Wow Im really glad that I read this. I have gained about 20 pounds back since I switched from yasmin to Yaz. It was my gyno that got me to switch and not my endocrinologist. My moods have always been crazy but I believe its been even worse since I have been on Yaz. I have to talk to my doctor, because honestly its been so bad, I thought it was more my depression than anything else. But I really think i need to look a little closer at my bcp!

Yaz is freaking horrible!!! Well most estrogen is bad for you pop out a anatomy and physiology book and read about artificial estrogens effects. I still have yet to find a BC right for me. Anyways on to the crap called Yaz. I tried it once for 3 months ya know gave it a fair shot horrible the whole time. Switched to the nuva ring and kept vaginal infections as well as headaches and mood swings. Back to Yaz again, this time, I had pain behind my eyes, numbness in hands feet and face as well as my arms, migraines for 5 straight days, ate everything in sight, became depressed, couldn't sleep well. Oh and now I am off the stuff and still have a freaking headache and yesterday I took 2 ibuprofren, then 2 asprin, then 2 excedrin to finally get a small amount of relief. I have never had migraines. Oh and not to mention random panic attacks. Never had those either. The impending doom, and I can't even check out in a grocery store without freaking out. DONT TAKE!!!!!!

I started Yaz in May 2007. By August 2007 I had gained 50 lbs!! I could not keep food out of my mouth. On top of that, my emotions were all over the place. I cried for no reason at all. My doc eventually switched me to Loestrin 24 which is another low estrogen pill and I had no problems.

I was on Yasmin and was told to switch to Yaz. . . it made my period unbearable and I turned into a witch. I switched back to yasmin after just a month of it, I couldn't handle it anymore.

Oh my goodness, I just read another post from someone who had been swapped to YAZ. I had been taking Yasmin but because my breasts became so tender before a period and my moods were very out of sorts I was swapped to YAZ. I gained 30lbs when I was on YAZ and my moods weren't any better - I also never got a period.

I was going to get the Nuva Ring too, but I did some research and there were several women who highly warned against the ring. For them, that have not been able to conceive since they completed the ring. One lady and her sister have not been able to get pregnant after being off the ring for 1-2 yrs and going. She also spoke to several other women who said it did the same thing to them, so now they're worried they may never get pregnant; which I hope isn't right. I asked my doctor about it, but he just said they are "wrong" and that was that, but I still refused his offer for it. Below are a list of links for comments/reviews of the NuvaRing (the 1st link is the one I'm referring to in this post):

I don't have any luck with pills high or low estrogen. I gain weight and it doesn't come off. My dr suggested the ring because the hormones are very low and localized. My insurance doesn't cover it so I don't know if it would have helped or not. We went back to condoms.

Everyone's different. I don't do particularly well on low-estrogen because I don't have enough estrogen.
I am on Quasense which is the generic equivalent of Seasonique. I don't ever take the sugar pills, on the advice of my dr, and go directly into the next month of pills.
Before when I was on a monthly pill, every week when I would go off onto sugar pills, my hormones would go nuts. I would gain 5-10 lbs and my acne would go crazy and I'd develop cysts.

For me, this is what has worked. I stopped gaining weight and have been able to start losing.

Sounds like this one doesn't work for you - and I'm sure there is another one that you can find with your dr.
Just be very open about all of your issues--- and educate yourself before you go (which you are doing). If your Dr doesn't seem to get PCOS, they are not the right dr for you.

Best of luck-- I know how frustrating PCOS can be with weight gain!!!

Believe. Fight. Win.

I never heard of low-estrogen problems, I'm on ortho-tri-cyclen Lo, because my blood pressure was on the high side, and I've done just fine for the last year on it.

Since we are talking about estrogen levels.... my doctor switched me from Yasmin(which I loved) to Yaz(a lower estrogen pill). She said because my mom had estrogen positive breast cancer I needed to be on a low or no estrogen pill. I made the switch at the beginning of february and I have gained 20 lbs!! After all that hard work last year I've been pretty depressed about it. I admit I got frustrated and stopped watching what I ate after the first 10 lbs, but now I'm back on my diet now and can't get this weight off. Has anyone had issues with a low estrogen pill? I've read a few books that said a low estrogen pill is not a good idea for PCOS, and they all recommended Yasmin or Diane 35(canada only). I am seeing a doctor in 2 weeks, but thought Id check with you all first.
