HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE YOU EATING FOR?
The following are examples of the size of one serving, and example of food you can eat.
One serving size of bread
the size of a CD or 2 oz. of italian or french bread
One serving size of grain
1/2 cup of cooked rice or pasta,or rice,or corn meal, barley, or other cereal grains, or one slice of bread, or 3 cups of pop corn, or HALF a bagel,or one 4' diameter pancake,or a 2 oz. muffin
One serving size of butter
One serving of cheese
size of 2 dice
One serving size of dairy
1 oz of cheese. or 1/2 cup of yogurt 8 oz. of milk, or 1/3 cup of shredded cheese,or 1/2 of pudding made with milk
How many serving of fruit should you have?
One serving of fruit
6 oz. of 100% fruit juice,or 1/4 cup of dried fruit or 15 grapes, or one medium orange or apple,or half a grape fruit., or half of one 8" diameter banana,or half a mango, or half a peach, or 1/2 cup of strawberries
How many oz. in one serving of fruit?
4oz. which is the size of a hockey puck
How many oz. in one serving size of meat?
One serving of meat
1/2 of a SMALL chicken breast, or 3 thin slices of deli meat,or 7 medium shrimp
Comparable size of meat serving
the palm of your hand, a deck of playing cards, or a small pack of tissues
_____ serving of protein a day
3-4 examples eggs, meat, fish, beans,fish, dried beans, nuts, or seeds
One serving of vegetables
1 cup of salad or lettuce, or 1/2 cup of cooked vegetables,any raw vegetable,cooked frozen,canned, dried,or mashed, or a small sweet potato,or 1/2 cup of cooked beans,or 1/2 cup of mushrooms. 3 inch slice of an onion,or a 6 oz. of 100% vegetable juice
On a 9' dinner plate you should have
1/2 the plate with fruit, or vegetables
1/4 of the plate with protein - rich foods
1/4 of grains
