projects. Here's to kicking those fears to the curve.

I too, joined the write 1 hour a day and I don't always do so well. But this challenge and the others is forcing me to take myself more seriously. I tend to take care of everyone else. I have entered more contests and worked more consistently on my novel since I joined this group so I am hoping I can finally get my writing career off the ground.

While this may be a little more realistic for me, I have joined the goal to write an hour a day. I didn't make it yesterday and I haven't done it so far today, unless you count blogging and journal writing. But I'm hoping this'll help keep me motivated to work on editing the novel I just wrote for NaNoWriMo.

OK. I think this is the right challenge for me to join. I spend a couple hours each day online writing posts in a couple groups that I belong to -- but I DON'T spend time working on my writing projects to further my professional goals. I need to publish educational and/or research articles to further my career.

I find that I write a little, then go for 2 or 3 weeks without picking the project up again. Then when I return to it a couple of weeks later, I have to spend "getting back into it" as I have gotten off-track with my train of thought etc. I have one project I have semi-worked on for 4 years this way. I need to develop the habit of at least "touching base" with my professional writing projects regularly to keep me moving forward.

So ... My starting goal will be ... too work on my professional writing projects for at least 30 minutes every day that I go to my office. (That would be Monday through Friday on a normal workweek.) I need to associate my office with writing.

though I'm not retired, I don't work and have equal amounts of free time. I don't always make it, either, and it gets frustrating. That's part of the problem in and of itself, I think. Because you become focused on the 'not doing', and that makes it harder to do.

I find it helps (sometimes, at least), to write with someone. Have someone there to "crack the whip", so to speak. A Word Challenge can help you get into the frame of mind to write. Try it out, if you have a chat program.

I can do this!

Fear holds us and binds us and keep us from growing. It kills a small piece of us each day. It holds us to what we know and keeps us from what's possible, and it is our worst enemy. Fear doesn't announce itself; it's disguised, and it's subtle. It's choosing the safe course; most of us feel we have 'rational' reasons to avoid taking risks. The brave man is not the one without fear but the one who does what he must despite being afraid. To succeed, you must be willing to risk total failure; you

I just looked at the team goals of writing at least an hour a day or writing at least 2 hours a day and decided that I'm not ready for that. But maybe I could do a half hour a day. If we could include writing emails, I might make an hour a day. I need to spend less time on the internet and more time in my word processing program. So, I'm going to try this challenge.

Have you ever tried doing a Word Challenge? Get together with a few other writers in chat (Gchat, for example), state your goal for how many words you want to have done in an hour's worth of time. Then close all other programs besides the chat and your document. Write for that hour. Then after the hour is up, disclose the amount of words written, and possibly share a little excerpt of what you did.

It sometimes helps you to focus. At least, it does me. I find it works better in smaller groups though.

I never check my pages, so timed'd be the better choice for me. If I can manage a minimum of an hour a day, that'd be cool. On bad days, that's a stretch. On good days, I can at times write for several hours straight. I wish I could say I had a lot of those good days. So for now, an hour a day it'll be

I'm going to start with something realistic. 15 minutes a day, probably on my Sparkpeople blog. I'm hoping this will get me started and minimize the anxiety I usually feel when I sit down to write.

I'm recommitting. I'm going to try for a 1/2 minimum to start. Then I'll try to work up to higher times.

Between family stuff, the house, working-out, outside commitments, church, and daily necessities like eating and grooming, I just don't have as much time as I'd like.

I learned the hard way that just saying I'll write an hour a day wasn't enough. I'd start writing new stuff when I hadn't finished others.

Now my daily challenge is to work an hour on whatever I've deemed the "Current WIP". Extra time can be spent on other stuff to keep The Muse happy.

Post YOUR particular goal, whether it be a half hour a day of writing, an hour a day of writing, two hours a day of writing, etc. Then... Stick to It!! Keep coming back, post your progress, and watch those pages mount.
