Hi thanks for asking. Actually I had a set back this winter. I tore my ACL (knee ligament) and meniscus in early February, had knee surgery in March. Right before it happened I ran my first 8.5 miles ever so I was on track for the 1/2. But since then I have not been allowed to run and won't be able to start running again until end of May treadmill only. I won't be able to do outdoor running until later in the summer. but I'm making great progress, I'm allowed to use the exercise bike for 10 minutes 3x per week and am able to do strength training on my upper body. My physical therapist prescribed some lower body strength exercises, but it's slow going. Anyway I gave one of my friends my number for the 1/2 marathon, but I will run it next year.
Good luck on your 10K!

AMYNYNJ - How did your 1/2 marathon go??
I'm running my first race ever this weekend, April 14, a 10K. Excited and nervous too. But it should be a grand time. I'm just grateful that I can move!
My goal for the rest of the week is to prep for the 10K. I ran a nice 7 miles on Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised.
Have a great week all!

BEAUTY_WITHIN, Love your goals!
I'm at the same caloric budget as you are. I've added running and upping my cardio and staying at the same budget. I'm just eating more on the high end than on the low end. For me, I'm getting plenty of calories to stay strong but I'm also continuing to lose 1 lb per week this way.
Hope that helps you as you decide what to do while upping your exercise.
I'm preparing to run my first 5K in April. Yea!

I'm running my first 1/2 marathon on April fools day. I've been running about 15-20 miles per week (5 miles 3-4x per week) since about August. I stopped road running for the last few weeks due to pain in my knees. I still did cross training and a few shorter distances on the treadmill at the gym which I hated, but I thought the treadmill would be better on my knees. Anyhow I finally went to the doctor last week and got diagnosed with patella tendonitits. He suggested I order patella tendonitis bands and prescribed an anti inflammatory. He also said I should take a break if need to. I was pushing myself pretty hard since May last year to burn off all the excess weight. Anyhow, I think I'm done resting (it's been almost two weeks since I ran). My bands have arrived in the mail and tomorrow I start officially training for the 1/2. I plan to run about 7 miles tomorrow. The only glitch in my training program is I'm going skiing for a week in February and don't plan to run since I will be skiing all day anyway. My personal trainer who is also a marathon runner says it shouldn't be a problem if I take a break to ski. So wish me luck all.

Hi everyone! This is my first post on this topic, so forgive me if I'm a bit clueless. :) My goal for the rest of the week is to walk at least a mile by the end of the week (walking .5 mile for a bout a week straight now, it's getting easier!!!) I'm also aiming to run at least a city block comfortably by the end of the week.
Nutritionally, should I be changing anything to accommodating the starting to run? I'm aiming between 1,200 & 1,550 per day at the moment on spark's reccomendation. Thoughts?

Still going on my 'streak'! JUST got the 20 in today and it was walking, not the circuit I usually do Wednesdays. But my body is screaming for a rest. I'll ease back in with a short run on Friday. Don't think I'm going to chance anything tomorrow either. I always lose on rest days anyway.

Weekend's over - back to the grind. sigh. Sounds like you guys are still moving in the right direction. No rewards for me for all the exercise yet - well, 'cept the exercise is getting easier. Those two pounds are back.

I should draw a tiny bikini on the inside of my wrist with permanent marker just as a reminder... or maybe just draw a string around a finger... that would draw less attention...

I have lost another two pounds. Didn't run or bike today, but went out with my boys and played frisbee for an hour after dinner, and on a Friday night too! I let them off the hook when their friends started showing up. But it was fun while it lasted.

Great job Kirsten on losing those two pounds. As of yesterday morning, I was down one. I'm really trying to stay within range, but after dinner, I am still hungry. Maybe I'll go get a glass of water. Oh yeah, that will help!!!

Yay, you guys!
As of WI this morning I've lost 2 pounds - aaaaahhhh... Too bad I didn't put them on my tracker in the first place - lol! At least my tracker isn't lying any more!
I walked for about 4 hours yesterday, Saturday was my day off. Tonight I was supposed to do Yoga but they locked the stinkin' doors early grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... So I ran 7k on the dreadmill instead. Actually, it was good! 500 calories is 500 calories right? Will get back on the tracker tomorrow.
Go girls, you can do this!

Thanks for the kick!
I have been doing really well with eating at home, but at school I am totally not even thinking about nutrition. Today I ate way too many peanut butter Smidgens from Gertrude Hawk - just because they were there. I need to stop acting like the calories at school don't count!

My run tanked today but I'm gonna go try it again when hub and kids get back. Still, within range this week for cal's and got my 20 min's+ in every day so far since the 4th... and I seem to have lost a couple of pounds. Will let you know on WI day.
Loving this challenge, thanks for the kick in the butt - and here's one for you, Carrie! Keep it real girls! *muah*

Anne, we had asparagus (not from our garden but we did have cukes from our garden) and stuffed tilapia for dinner last night too....did I send text you my menu last night? LOL
I never like asparagus but it's my DHs favorite so I got it for him last night. I decided it was time for another try.
Well, guess who likes asparagus now?
DH isn't too thrilled about it because he said his serving just got smaller

We had asparagus from our garden yesterday. OMG....it was amazing! It was just a few pieces and quite little but Oh so good!!!! We also had tilapia and some yummy ravioli stuffed with red peppers and roma tomatoes. (Just a few each).
Hoping to see the darn scale budge also!!!
Good job ladies!

Woo hoo! I had a GREAT Day!!
Went to the Y and did a 15 min warmup run to check out the new Dmills. Then my first circuit class ever - had to seriously modify to keep the quad from screaming. Maybe it's an injury and not just delayed soreness? Dunno. Still feelin' it though.
Cals well within range, even room for a snack when I get back from my meeting tonight! :o)
gotta run
check back with you later.

Well Dani, the walk would definitely not hurt going up against a smoothie! LOL, reminds me of when I was going to University, and my roommate and I would go out for walks in the evening. Somehow, no matter what direction they started in, they always ended up at Dairy Queen!
And I had to laugh at my last post. You know how iPad does the auto-correct on words? Well I was writing "exercising" where it placed "exerting". Same diff! I try to catch those, but apparently I didn't see that one.

CONGRATS ON NO DONUTS!!! WOO HOO!!!!
i cooked a fairly healthy dinner last night for mike and i... a chicken dish, green beans and salad... chicken included some swiss cheese and cream of chicken soup and butter as its 'worse' ingredients... oh well! then mike wanted to walk for ice cream... does a 2.5 mile walk at HIS pace make up for the small strawberry smoothie??? hmph.

Tim's has a new donut: S'MORES! It's tasty I'm doing okay nutritionally. I've also run over 21 miles so far this month. I should be okay if I keep things moderated.

Good luck with those donuts, Judi! My problem is I'd probably reward myself with a donut! Jk. Also, no way can I run 5.5k in 30! I had 30 min on the schedule but stayed out longer. I've only run a 30min 5k once or twice ever.
I took some time to sit down and map out a training plan for myself. I only have one race on the docket this year, the Crim 10 miler in August. But if I don't get cracking, I won't be ready! Fingers crossed I can stick to it!
