Solar panels have come down in price so much lately, that they are very cost effective now. In many places, they compete with grid power. I'm in Seattle, and was able to generate enough solar on my roof to offset my electricity usage. And with the production credits and net metering, as well as the federal tax credits, I was able to make it work. It's very freeing to know that I am not directly adding to the carbon problem....

I had a solar hot water heater in their 70's. Never had a garage door opener until I got batteries and a solar panel to charge them in the nineties. So I am a believer and have been a user. At this point covering windows and uncovering to let in the sun shine is all that is working
Has anybody used the solar roofing shingles? Has anyone found a retail outlet for the newer solar sheets--sort of like sheet metal but with great solar collection and still works if hail pierces places in it. I saw this last one, with the developer, on a PBS or Internet blip.
What great information and a fantastic site. Thank you.
