In your calories to be consumed factor, is your calories being burned accurate? When I hit a plateau I was not consuming enough for what I was burning. I too was eating at the bottom edge of recommended calories. When I bumped it up (and it was hard) then the weight started to come off again.

I've experienced plateaus when I'm not eating enough, because your body goes into starvation mode. So, instead of loosing weight, your body desperatly holds onto weight.

You said that your on the low end of calories. Maybe you should switch to the high end for a few days.

I also want to note: weight means very little. I am the same weight I was a year ago, but am 2 sizes bigger. I'd focus more on overall changes, and less on weight.

No, as of right now, I'm not ST...Yes, I've tracked for a long time so I am confident that I'm not eating too many calories. I will work out a ST routine to follow during the week and see if that makes a difference. I wonder if 3x/wk would be enough?

Wendy,

Are you tracking your nutrition? What calorie range are you eating? Are you strength training?

Thanks, everyone for your comments. OK tonight I am going to the gym to work up a ST program that suits. The message board plus a bunch of other friends have told me the same thing. Altho I don't look forward to it, I will do it.

Can someone please explain though why expending LOTS of energy each week doesn't result in wgt loss? I assumed that there were physical laws which say this will happen. It's not like I'm gorging after runs or anything. Yes, I could probably even afford to eat more calories. What's the science behind this? I mean, I know by experience that my line of thought isn't working...I just wonder why.

Are you eating enough? On top of strength training, muscle burns more calories so you may not be eating enough!

Honestly, being stagnant since January doesn't sound like an incredibly long time to me. But - I agree w/Coach in that strength/resistance training needs to be a part of the mix too. Try increasing calories just a little bit to see if the scale will nudge.

Wendy,

Running is a great cardio activity, but you also need a sound strength training and flexibility program to compliment your running. Not only will ST transform the way your body works, but it also make you a more efficient runner as well as keeping injury potential low.

I joined SP back in Oct. 2011. At first, it was primarily to focus on my nutrition and wgt loss. I lost wgt slowly but surely. Then after Christmas I sorta switched gears and began to really focus on fitness b/c I set my sights on running a HM in ATL on Thanksgiving Day. I started to run using a training program designed for HMs.Running has been my primary exercise. I usually run about 16-19 miles per week. At each run I burn from 400 - 700 calories. My time has continued to improve from a 15 min pace to a 10.5 min pace. I've seen REAL progress in my fitness level...I feel great, I have more confidence....I'm amazed that it's ME doing this.

I eat clean...(not much choice for anything else where I live)...I stay at the lower end of my recommended calorie allowance...I drink all of my water each day...I don't skip workouts...I think I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing.

On the other hand, my wgt. and inches have remained stagnant since Jan. I am having a hard time remaining upbeat when I work SO hard at running with not much to show for it. (I tell my husband that if he could see my heart, it would be ripped and standing proudly in a bikini!) My husband says he can tell my body shape has changed but in places that I can't measure (my face, shoulders, back, arms, etc.)

I thought that there was a simple principle of Less food + More exercise = Wgt loss

What am I doing wrong?!!!!! I'm super frustrated. Any tips?
