Maybe a little of both? I don't let myself do more than 2 days without working out as a general rule. Sometimes you need to rest :)

So, here's a question. Have I not done a workout in 2 days because I am exhausted and in pain, or am I exhausted and in pain because I haven't done a workout in 2 days?

Andbam- It's nice when those non-weight related effects come out, huh? More energy, decreased anxiety, MUSCLES! When you finally reach your goal weight, some of these side effects become the main motivation :)

I realized something today that kind of surprised me. Although I haven't lost any weight yet (I've gained weight actually - knowing that muscle weighs more than fat) since starting the shred, I can actually feel a difference in my body. My clothes aren't fitting any different yet and I've only lost about half an inch to an inch on my waist but I can feel a difference in the way I carry myself. My core feels stronger and almost tighter. It was a great feeling and a great motivator to keep on doing the workouts.

On the bright side, once you do manage Level 2 well, you can pretty much handle plank exercises! Except maybe Level 2 of Ripped in 30...I think she went a bit overboard on that one.

HNBKAS, the first time I did 30ds level 2 (starting at totally out of shape), I think it took me 4 weeks to get through just that level 2, to a point where I felt I could actually complete each portion of the workout. So just keep plugging away...you'll get there eventually!

Hi Everybody, just checking in here. Good Luck Meri,
I am doing pretty good. I am still at it on Day 5 here and even with sick kids and a sore back and I think I pulled a muscle in my butt I am still going strong. I am taking it easy still on the jumping but am marching fast and doing what I can to keep that heart rate up and well seems to be doing ok. Still sweating away and keeping at it so that is all I can ask for right. So on to the next 5 days.
My plan is to just keep going on video 1 until I can do it well and it seems to be getting easy then I am going to move on. Since I am modifying a little. So I may be shredding for 45 or 60 days, which is fine by me.
Well hope you are all having a fantastic week and a fabulous weekend! Shred IT UP!

Good luck, Meri! I used to like to remind myself that (1) 30 Day Shred is only ~25 minutes, and (2) exercise is a gift I give myself, a little bit like flossing your teeth :)

'Not sure how much is "enough" cardio, it really depends on your goals. But there's no sense in injuring yourself. From some of her other videos, Jillian has a couple other no-impact cardio moves: (1) squat & punch [get low and punch with your alternating arms], (2) static lunge w. running arms [try to hold your back knee 1 inch off the ground while moving your arms as if you're running], (3) squat jumps without jumping [touch your toes, unbend with your arms in the air]. You can also do things like kick-toe-taps, or squats with alternating roundhouse kicks.

So Life got in the way over the weekend but I got back at it today. So I am just starting over.
Day 1 down. Yay me.
Still really hard. Legs burn. So It must be working. I hope because I have a big goal to hit this week.
Anyone here done this before and had trouble with the jumping jacks? I have really bad knees and they are hurting me. I am trying to march fast in place for now but want to make sure I am doing enough, Is this ok? anyone know. I just can't afford to get hurt right now. I need to keep going and I would rather go slow and steady with what I can do then push hard and get hurt.
Here's to being lean in 2015!

Was sick all last week/into the weekend. Got back to it on Monday - did Level 2 Day 7; tonight was L2/D8. I am now doing the squat thrusts for most of the cardio, and all the plank jacks; upped weights for the iron crosses to 5#, just taking it slow.

In good news, my triceps are noticeable when I extend my arms-you can see them through my shirtsleeves!

Got in level 2 day 4 (cannot believe I'm already 4 days into these workouts!) tonight because I won't be able to work out tomorrow.

I upped to 5# for the second set of weight exercises - doing better on the iron crosses, and I finally figured out how to do the oblique twists without falling over. Pendulum lunges are a little better but still torturous.

Exhausted since Wednesday, busy weekend but I managed to bust out Level 2 Day 3 tonight (fighting that oh-so-familiar "30 day shred makes me want to puke" feeling). Still super tough but not as difficult as L2/D1 at least.

Going for a run tomorrow, then shredding again wednesday.

Exhausting, long, and disheartening day at work - came home to L2D2 and while I did not bring it as hard as I have in the past, I really needed and enjoyed the workout (as much as I can enjoy this torture!)

And I shredded tonite. Moved up to Level 2 (so this was L2/D1) and it is no joke.

And I am completely uncoordinated.

I haven't heard of Beginner Shred - when was it released?

I got in L1/D9 tonite - I usually run on Saturdays but my running partner had to work this morning so we are running tomorrow - which means I'll be shredding again on Monday.

I've done Levels 1 and 2 of the 30-day shred before, but I'm getting back into working out now after a hiatus, unfortunately. I found Jillian's new Beginner Shred and did Level 1 of that last night. Has anyone tried it? I really liked it.

Bettie: thanks for the boost of confidence!

I 'skipped' yesterday's workout (looong day at work 13 hours, didn't get home until almost 9pm) so I busted out L1/D8 tonight. Felt good and stronger than I have so far - probably helped by the sub-80* temps tonight!

I'm planning to move on to Level 2 either Wednesday or Thursday emoticon

Good morning, VIKINGBABE. I went back to level 1 until I purchase the level 2 disk. On level 2 they keep stopping the tape which prolongs the time you are up without adding to the exercise itself. You don't have to be perfect, but you do have to practice. Eventually, you will graduate from level 2.

Bettie: I'll be joining you on Level 2 next week - I just finished Day 7 of Level 1; we "previewed" Level 2 so I can get the full effect of "oh I can't do that!" - but then when I started 30DS I couldn't do buttkicks or those anterior/lunge thingies.

BMColley: congrats! I've got another week before I move to Level 2, but I'm watching it to 'ready' myself now!

Skipped Thursday's workout (well, it was an extra rest day), did L1/D6 on Sunday, upped my chest flys to 5#. I will probably never do "anterior raises with a side lunge" with anything but 2# as they SUCK and I HATE THEM, but I can say I am much better at them now than when I first started. But seriously, they suck.

L1/D3, pushed a little harder, switched from 2# to 5# for the rows.

Level 1 / Day 2 in the bag today. It fell apart for me during the jacks/jump rope part but I was able to do all of the squats and everything else so I can already see progress :)

I'm thinking about increasing my weights for some of the exercises (curls and rows mainly) but am afraid to go above 2# after my very first attempt at 30DS (used 5# for everything because I had been "using 5# and 8# this should be cake" and ended up on the floor dry heaving during the cool down).

I'll see how I feel tomorrow, when I do L1/D3!

Hey there - I posted on the wall that I started (level 1 / day 1) yesterday. I'll be 30DS on Sunday/Wednesday/Thursday and running on Saturdays and Mondays. Planning to get through all 3 levels this time!

As an update from my first day of Shredding, holy DOMS batman! Legs and shoulders I expected, but my lower abs and ribs hurt something fierce today - guess I challenged some muscles I hadn't been working when doing P90 (not the x just plain).

Rest day today. I'll be doing some less intense exercises today so I don't injure myself. My goal is to do five days of 30DS this week.

DRGLILY: You, BBRITTON1018, and I all started on the same day. Good luck with day 2, if you haven't already done it. emoticon

Level 1, Day 2: Wow, my calves are aching--a good ache. I think I need to wear shoes, though, my toes hurt from the lunges. I might take a rest day tomorrow so I don't overdo it. I'll see how I feel in the morning.

Level 2 is really killing me. I have done 17 workouts and still cannot get through the whole thing (its just discouraging). I have improved and am very close to completing the whole level without stopping, but still struggling with jump rope, pendulum lunges and squat thrusts. I am moving on to level 3 on Sunday regardless. That will be 20 days so time to move on. Endurance has really improved, strength somewhat and generally I do feel better.

The race is not to the swift, but to the one who endures to the end.

Day 7 of level 3 done! Almost done!

My heart rate monitor is telling me that I'm not burning as many calories as in the other levels. I wonder what's up with that. I've added some kettle bell swings to up my total for level 3.

Only 3 days left!

Level 2 Day 12 (I think, my calendar is at home, I'm at work) completed. Day 1 was awesome but soooo a fluke. I thought Level 2 was going to be easy...HAH! I am still trying to complete this level without stopping. Hopefully by Friday I will be able to move on.

So many emergencies and family problems that were rather catastrophic kept happening. Restarting or delaying always happening. Let us see how I do here.

I started playing music during the workouts. It helps me to get through some of the moves that I find difficult: pendulum lunges and chair squat with v fly. Those kill me! My mind gets to wander while I squeeze at the top!
