Hi, I am a chemist and thought I could help clear up some misinformation about this. N-acetyl-L-cysteine is a modified form of the natural amino acid, L-cysteine (which we all have naturally occurring in our bodies). The "N" is just part of the chemical naming system. As for how/where it is manufactured, it is really difficult to say unless you do some investigation on the source of the supplement brand you buy (and even then it is difficult to pin down exactly). Although you may not care about whether it comes from duck feathers or horse tails (for instance), one might care about the quality/source of the manufacturing as we should remember it is a chemical and chemical methods were used to produce the material. That is fact.
However, being experienced in the chemical industry I can tell you that the cheapest manufacturing comes from either China or India. Again fact from direct experience.
Whether or not this supplement is either a) safe or b) effective is up to personal judgement. Anyways, hope this info is useful & good luck on your PCOS journey.

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine is comprised of man-made ingredients. If it doesn't have the "N" in front of it, that could be true. But what I am talking about is N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine.
It contains NONE of the following: milk, egg, fish, peanuts, shellfish, soybeans, tree nuts, wheat, yeast, gluten, corn, or rice. It also contains NO sugar, artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors, or preservatives.
It was manufactured in FORT LAUDERDALE, FL.
Take it or don't take it - its everyone's choice. Find the vetarian / vegan versions if you like. The one I am taking does not state it is vegan or vegetarian -- but I am getting results. And frankly speaking.....a few duck feathers doesn't bother me a bit if it improves my horrible health because I have been dealing with this for over 10+ years and this is the first real improvement I have EVER had.
I was just passing along some useful info for you guys :) I have SEVERE PCOS - non responsive to fertility treatments and non-responsive to Metformin.
To me - the fact that I am noticing ANY results with a supplement is FLIPPIN AMAZING!!! LOL.
Good luck to everyone :)

I have also heard of good things when it comes to Acetyle L Cysteine but I don't want to take it.
This chemical is actually derived from the feathers of ducks. If your not a vegetarian or vegan, this probably doesn't bother you (I personally don't agree this, as I believe myself to be a vegetarian). What bothers me though, is the fact that these duck feathers are coming from China. We all know that there are some crazy bad chemical and not so great regulations in China, so I personally would be hesitant to try the cheaper supplements.
But, there is hope! Some of the more expensive supplements are actually a plant based coming from bacteria. Just look for the vegan, or kosher, or even Muslim seal of approval.
I hope this gives you a little more insight into the lovely world of supplements. I personally am always like to know what I am putting into my body and where it came from on stuff like this. So if your like me, this is information you need to know.

I posted previously somewhere in this group that I was going to start taking N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (A nutritional supplement) that has recently been reported to help lower insulin levels in women with PCOS - sometimes even reversing many symptoms. I was of course VERY cynical but decided to start taking it about 2 weeks ago. I read that after 6 weeks, many women had good results. So....I said I would write with my results as they occured - if I got any results at all.
Well, I am happy to reportI am actually having some benefits already and I felt I better pass this information along.
First off......I am taking 600mg 3x a day approximately 20 minutes before Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. (it was suggested to take on an empty stomach). Well, here are my results so far:
My facial hair is growing in about a day slower!!!!!!!!! I was NOT particularly responsive to Clomid - I ovulated but did not get pregnant after several cycles on high dosage. I have been noticing the past 2 days I have been getting OVULATION pain in my left ovary!!!!!!! I can't even believe it. Does it mean I'll ovulate completely - who knows. But.....I'd say....after 2 weeks - these are some promising results.
ALso.....my mood has been more balanced (my husband notified me of this). I haven't had as many moment of random rage - actually, almost none. BUT --- I did comletely get PMS type anger yesterday.
Ladies....this is just a nutritional supplement. It's CHEAP (I paid $10 per bottle of 60...600mg capsules on Newegg.com). 2 weeks and I am getting SOME improvement. Its working as well as the Metformin -- only I dont find myself in the bathroom all the time with this.
I'll keep everyone posted if the changes stay or if I get even better or any worse. But I'm telling ya........TAKE THIS STUFF. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who knew.
I'm not finding a LOT of research on the net - but I did find some. Do your own research if ya like -- but to me trying it for myself was worth it. I really thought it would be a flop - like everything else. I'm glad something looks promising for ONCE!!!!! :)
Feel free to message me with questions or your own experiences with the N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine :)
