I wish that I could tell you guys I had a great appointment, but unfortunately it didn't happen. I was late to my appointment because I got lost driving to the city and then went to the wrong building. When I finally made it to the office the doctor stated (through the receptionist) that she couldn't see me. I kinda begged, considering I've been waiting on this appointment for 6 months and I had to drive all the way to the city, but it was a no-go. I was very upset at first because this is the first step for me in addressing my PCOS symptoms, but then I realized it was probably a blessing in disguise. I can find a better doctor closer to home that will hopefully work with me to address my needs. Just wanted to give you guys an update!

If they are a good doctor, they will take a lot of time going over your info, your family history, and your current situation. Be prepared for them to ask about and look for signs of pcos... hair growth, hair thinning, dark skin patches, acne, etc. Be prepared to describe what symptoms you've experienced and for how long, such as missed periods, weight gain, difficulty losing weight, etc. If you haven't had bloodwork in advance, expect them to want a lot of blood test to check your sugar, cholesterol, hormones, etc.

My endo is excellent, and explains everything. So if I were you, if they recommend any medications, I would make sure I ask exactly what the purpose is and what results you should expect. You should basically be working together to make a plan for your treatment, so make sure you're clear on what that is. If there are symptoms that you want addressed, make sure you say so and ask what your options are.

I hope this helps... I've had pcos for a long time, and only saw an endo for the first time very recently. I felt very well cared for and that with their help I am much healthier now, and I hope for the same for you. And lastly, I unfortunately know people who have not had a good experience. So, if that happens to you, I would find someone else to go to. I can't tell you how happy I am that I found a doctor that knows their stuff and that works with me and has really helped me!

Can't wait to hear how it goes, and if you have any other questions, feel free to hit me up... I'm happy to help if I can!

Hi Everyone! So tomorrow I have my first appointment with an Endocrinologist. It is my first time since being diagnosed with PCOS that I am seeing a doctor to specifically deal with the symptoms that I experience. I think I've been in denial and shuffling around dealing with this. It took me 6 months to get this appointment at the NYU Langone Center in New York City. This endo specializes in PCOS and I hope to get some really good answers and next steps. What should I expect from this visit and what should I ask/tell this doctor? Any information that you guys can provide is truly appreciated! emoticon emoticon
