I'm vegan for a whole bunch of reasons, environment being one of the main ones. Funny thing is that once I went vegan for all of my "higher" reasons, I ended up getting rid of unexplained joint pain that had been holding me back for 12 years.... it turns out that I was allergic to milk all along, and never knew.
Oddly.... that is the fall back that I use to defend my choice: "I'm allergic" - it seems to be the only one that people will respect. If I start discussing my personal ethics, people get irritated that I don't want to join them for ice cream because of my "pesky" morals. I need to toughen up and be proud of what I believe!
