There is a lot of great information and support. There is a premium membership that cost money, but the meal plans are amazing! Well worth the cost!

I've bought the PCOS workbook from the PCOS Nutrition website. I've read most of it. And I plan on rereading it a little more slowly to help it all sink in. I did look into their counseling. And right now I can't afford it, but may think about it later.

I know this is a few years behind the game here, but I was just diagnosed with PCOS last year. I started with the Insulite System back in February. Before starting it I was having cysts rupture anywhere from once a month to every six days for about a year. Since starting with the Insulite supplements, I have not had a single rupture. That's almost 4 months! I'm finally seeing my energy level back up and since school just got out and I've been able to focus on exercise, I'm down 5 pounds in the past 10 days. Before all this cyst stuff started I was running 5K four days a week for 6 straight months and I only lost 12 pounds total.

So, I'm pretty convinced that it's working for ME. Hopefully I'll see ovulation signs return in the next few months with the continued weight loss.

The joy of the Lord is my strenth. ~ Nehemiah 8:10

Hey All,

Sorry I couldn't get this to you sooner. Then end of last week was super busy and then Monday morning I was diganosed with strep and spent the next two days on the couch, which hurt my back... So I am finally on the mend!

Like I posted earlier the only diet/meal plan I have found is from Children's Hospital in Boston. I printed it out an had my physician look it over. She said if I followed it as is and stuck with it I would should lose 4-8 per month. Week one I stuck mostly to it and I lost 6 pounds. This week with being sick and out of commission I gained a pound back because I ate nothing according to the menu. Here is the link:

nu.html

They even give you recipies on the site so it isn't the same food every 3 days. emoticon

I found this website super-helpful:

http://www.cemcor.ubc.ca/

It's a Canadian research and education program: Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research headed by a professor from the University of British Colombia. There are some great articles about PCOS treatment (they prefer to call it Anovulatory Androgen Excess) including cyclic progesterone therapy.

You're welcome.

They do have a lot of really good information ... their free newsletter is worth subscribing to.

A lot of the supplements they sell are very good things for women with PCOS to take ... they are just very expensive through this site, or not the best way to take them. d-pinitol for instance is much less effective than d-chiro inositol, as you need to take 3 x as much d-pinitol than DCI and the pinitol is more expensive.

I have put a lot of information together over the last couple of years into my own website ... it's pcosinfo.wordpress.com

If there's something in particular you are interested in, let me know, I'm more than happy to research and write about it.

That site isn't bad, but beware of the products they sell - they are expensive, not particularly good formulations and they don't honour their refund policy (in my experience). They do have a lot of good information on the site, though it is often tailored towards what they are selling, so may not be unbiased.

Hi everyone, I am glad that this thread is still going and is helpful :) I am also recommending a Podcast that is really helping me with the emotional side of weightloss but the biproduct is that it radiates into other aspects of your life.

The name of the FREE podcast is Inside Out Weight Loss. If you do a search on your itunes you can downnload all of Renee Stephens 96 podcasts. They are excellent. There's even a group on here.

Have a wonderful day everyone

I was on SoulCysters and had to stop going to that site. I really did not like how clique-y it is and unless I was part of the crowd, then my opinion or questions were not acknowledged. And yes, Kat is a stay-away!

I came across some info on Fucoxanthin today looking for something else, I thought someone might be interested:
J Agric Food Chem. 2007 Sep 19;55(19):7701-6. Epub 2007 Aug 23. Dietary combination of fucoxanthin and fish oil attenuates the weight gain of white adipose tissue and decreases blood glucose in obese/diabetic KK-Ay mice.Maeda H, et al.Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University, Japan.

Fucoxanthin is a marine carotenoid found in edible brown seaweeds. We previously reported that dietary fucoxanthin attenuates the weight gain of white adipose tissue (WAT) of diabetic/obese KK- A(y) mice. In this study, to evaluate the antiobesity and antidiabetic effects of fucoxanthin and fish oil, we investigated the effect on the WAT weight, blood glucose, and insulin levels of KK- A(y) mice. Furthermore, the expression level of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and adipokine mRNA in WAT were measured. After 4 weeks of feeding, 0.2% fucoxanthin in the diet markedly attenuated the gain of WAT weight in KK- A(y) mice with increasing UCP1 expression compared with the control mice. The WAT weight of the mice fed 0.1% fucoxanthin and 6.9% fish oil was also significantly lower than that of the mice fed fucoxanthin alone. In addition, 0.2% fucoxanthin markedly decreased the blood glucose and plasma insulin concentrations in KK- A(y) mice. The mice fed with the combination diet of 0.1% fucoxanthin and fish oil also showed improvements similar to that of 0.2% fucoxanthin. Leptin and tumor necrosis factor (TNFalpha) mRNA expression in WAT were significantly down-regulated by 0.2% fucoxanthin. These results suggest that dietary fucoxanthin decreases the blood glucose and plasma insulin concentration of KK- A(y) along with down-regulating TNFalpha mRNA. In addition, the combination of fucoxanthin and fish oil is more effective for attenuating the weight gain of WAT than feeding with fucoxanthin alone.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun. 2005 Jul 1;332(2):392-7. Fucoxanthin from edible seaweed, Undaria pinnatifida, shows antiobesity effect through UCP1 expression in white adipose tissues.Maeda H, Hosokawa M, et al. Laboratory of Biofunctional Material Chemistry, Division of Marine Bioscience, Hokkaido University, Japan.

Mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) is usually expressed only in brown adipose tissue (BAT) and a key molecule for metabolic thermogenesis to avoid an excess of fat accumulation. However, there is little BAT in adult humans. Therefore, UCP1 expression in tissues other than BAT is expected to reduce abdominal fat. Here, we show reduction of abdominal white adipose tissue (WAT) weights in rats and mice by feeding lipids from edible seaweed, Undaria pinnatifida. Clear signals of UCP1 protein and mRNA were detected in WAT of mice fed the Undaria lipids, although there is little expression of UCP1 in WAT of mice fed control diet. The Undaria lipids mainly consisted of glycolipids and seaweed carotenoid, fucoxanthin. In the fucoxanthin-fed mice, WAT weight significantly decreased and UCP1 was clearly expressed in the WAT, while there was no difference in WAT weight and little expression of UCP1 in the glycolipids-fed mice. This result indicates that fucoxanthin upregulates the expression of UCP1 in WAT, which may contribute to reducing WAT weight.

I haven't read through the site yet, but if Fuco-Oil is related to fucoxanthin, then there is quite a bit of science behind it.

Fucoxanthin shows anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, and anti-obesity activities in animal studies.

Fucoxanthin reduces body weight and body fat weight in in vivo mice study. Its prominent anti-obesity acivity was achieved by not only decreasing fatty acid synthesis, triglycerides and total cholesterol levels, and the size of white adipocytes (the storage type of fat cell) but also by increasing β-oxidation and CPT activities in adipose tissue, the fecal weight, fecal triglycerides and fecal cholesterol levels.

Pilot human clinical trials have shown a significant decrease in body weight, especially fat weight.

As I said, I haven't read the website yet and don't know if the two are related...

Hmmm.... I like his treatment protocol for Hypoglycemia, and his suggestions for Insulin Resistance. I'm not certain about some of his recommended supplements, though - especially the Metabolic Modulator and the FucoThin for weight loss. They seem a little like "snake oil" to me.

The PCOS protocol looks good, though. From the Hypoglycemia protocol, you could even add the PGX Fiber supplement. I just spoke to one of my teachers (a naturopathic doctor) for some general advice, and he mentioned that one as a good supplement as fiber binds with carbohydrates and slows down their digestion and release into the blood stream.

I think the author of this website has some good ideas - he seems to go off into some theories, though, that slide off into pseudo-science and make connections that may not really be there, so take what he says with a grain of salt and double-check it with some other good sites.

I'm glad it's working so well for you!!!

Check this site out ladies! I am currently working with a practioner who has me on a progesterone/adrenal and supplement therapy. I feel fabulous! I have been cycling the progesterone cream for a month now, have not go my period yet but feel so much better. I would also highly recommend you check the section about Iodine deficiency and thyroid - seriously I have to tell you I feel like a different woman!

I love soulcysters.net too! It has a great message board dedicated to recommending doctors and nutritionists! It was extremely helpful to me because I am newly diagnosed with PCOS. Also, for any girls in Jacksonville there is a new PCOS center, where it only sees and treats girls with PCOS. emoticon

It's also pretty friendly, no matter what your age, religion, sexual preference, etc. There's even a board for partners/family members, too!

I don't know if there are any Jews here but the A TIME website has a great forum and was very helpful. It helps Jews (mainly Orthodox but I don't think that's a requirement just their focus) with infertility issues.

I found http://www.childlessnotbychoice.com/phpBB2

very helpful when dealing with infertility. It is not specific to PCOS but has several members who have PCOS and will provide support.

Thanks for the information. I checked out the soulcysters web site and they do have some good information. On the site was an advertising link for the Insulite System. This sounds too good to be true, plus is costs A LOT. Has anyone tried this or know anyone who has tried this system? Does it work? It might be worth the cost if it actually does what is says it does.

Thought I would start this topic off as a way for others suffering with this problem to have an area to post sites they have found helpful.
