I struggle with fasting unless I sense the Lord's calling to it. He did that many times, my favorite was a forty day fast ... No food, some juice on a few days. I did drink lots of water. It was an amazing experience so close to our Lord. By virtue of the very low calories I should have lost a lot of weight. That didn't happen. It was a great reminder that diet was not part of what the Lord was doing with me. Despite multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, migraines and arthritis and despite all the medications that should have been taken with food and despite those who knew who were so against this fast.....God had a plan. I was stronger and healthier during those 40 days than I had been for years before or since. When He calls, He prepares and enables. Praise God!
I am beginning a fast today. Not so restrictive this time, but, I sense I must fast and pray for my mom (98) andmy mother-in-law (97). They are amazing, but both need to grow closer to the Lord before it is too late. Blessings to all. I am also fasting for the women who will apply for the single mom scholarship I'm chairing this year. The applications are due Feb 1st so believe that will be the end. God is so good. emoticon

Fasting to Overcome Food Addiction
by
Jim D.

I arrived home Sunday evening feeling bloated and depressed; ashamed of myself for over-indulging.

I made the decision to start a fast after a weekend eating binge at my mother's house. I love my mother, but she has a way of pushing food. She cooks the old-fashioned way, with plenty of red meat and potatoes, desserts, the whole works. I attribute mom's ďfood pushing" to her growing up with three sisters during the Great Depression. My grandfather was out of work for a long time and maybe there just wasn't enough to eat in their house.

When we visit my mother she is always obsessing on about what we're going to eat. She even writes out her menus in advance and reads them to me over the phone. I've told her many times that we don't care, but you know how it is.

Whatever the reason, mom equates food with love so as a result my brother, sister and I were loved into obesity. As adults we are all still obese. I am 5'9" tall and weigh 240 pounds, toping the scales at 260 pounds. This resulted in high blood pressure causing my doctor to want to put me on medication. Instead, I began exercising and watched what I ate. I lost 25 pounds, which lowered my BP enough to avoid medication. But the weight slowly crept back on.

In the past, I've had trouble resisting the rich spread Mom would set before her family. This time was no different. Even though I had been on the South Beach Diet for a couple months and lost 18 pounds, those old comfort feelings of momís supper table were still there, and resistance was futile. Candy, ice cream, cake, roast beef and many other foods we don't eat at home, all beckoned, and I answered their call.

I arrived home Sunday evening feeling bloated and depressed: ashamed of myself for over-indulging. I had enough. Seemingly on the spur of the moment I decided to start a water fast the next day. My decision was not made on a whim. I have tried fasting several times before and never even made it through the first day. I recently had begun praying for guidance and came to the conclusion that fasting was something I needed to do for both my body and spirit. So this fast would have twin aims: to lose weight and to better connect with God.

I sailed through the first couple of days when hunger pangs were at their worst. It felt like God was sustaining me. The prolonged absence from food enabled me to make a life-changing breakthrough. I will never forget day 9 of my water fast, that is when my food addiction died.

It all started in the early morning with a strange dream.

I was standing at the top of a staircase looking down into a dark basement. I could hear someone crying down there. At first I thought it was my daughter, but then realized it wasnít. Someone started coming up the stairs. It was a girl I had ever seen before, just an average-looking girl with longish dark hair. When she reached the top of the stairs she embraced me, looked in my eyes, and then died in my arms.

Upon awakening, I had a clear understanding of what that strange dream meant. The girl represented my pathological relationship with food, and the basement was my subconscious. She crawled out of whatever hole in my soul she had occupied for so many years, and she reassured me that everything was ok and then she left me. I knew that this was a life changing moment.

I started the fast at 223 pounds, and the morning of the dream weighed in at 207, 16 pounds in eight days, and the lightest I've been in decades. I'm confident that not only will I continue to lose weight (my long-term goal is to get to 175 pounds) but that I can keep it off having rid myself of a lifelong food addiction that began as a little child.

Blessings to all .. Lisa

We are on the last leg of our fast, how's it going??

That fasting High

By
Angela Munson

"Clean, pure, healthy, enjoyable, fulfilling without any additives, preservatives, MSG or processed sugars. I knew I would never see food the same again."

I had been wanting to hear from God about some tuff things going on in my life. I had only tried a 3 day fast so that's where I started. I drank fresh juice and herbal teas. My original goal was to duplicate the 3 day fast, but on the 3rd day I was on such a high of energy and a spiritual lift that I felt God leading me to a longer fast. Day 4 arrived and I didn't self destruct without food. Actually I started to dislike the idea of eating and saw food as an annoying distraction. This was an amazing feeling considering that I was once consumed by food, talking about what I was going to eat, asking my friends what they ate, planning lunch etc. Looking back now its ridiculous the importance I placed on food.

The 4th day and everything continued with no problems. I was ecstatic as the days flew by. I purchased good quality fruits and veggies and was taken by how beautiful they looked on my cabinet and in the fridge. Beautiful colors, red peppers, red apples, peaches, yellow pineapples, orange yams, celery. A thought struck me that this is how they ate in the Garden of Eden. Up to that moment I had never appreciated the blessings and beauty of fruits and veggies. God revealed to me that the pure unadulterated foods He created was like his relationship with me. Clean, pure, healthy, enjoyable, fulfilling without any additives, preservatives, MSG or processed sugars. I knew I would never see food the same again.

I was plugging right along with the juice fast and on day 11 about 10am or 11am at work I felt this peace and overwhelming presence of joy and release. It was at the point that I felt released from the fast. I didn't feel that way the day before, or even when I woke up first thing in the morning. Jesus is such a gentleman, so sweet and gentle. However I suddenly felt afraid, scared that with the ending of the fast it would somehow end this deepened fellowship. I thought, I'm not ready God.

I gently broke the fast as recommended and am continuing to eat healthy foods. There is no way I could have ever done this 11 day fast without the Lord. I was pliable and moldable in His hands, and as a result he was able to do great things within me internally. It was an incredible spiritual journey that I look forward to doing again. A side benefit was that I lost 12 pound without even trying.

I think what kept me on the path was that I knew I could handle the 3 day fast, was a given. But God had a plan and He used my faith and where I was to catapult me forward to His perfect fast.

Healed and Changed On The Inside
by
Caralee

ďFour days after the crisis, I awoke bursting with mental and physical energy. I felt alert, clean, and thin.Ē

I was open to fasting because I was at my witís end with a sinus problem as well as a candida infection. I had a rash on my face with redness and burning. My first fast was three days and I felt better, but afterward lost control and ate everything in sight. The good feeling received from fasting disappeared and the mucus effect returned in full force.

A week later I started to fast with greater determination, fasting five days and eating sensibly for seven. On the fourth set of five-day fasts something happened. I had an intense pain in my head with hot and cold flashes and fluid in my ears. Mucus was draining from my sinuses. My tongue was white and my skin pale. My reactions slowed and I felt drugged. Luckily, this only lasted for a day, as the feeling subsided on the second day.

Four days after the crisis, I awoke bursting with mental and physical energy. I felt alert, clean, and thin. I could breathe clearly through my nose. My facial rash had cleared. At this stage of the fasting, some of my friends became concerned because of how thin I looked, but to me I felt healthy. Besides, fasting had cleared up my agonizing symptoms.

Stupidly, I ate some flour products and sinuses clogged within a day; a frightening reminder of how these foods affected me. I had never seen the effect so clearly. Fasting had given me a clear indication of what I shouldn't eat.

A week later I was at a party with my friends and watched their life style; all surface, void of meaning, gossipy, and pettiness. I thought, what am I doing with my life? I'm not happy. I was crying, felt angry, hurt and scared. It was all wrong. I thought it was okay just being the same as them, but now I understood that it was toxic to who I really am.

Something is pulling me; I can't stop it. I am being pulled whether I like it or not. My body has been transformed on the inside through fasting. I want pure things and am no longer satisfied with what my life once was.

Good Morning all !!!

God is so good !! How could we ever lose faith in knowing that our Father loves us so much to where He stands by us no matter what. He cries for us, He smiles for us and He holds us. No matter what we do, He will never let us go.

Hallelujah !!! Be blessed this wonderful God given day and never forget that you are love by the almighty and you will never be alone, you always have your spirit to guide you.

Guilt and Shame Turned Into Joy
by
Becky Vance

ďAs each day went by my past became further away and the pain, guilt and shame had gone away completely.Ē

About three years ago I was talking with some friends from church that had just finished a 40 day fast and I was very impressed and curious as to how it was done. They gave me a copy of a book called" The Fasting Feast." I looked through it and was inspired but didn't have the deep convictions needed to begin one. In May of 2006, I had moved to a point of in my life of rebellion against God and my own value system. I met a man that was not a Christian and fell knee deep into trouble. I began drinking like a fish and finally became pregnant. There was so much guilt and shame that I stopped going to church. Along with what I already felt about myself I didn't want to be accused of being a hypocrite. By December I was in such a depressive state and I just couldn't snap out of it. I had a miscarriage in August that almost took my life, and by December I was knee deep in debt from hospital bills that I had no way of paying. Being a single mother of three children on top of everything else really took its toll. I have always been considered a very strong person. I even gave birth to my children at home with no drugs.

Things were so bad that I figured it wouldn't hurt to try fasting. I set my mind on three days, but by the third day I decided to go seven days. By the seventh day I was feeling so good that I decided that I would go as long as I could. By the second week I had received a letter in the mail that my hospital bill had been written off. ($6655.00)

As each day went by my past became further away and the pain, guilt and shame had gone away completely. There were so many good things happening and so many prayers being answered that I never wanted to eat again. I felt like I was with God and on a completely different plain. I had more patience then I have ever had with my children, was happier then I have ever been in my entire life and I had a clear conscience before God and man.

By the time I was through with the fast I had gone 25 days and lost 24 much needed pounds. Today I am on my ninth day of a fast I have been meaning to start for the last year. Finally I have started and set a 40 day goal. I have learned how to listen to my body. By the end of this fast I will have a new outlook on my life that has gone stale because of selfishness. There is no greater satisfaction then when giving up the will to the Lords. I hope that this testimony will touch at least one soul. The most important thing I have learned is that God never gave up on me like, even though I was convinced He had. By surrendering to him through fasting He was able to show me how much love He has for me because I was quiet enough to listen.

Another great testimony !!!

Testimonies are a great way to see what God will do when you haven't experienced it yourself yet. For those that are just beginning the practice of fasting you may be thinking that it's nothing but a way to starve yourself and it's no big deal.

When you fast right and for the right reason and motivation, fasting is a very big deal. It's your own personal sacrifice for God and He will honor that beyond your belief and understanding. Give God a chance to work, you will be in awe for what He will do for you. You are His child, You are the light of His eye and the reason that He died on the cross. He gave His life for You. He made a sacrifice for you and to show Him how much you love Him, we all need to make a sacrifice for Him daily.

Christian Fasting
Brought From the Brink of Suicide
By
Koni

ďAs the fast progressed an amazing thing began to happen. I began to feel, yes feel Godís presence again for the first time in years, soothing and healing.Ē

Once, as a child I heard the call of the Lord and enrolled in bible college in my mid teens. But after my first year E. P. B. C. I became enamored by a handsome young man, and dropped out of bible college to chase after a romantic dream that led me far away from God. The dream ended in a broken marriage, a lovely five year old daughter killed by a careless driver and a car accident which killed my brother on my birthday. Hurting, alone and far from God, who had once been my source of strength, I felt hopeless. The climax was 1991, at the end of my endurance, crying from a wasted life and what might have been, I attempted to drive my car off a harbor. I just wanted the pain to end.

What happened in my moment of desperation was almost indescribable. There was a distant voice telling me suicide was not the answer. I found myself in a shipping plaza at 2 A.M. with no recollection of driving there. I started praying for the first time in years. "God, oh God" I cried. "It's you isn't it?" I heard no more even though I begged him to communicate further.

I remembered hearing that one can get closer to God through fasting and prayer. I now longed to hear that voice and feel that presence again. The longing to hear God was greater than anything I have ever felt for a man. Taking an apartment across the street from the shopping plaza I began ten day water fast. Locked in the apartment without phone, TV or friends, I prayed and sought God night and day.

As the fast progressed an amazing thing began to happen. For the first time in years I started to feel, yes feel Godís presence again, soothing and healing. And then again that distant voice, but closer this time, calling me back to vision and purpose. I knew he wanted me back in ministry. I was still wanted by God. I was still useful. "Work with the oppressed and downtrodden." "But" I argued "You have the wrong person! I am all that myself. How can I help others? Besides I'm dirty."

I was putting away things in the new apartment and had just picked up a frying pan cover in years of blackened burned grease. It was a pan I had all through the years of a broken marriage. The spirit said, "Look at the pan in your hand. See how black and filthy it is? If you can clean up that pan I can clean you up to do my work." Under the sink was half an SOS pad left by the previous occupant. Skeptically, I gave it a few passes over the bottom of the blackened pan. To my amazement the chard grease gave way revealing shinny newness, just as it was twenty years earlier. The astonishment turned to joy as the cleansing began happening not only to the pot but within me. I could feel it as clearly as a fresh breeze on my face. I knew God had done the impossible as I scoured my old frying pan into newness again. I began to dance, laughing, singing, tears of joy streamed from my eyes. I was now convinced that, in Christ I was as worthy as anyone to do whatever task He had in store.

Throughout the rest of the fast, I continued to feel incredibly close to God, penning poetry and song, obtaining instruction from the beautiful soft voice which remained always near. When the fast was over I was ready, and started His work.

A testimony that I just read from a website called Freedom You.

Christian Fasting
Juice fasting to Draw Closer to God
by
Keith Boswell

ďI lost 5 lb during the fast . . . but the best part of it though, is that my relationship with God deepened.Ē

I'm a missionary in the Middle East and all my adult life, I've tried to fast. I would water fast, usually for a day, but once for five days. Honestly, I found the experience too painful to get anything out of it. Two years ago, a missionary colleague of mine had a deeply fulfilling 10 day fasting experience. I longed for that kind of communion with God. I discovered the Freedomyou site and decided to do a juice fast. But first I asked God for confirmation that I should do this, and He gave that to me.

I went into the fast with only one purpose, to draw closer to God. Though juice fasting isn't as painful, I did experience hunger which drove me to rely on God. He rewarded me in ways I didn't expect. One of the strangest things that happened is that I quit biting my fingernails. I had this habit since I was 10 years old and tried to quit many times. Something else that happened is that I lost my desire for unhealthy food. It's like the fast broke my addiction to sweets and processed foods. I came out of it craving a bowl of fruit, in fact after the fast, I became a vegetarian!

The last benefit is that I lost weight. I wasn't heavy, but as I got older (I'm now 46), I had gained some extra weigh. I lost 5 lb during the fast and then continued to lose weight after it since my stomach felt smaller, so I didn't want to eat as much. I also ate better foods. The best part of it though, is that my relationship with God deepened and since that fast, I have had a better relationship with Him. That fast was a turning point in my spiritual life. I'm writing this now because I'm on day 6 of a juice fast. This time has been like the first. I tried it two other times, but did it with the wrong motivation. It makes all the difference to get spiritually and mentally prepared before you start a fast.

Count down to the first day of fasting. Is everyone ready !!! Use this day to get prepared mentally for the fast.

I will be in church at midnight tonight in prayer but if you are not, remember to pray out 2009 and pray in 2010. Iím looking forward to a much better year.

Letís also keep in mind that this fast is for the Honor and the Glory of God.

For those of you who are fasting for the first time, if you are having a hard time and if you fall, get back up !!! It says somewhere in the bible that when you fall get back up, seven times.

Do you know what the #7 means in the bible? For those that donít know, the numbers that are given in the bible have a reason.

#3 is for Grace
#4 is for Mankind
#5 is for Mercy
#7 is for perfection
#8 is for New Beginnings

Thereís a reason why if you fall to get back up 7 times, thatís for perfection. There is no failed fast, God knows your heart and He knows your sacrifice, you will be blessed for your effort.

Blessings to all and letís check in on a daily basis if possible to see how we are doing.

Father in Heaven,

We are coming to You today Lord in agreement that we will honor You and glorify You through the fast that we have decided to do during the next days and weeks of this new year. We thank you Lord that You have given us another opportunity to be able to stand for You, pray to You and to sacrifice for You. Itís all about you Lord, our Father, our Savior, the Beginning and the End, our Abba Father.

Thank you Lord for blessing us as a group as we pray and fast for you during this time. We are coming to You as a group and as individuals that we will stand together and worship and praise you during the fast. We pray for Your favor and Your mercy during the times that we may feel weak or uncomfortable.

Thank you Lord, and all Godís children say ďAmenĒ and Hallelujah !!!!

Hallelujah and blessings to all.

We are a few days from starting the fast, are we ready Let me remind you all that this is not a weight loss fast, this is a spiritual fast, this fast will be done for the Honor and Glory of God. God will see our sacrifice for Him and He will be so happy to where He will bless us past our own understanding !! Isn't great to know that our Father loves us so much to where He gave His life for ours and now it's our time to honor Him. We will pray out our past year thanking Him for everything that He has provided for us and we will pray in the New Year thanking Him for everything that He will be providing us with. How can we go wrong when we have a Father like God

Check around your place of work or even your family to see if you can get others to fast and pray with you.

Here's a few paragraphs from Jentezen Franklin's Fasting book. As I stated before, he has a great website check it out if you get the chance. I'll post the link at the end.

ďAs you fast, target your unsaved loved ones in prayer. Create a ďhit listĒ of people you want to see saved. It is good to be very specific in your prayers during a fast. What is the one most critical thing you want God to do in your life? ď

ďFasting helps you establish dominion and authority over your flesh.Ē (I am living proof over this, I have broken several food addictions through fasting)

ďFasting is an essential means of sanctifying yourself; pulling yourself away from the world, and getting closer to God. Fasting allows you to filter your life and to set yourself apart to see the Lord.Ē

ďFasting will help you identify areas of even hidden sin and things that are displeasing to God in your life. Fasting helps you discern between serving the flesh and serving the spirit.

Itís time to make a decision on what we will be fasting. Iím trying to think of what is my worst of the worst and my most two struggles are Cokes and added sugar. So that will be my choices.

#1 Ė no caffeinated sodaís of any kind. I will allow myself a Sprite or 7-up from time to time. I am addicted to Coke & Pepsi.
#2 Ė no added sugar. I add sugar to my iced tea, cereals, cinnamon toast, etc.

What will you be fasting ??

Blessings to all .. Lisa

I will pray for God to bless you to be successful. I'm guilty of night eating, too, so it will be a double prayer.

Just a few more days till the fast. I have decided. One of my biggest downfalls when it comes to losing weight is that I eat at night. So I think my sacrifice is going to be not to eat past 8pm.
Yes I do believe I can do this.
Wish me luck and the best of luck to all of you
Lets's start the New Year off right.
God Bless all of you

Our congregation will begin our corporate fast on Jan 3rd, but I will start with you all on the 1st. We are doing the Daniel Fast with no meats or sweets and I will be fasting unnecessary spending. Thanks so much Lisa for your tenacity and conviction to push on in spite of negative feedback. I am particular fasting for clear direction on a marital issue. Thanks so much. I am in.

It is easier to begin a fast after having eaten lighter--lesser amounts of food and less rich foods--before the fast.

Time is ticking away !!! 13 days until the fast !!!

I haven't decided yet what I will be doing either but it's time to start thinking and praying about it. I'm looking forward to a great 2010 !!!

Even though this will be a Spiritual fast to honor God there are other benefits to fasting.

The following is from Jentezen Franklin's fasting book.

"Fasting does not only prevent sickness. If done correctly, fasting holds amazing healing benefits to those of us who suffer illness and disease. From colds and flu to heart disease, fasting is a mighty key to healing the body."

I totally believe this because I fast at least 3 days a week in one form or another. I will fast on Tuesdays until after our women's prayer meeting, every Thursday until after church service Thursday night and I will fast Sunday until after church service. If the church or one of my sisters are coming against something we will fast together for 3 days. I'm telling you by experience, it is hard in the beginning but it gets easier and just from doing that, my way of eating has totally changed and the most important way that it has changed is that now I realize that my life does not revolve around food, I now eat to live, not live to eat. I used to plan in my head the night before what I would be eating for lunch the next day. I was obsessed with eating until I started fasting.

" When you fast, drink plenty of water, it's a great flushing agent" You will be getting rid of toxins as you do your Spiritual fast.

Romans 12:1 - "Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Remember that there are three Christian duties stated in the Bible. As Christians we must Give, Pray and Fast. This is how you present your body to God as a living sacrifice. Fasting keeps you sensitive to His spirit, enabling you to live Holy.

Fasting is what prepares you for a new annointing.

Fasting is a tremendous weapon and a source of power in the life of a believer.

Satan hates it when you fast. Even he knows that fasting will unleash God's power. Satan even tempted Jesus at the end of His 40 day fast, so when you do fast, be prepared for the enemy to try to convince you to give it up.

Blessings to all as you pray and ask God for guidance on this fast. I'll be deciding next week what I will be fasting.

Have a great weekend and always put God first, He loves us all and wants to be included in our everyday lives !!!! emoticon

I first of all want to say I think this is a great idea and I get the point that you are not asking people to stop eating for 21 days, fasting can be anything that you are willing to sacrifice to God.
I love it and am in.
I am not sure what I am going to fast yet, I was thinking one of my main problems is eating late at night. So maybe I'll fast at not eating past a certain time. I am not sure yet but will pray about it and let you all know what God feels I should do.
I wish you all the best of luck and will try my best to be supportive and helpful for all of you. I do not have a lot of time to be on the net but will do my best.
Good LUck to you all, and may God watch over you tonight!!!!

29 days until the 21 day fast. Iím ready !! I have faith that my 2010 will be better yet. Iím already getting a great head start.

Whenever you begin a fast, remember that it doesnít mean anything to God if it doesnít mean anything to you. The fast that we will be doing will not be for ourselves, it will be for the Honor and the Glory of God. We will be sacrificing something that we love or several things that we love for God. We have to show Him that we love Him so much that we put Him first in our everyday lives. Some may be thinking that this is a small sacrifice but God looks at the small things just as much as He does the large things. Fasting Cokes for 21 days is just as important to Him as if we were fasting food all together. God will Honor any fasting that is done in His honor BUT it has to be a sacrifice. It has to be something that you donít want to give up but you will just for God.

The following is taken out of Jentezen Franklinís Fasting Book. Itís a great book and can be found in any book store:

There are three reasons starting the year with a fast is a good practice.

First, by doing so, you set the course for the rest of the year. Just as beginning your day with prayer sets the course for the rest of the day and covers anything that may happen, the same is true of the beginning the year with a fast. You set the course for the entire year by what you do with those first few days of each New Year. You can carry that even further to give God the first part of every day, the first day of every week, the first portion of every dollar, and the first consideration in every decision.

Secondly, blessings will happen for you and your family throughout the year because you fasted in JanuaryÖ. Blessings will find their way to you because of your sacrifice to the Lord at the beginning of the year.

The third reason is most powerful: when you fast at the beginning of the year and pray, you release the principle found in Matthew 6:33. ďSeek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things shall be added to youĒ If you seek Him first in the year, get ready for all these ďthingsĒ to be added to your life throughout the rest of your year!!.

Be thinking about what you can sacrifice for God to start your year off. Iím looking forward to blessings throughout my year!!!

Blessings to all .. Lisa

No matter if you are on a total fast, a partial fast or just giving something up, as we fast we have to stay in constant prayer and concentration. Fasting is something that makes the enemy angry and he will do all that he can to try to make you fail. This is one reason why this fast is so important to me because I have been a failure lately on any long fast that I set out to do, I give in to the enemy by giving up but I wonít this time, itís time to get everything back on track.

Luke 4:1-2 1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

Even Jesus was tempted by the evil one so we have to stand on solid ground to overcome. As it says in Godís word, ďall knees will bowĒ that includes the enemy himself and he will humble himself eventually but until then, we have to overcome his power and endure everything that he throws at us, satan knows that a spiritual fast will bring us closer to God and thatís not something that he takes lightly so when you feel the urge coming to stop your fast or to cheat on your fast, just start calling out to Jesus and you will overcome.

I think we all know Godís rules for fasting, no murmuring, no complaining, donít be grouchy, snippy or snotty, we are to go on with our day as if nothing is different. If someone does try to force food on me I will tell them that I canít eat right now, Iím on a spiritual fast and then they will leave me alone. I normally donít tell them unless they wonít leave me alone when I tell them no or I will tell my sisters at church that I am fasting because we eat together frequently, of course they understand and nothing else is said about it.

Matthew 6: 16-18
16"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I do normally fast twice a week, I fast on Thursday because that is the evening that we have church service so I will fast until service is over on Thursday evenings and I will fast on Sunday mornings until after service. When you fast then you will see God moving in a different way. If this is something that you have never experience then give it a try. When you fast and pray in the name of Jesus, He will manifest and you will be glorified and He will be praised !!! Hallelujah !!!

No matter what fast you choose to do or how you do it, any fast is important to God as long as you are sacrifing for Him. God gave up everything for us and when we give up something for Him, He is happy and He just loves us so much to where He wants to give us everything, we just have to show Him that we love Him enough to give up something for Him.

48 days till fast ...

Christ got negative feedback on working miracles, because it was the Sabbath! Keep on plugging! Prayer, fasting, living in the Word...three steps into God. Of course, it is the Word we obey which teaches us giving, sacrificing, repenting, etc.

I have fasted using just liquids, fasted with bread and liquids, fasted with water only; but have not and will not fast without water. Even Elijah was fasting in a place with water. God provided water out of the rock for the thirsty Israelites. I can only recall one place in the Scriptures where anyone fasted without water, and that was only 3 days. Our bodies are mostly water and water is necessary for the working of all our systems and the flushing of toxins. Fasting many days without drinking water is not wise, and I do not consider those who do it to be on a higher spiritual plane.
Thus said, I think we are in agreement that Biblical fasting is a good spiritual practice. It keeps the flesh under subjection. If one is not in the spirit, s/he is in the flesh. I'm all for getting into the deepness of the Lord through the casting down of the flesh. Persevere, Lisa! You have at least ONE backer.

Since I am already getting negative feedback over the fast lets clarify the types of fast that you can do. Let me also add that any type of fast that you do is between you and God. Pray about it and ask God what type of fast He would have you do, whatever you chose, itís between you and Him.

1. The Daniel Fast Ė one of the most popular fasts. Daniel fasted anything from the Kingís table, he fasted meat and sweets.

2. A Partial Fast - Fasting from 6am Ė 3pm or from Sun up to Sundown. You can decided what you want to fast between those periods.

3. Fasting one or two items for the 21 days Ė something that has a stronghold on you. It doesnít even need to be food, it can be 21 days without watching tv, 21 days without using the internet, etc. Itís up to you, what has itís tightest grip on you?

4. Fasting one meal a day or one snack a day.

Anything that you feel that has a hold on you that you feel like you canít do without. I havenít decided yet how I will fast this year but I have another month or so to decide. It will be something that I will pray about and get ready for. When I say get ready for then I mean that I will fast once or twice before that time to get ready. 21 days is a long time to go without that much loved iced cold Coke or that wonderfully iced Shipleyís Donut or even that Large Cafť Latte that you like to get from that most expensive Starbucks every morning. I know that it sounds hard but Iím talking to those that have never been on a serious fast or have never tried one. When you get to the end of that 3 day, 21 day or 40 day fast and you made it, every pain, every headache, every aggravation, there is nothing that can stand up to that feeling of Victory, to that feeling of winning and the enemy losing and especially knowing that you have pleased God by sacrificing something important to you. I just canít put that feeling into words but I pray that you seek to find it because itís priceless.

As I said in a previous post, God requires three things from us: giving, praying and fasting. We need to fast just as much as we give and pray. When giving, praying and fasting are practiced together in the life of a believer it creates a type of threefold cord that is not easily broken. I have learned something very interesting where God is concerned, as we already know, God has a reason for everything, we also need to know that He also has a reason for numbers. I donít want to get into the whole thing right now but I will tell you that the number 5 is for grace, the number 7 is for completeness, perfection, the number 3 is strong and not easily broken. Eccles 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Do you remember the parable of the sower? Mark 4. We have to plant the seeds and we could be missing our breakthroughs by failing to fast. When you pray you can release a thirtyfold return, when both praying and giving are part of your life then I believe that it releases a sixtyfold return but when all three, giving, praying and fasting, are part of your life then it releases the hundredfold return.

I believe that my fasting and praying kept my son alive through his young adulthood when he was involved in drugs and the high life.

Fasting and praying will move mountains and for those wanting to come up with excuse after excuse then they are not ready for that spiritual level and that's something that they are allowing the enemy to control.

When you want to come up with excuses that's when you overcome and step out on faith and do it.

Me and the sisters at church will fast for between 3 - 7 days for one another and for the church. We call one another at 3:00 in the morning and stay up and pray together. The type of fasts we do is totally between us and God. There are a few that are "old school" and they will totally fast without food or water. I admit that I am not on that level yet, I will fast food completely but I need water.

What you want to fast and how you want to fast is between you and God and God knows your heart and your sacrifice.

I'm praying that by the time January 1st gets here that I can give a clearer picture of a spiritual fast to those that don't understand and maybe someone will step out that hasn't done it before.

My goal is to move mountains, to get answers and to break strongholds, what better way to do that then through God !!! emoticon

I am already getting some negative remarks about this fast and what I'm trying to do.

Please, let me clarify this again !!! This is totally between you and God. Not between Lisa, God and You !!! This is a decision made by you, for you, through God !!!

As we get closer to the fasting date I will be explaining more about the fast, this is not a harmful fast as I have stated before. This is not a total fast, this is a fast to sacrifice something that is a stronghold to you.

For instance, I fasted with a Catholic friend of mine for Lent last year, for 40 days I fasted Coke & chocolate, two things that I loved the most.

I am in no way asking anyone to go on a total fast or to do something that is harmful to anyone. You sacrifice what you feel is your most tempting and would be the most sacrificing to you.

Whatever someone chooses to fast is totally between them and God, God is the highest physician, anything that is fasted is given to God and in no way will harm anyone's health and I in no way would ever involve anyone in something that I believed would harm their health.

This is for God and His Honor and His Glory. If anyone believes that going on this fast would harm their health then it's their choice not to do it and it's also their choice what they fast for their health. For me fasting Coke and Chocolate didn't harm me, it only helped me conquer that stronghold.

So please, no more remarks on how I'm trying to harm someone's health and how they need to go see their doctor before going on such an extended fast, this is not a total fast, this is to release strongholds, to get out of bondage and to sacrifice for God.

I had to smile at your admonition that "fasting" breakfast when you normally don't eat breakfast is not fasting. AMEN

There are a lot of people who won't fast and use the excuse that fasting for more than a day is unhealthy. I'm sure many of us have read Becky Hand's SP article, written from a medical (and faithless, so to speak) viewpoint.

Sometimes we fast for a certain outcome, but get a different answer; however, fasting breaks our fleshly will and gives us the desire to accept whatever is God's divine will for the situation. Having learned my older son had backslidden, I went on a 40-day fast. It allowed me to put him "under the blood" and let the Holy Spirit have free rein to deal with him however he deems necessary in order to humble him and bring him back into the fold. I am able to let go and let God, as they say. I have seen the Lord working with him in certain instances. The fast allowed me to keep from preaching to him, just saying those thought-provoking zingers that only the Holy Spirit can bring to mind.

From what you wrote, I'd say you have your fasting head on straight! Go! Do greater good!

emoticon Iím already excited about getting this fast started and we are a month and a half away from the 1st but it will be great to learn together what itís all about before we venture into a spiritual awareness that some have never felt.

So letís get started !!!

Fasting is the secret key that unlocks Heavenís door and slams shut the gates of hell.

ďBlessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filledĒ Matthew 5:6

Spiritual or biblical fasting is refraining from food for a spiritual purpose. When you eliminate food from your diet for a number of days, your spirit becomes uncluttered by the things of this world and amazingly sensitive to the things of God. Jesus fasted for 40 days, which we will not be doing, but a true, faithful fast will unleash a source of power that many do not know about because they either do not fast or are not successful in doing so.

As you fast and pray you will begin to see God work, you will feel His constant presence. You will feel God moving around the 3rd day of your fast. I donít know why the 3rd day? Maybe He knows that if you have lasted that long that you are sincere in what you are looking for.

During this time of fasting you can use it to your advantage, you can use this time to get the answers from God that you have been looking for. You can just get still, be quiet and listen for His voice.

If a spiritual fast is something that you have never done and you a person who is looking for answers for anything from an illness to a financial blessing, I would encourage you to give it a try. Even if you canít make it the 21 days, as long as you pursue it with your heart, your Faith and your belief, God will see your sacrifice and you will be rewarded !!!

Blessings to all .. Lisa

As I posted on my Blog I want to invite my fellow sparkers to join in with me on a 21 day fast starting January 1st. I started doing it last year and itís a great way to send out the old year and bring in a much better New Year. We always want our next year to be better than the last year.

I have read the Fasting book by Jentezen Franklin which is such a great book that Iím re-reading it. I also follow his website during that time because he does it with his congregation at Free Chapel. For those of you wishing to check it out, you can go to his website to hear sermons and he has a weekly broadcast. I just love his preaching.

Anyway, I want to invite others to join me this year and I will posting frequently about fasting up until January 1st when we start. For those of you who donít know much about fasting and havenít done it or donít do it often, this will be a great start. You can pick any type of fast that you want. You can fast 1 meal a day for 21 days, you can fast 1 or 2 items for 21 days (I have broken a few bad eating habits that way), you can choose anything that you want, just as long as itís some type of a sacrifice. BTW, fasting breakfast when you donít even eat breakfast is not a sacrifice !!!

Something came to mind that I want to clarify. I mentioned fasting once on someoneís thread and I literally got slammed rudely because fasting is not a safe way to lose weight, itís unhealthy, blah, blah, blah. Let me clarify that this is not a fast to lose weight, this is a spiritual fast which is a whole other subject and there is a whole different goal being reached. Fasting is not bad for your health, it is actually a great thing to do healthwise unless you do it wrong.

I am doing this fast for me, for my spiritual wellbeing and I am inviting others to join if they wish, Iím not in any way pushing a religion, this is totally up to the individual. Feel free to do your own research if you wish to do so. I just wanted to make that point clear before someone gets upset. This is all for the Glory and Honor of God, this is to get closer to God and to have a clarity through our spirit.

I will be posting different things having to do with fasting on a frequent basis, if anyone has any questions or concerns you can let me know and we will find the answers. Everything has a scripture backup so we know that itís from God.

Blessings to all .. Lisa
