It's scary to hear everyone's horror stories! I was on it for a year and become really depressed and suicidal. It was awful. I requested a different BCP and got on ortho tri cyclen and it has been amazing! My PCOS symptoms have been taken care of. 2 doctors and my OBGYN told me that they would never prescribe YAZ for their patients. Everyone is different though so it just might work for others, but I'd rather just be safe than sorry.

Every body is different. I have massive allergies and react to things that most other people don't. I just have to be careful and report anything odd to my Dr. so it gets reported to the proper places. I presently have a Mirena IUD to control my symptoms. I have had no issues whatsoever with that, yet others I know have had a horrible time with it.

I've been taking Yasmin for almost 8 years without a problem. I switched to it as I couldn't tolerate other BCP. I guess it is like anything out there...may not affect everyone in the same way.

THIS!
I was on Yaz for 2 months and that is it. I had a bladder infection, then it turned into a massive kidney infection very quickly. (I don't get UTIs) After I finished the round of antibiotics, I started getting massive pain in my back, after going to the ER and getting heavenly drugs, I passed a kidney stone. Never had one before or since. A week after the next round of antibiotics, I woke up with massive pain under my ribs on my right side. I was again rushed to the ER, given even more amazing drugs and it turned out I had several gallstones. My liver enzyme count was high and so was my white blood cell count, so they checked me in.
After my gallbladder was removed, the surgeon told me that it was about ready to rupture and was full of hundreds of gallstones. I had even passed a few.

It has been over a year now and I am just barely returning to myself. It was horrible! Especially because I had never had any of these issues before Yaz or since.

If you can, I'd look for something else. It just isn't worth it.

My doc told me BC would help regulate my periods, but after research on Yasmin/Ocella I decided against it. Judging by some opinions of other women who took Yasmin with PCOS, I'm glad I decided to not take it!

OMG! Do not take this. I took this for about a year along with Yaz afterwards and it has ruined my life! I have gallbladder problems, PCOS, thyroid problems and much more. I can't believe this is recommended to anyone! Research on google Yasmin and side effects and you will get tons and sites about the lawsuits and what happens to you! I have even had mood changes and I still have these problems after being off for almost two years now!

That's an interesting theory! I'd have to do some research on that to figure out if it could be theoretically true, anyways.

I took Yasmin for about 5 months and I would not recommend it to everyone. It was awful! I had such horrible pains in my ovaries all the time. I'd have scans and tests done all the time because they hurt so bad. I also got severly depressed. I had never suffered from depression before. What made me stop was when I broke out with hives and they wouldn't go away. I'd go to urgent care and was given care there that temporarily would keep them down but then 12 hours would go by and I'd break out again. I did this for a week. The doctors couldn't figure out what I was having an allergic reaction to because they said if it was food it wouldn't have lasted that long. So I quit Yasmin and instantly the hives were gone and never experienced that pain in my ovaries since. That was 8 years ago! I also snapped out of my depression. I'm taking Loestrin now and I'm very satisfied with it. Although regarding the gallbladder diseases, I'm almost thinking all BCP or hormone related issues/diseases are linked to it because I just had my gallbladder removed last week and I'm only 25 years old. It runs very heavily in my family, but they are all females that get it, no males at all. And we all have PCOS and other hormone related diseases. My doctor told me that gallbladder disease is most commonly linked to females because of hormones so I'm almost thinking maybe PCOS suffers tend to have more gallbladder problems?

BCPs never worked for me. They would always kill my libido. I tried Yaz a long time ago but I don't think I was on it for more than a few months.

Ironically enough...not too long after my last post I had stomach pains that would not quit that ended up being my gall bladder as well. I had never had any symptoms and it was so infected that it had actually fused to my stomach/lower intestines. I'm also thinking about looking into a lawsuit - just seems too coincidental.

I am currently researching joining the lawsuit.

I was on Yasmin for a few years and this past November I suddenly got a severe pain in my chest. I was sent to the hospital and found out that my gall bladder had completely shut down and was extremely infected. I'm only 21 and eat a very low fat diet, so I was shocked that I had a problem with my gall bladder. While I was recovering in the hospital, the commercial for the Yasmin lawsuit came on and gall bladder problems flashed across the screen.
I called my doctor and she said she was currently switching her patients off of Yasmin because of issues with side effects.

So, I would encourage anyone taking it to consider changing medications. I now have thousands of dollars in medical bills and some rough scars.

I've been on Yaz for the past two years. I recently went for my annual and questioned my ob about the commercials we've all seen. He wanted to change my prescription and did, although I'm still taking my last month of Yaz. It's frustrating to me to say the least. I am now on a 21 way active cycle pill even though he has been touting the importance of being on a 24 active day pill for the past 5 or so years. I also wonder if I didn't have the appointment how long I would have been left on Yaz. I now have another BCP adjustment to look forward to.

Yaz made me feel sooo much worse when i was on it! I noticed an almost instant change when I stopped taking it! I was always tired, it didn't help my emotional problems I think those were worse too. My contacts became uncomfortable a lot of the time. My husband and I also wanted a baby =) no luck yet but we're not giving up!

After getting the PCOS diagnosis, the gyno I went to put me on Yaz. Shortly after, I got put on metformin by my primary care. I stayed on Yaz for about 5 months and finally decided, Ok, maybe my system has been kick started into gear, time to stop it. So now I'm just on met. Well, I have to say that looking back, the Yaz was really interfering with my libido now as well. Being off of it has made a huge difference in a good direction! Except for the fact that my TOM apparently isn't completely under control yet. I know I need to lose more weight. That should help. but, it's frustrating all the same.

I think it depends on the person. I took Yasmin first and it didn't seem to help at all. The one that helped me the best was Seasonique except that I had a big loss in libido. After I quit Seasonique, my gyno put me on Yaz. Unfortunately, I became very homicidal and suicidal while taking it and my gyno wouldn't listen to me, just told me b.c. doesn't cause that and I needed to stay on it for a couple more months. Luckily, my primary took me off of it immediately and changed me to ortho tri cylen. I was still having problems with my libido and tired all the time so I'm trying to control with just my Metformin and diet and exercise.

The current research indicates that BCPs are one of the worst things you can give women with PCOS as they mask the symptoms whilst making the underlying condition worse.

I've quoted Australia's leading PCOS Endocrinologist on my website regarding them:

I think the key here is "any MORE dangerous than any other BCP". The idea of taking artificial hormones began before the FDA or any other governing agency, and Femera (Female Mare's Urine = estrogen), for instance, was "grandfathered" in without any real testing on it. I'm not 100% sure where actual BCP fit into that, but I do know that because of the history, it didn't have to go through all the hoops in order to get approved, so, up until maybe 10 years ago, there really hadn't been a lot of research done on the effects of using any form of hormone replacement. Now, it is known that long-term use of BCP's is linked to worsening IR and other metabolic disorders. In fact, one article I recently read (regarding PCOS treatment) claimed that Yaz increased blood glucose levels more than most other BCP's! Considering that PCOS is really a metabolic issue that happens to have gyno symptoms - you've potentially got a real problem!

Anyways, there ARE some benefits of using BCPs - you just have to weigh the risks with the benefits and figure out if they're what's right for you. BUT - make sure you are doing so from an informed position. Use of BCPs has become so common-place that a lot of doctors don't consider their risks to be any higher than, say, taking Tylenol (so long as you don't smoke, that is), and that just isn't the case!

Oh, and here's a link to the Women's Health Initiative - one of the first real studies done on using artificial hormone control: www.nhlbi.nih.gov/whi/

I think it just has different effects on some people. I started taking it about 3 years ago and quickly stopped. It gave me HORRIBLE chest pains, thought my heart was going to explode. It took me a little while to put two and two together, but once I stopped taking it I didn't have any problems.

When I use to take birth control for my PCOS I would ALWAYS ask for the Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. Its one of the oldest and most trusted birth control pills out there.

I know what it feels like to see that your birth control is killing people. I was on the patch (when I first started using birth control) and my doctor called me and told me to rip it off and a few minutes later I saw the comercials.

I was so mad! It was the first time I had ever used something on a daily basis that was medicine and I just had a gut feeling that something like that would happen. :P

I saw the same commercial! I have an OBGyn appointment next month and was going to ask about it. In the meantime, I've been worried sick about dropping dead...
Glad to know it's frivolous :)
I've been on it a long time for the PCOS too... That and Glumetza.

I had a minor freak-out yesterday because I saw a commercial for a lawsuit (it was one of those "HAVE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE BEEN MAIMED OR MURDERED BY THIS DRUG!?) and it was for Yasmin/Yaz/Ocella whatever you want to call it. I was terrified because I've been taking Yasmin for SEVEN years straight for my PCOS. Well I just wanted to spread the word, after contacting my pharmacist, Ob/gyn, mom, friends, the internet, lawyers lol anybody that would listen to me; Yasmin hasn't been tested or proved to be anymore dangerous than any other BCP. My Doctor's RN told me specifically it's a frivolous lawsuit and she would change my script if I wanted her to but there was NOTHING to be alarmed about, and she didn't feel change was necessary. I just wanted to save people the heartache of the panic attack I had yesterday and hope you see it here first before some sleazy lawyer scares the daylights out of you!
