Here are my answers to the questions from Shannon in yesterdays daily challenge...

1. Think back on the goals you set for the month of June. Are you happy or unhappy with your results? What would you do different?

Well, I didn't lose as many pounds as I thought I would, but I did lose more inches than I thought I had, so it kind of evened out and I'm very happy with my month. I had a week or so in the middle where I didn't count my calories at all and that I would have done differently, but we all have our ups and downs and I made it through so it's ok. Just part of the journey! My only other downfall was an injured ankle and not be able to work out. I know my progress will be so much different when I can do that again.

2. Think of one small (manageable) thing you want to focus on for today or this week. Maybe you want to drink more water, make time for yourself to relax, write in journal, exercise more, etc. Pick one area where maybe you've slacked a bit and attack it like a fastbreak goal for any length of time of your choosing. Tell us in your post what your goal is and for how many days.

Hmm ok well my goal will be to find exercise that I can do without hurting my ankle and do something for at least 15 minutes 5x week for all of July!

3. Fun question - What would be your theme song?

The first songs that came to mind are "Eye of the Tiger" & "I Will Survive".. I looked up a list of motivational songs and they were right up near the top too! hehe... Click below if you need a pick me up!

This is the information I got from:

Healthy Body Calculator www.dietitian.com/calcbody.php

Your Data (This is the info I entered as of June 1 2008)

Age: 29
Gender: Female
Height: 5 feet, 4 inches
Weight: 242 pounds

Activity level:
Sleeping 6 hours
Sedentary 16 hours
Low activity 1 hours
Active 1 hours

Weight goal:
Lose 2 pounds per week

Body fat:
Current 44 percent
Goal 19 percent

Calorie distribution:
Fat 30 percent
Protein 30 percent
Carbohydrate 40 percent

Waist to hip ratio:
Waist 42 inches
Hip 52 inches

Healthy Weight Range
Your weight: 242 pounds
Healthy body weight range is: 108 to 145 pounds

This is a healthy weight for you based on your height and gender.

The weight range does not consider your level of fitness. If you are an athlete, your weight goal based on your percent body fat would be a better indicator of what you should weigh.

Percent Body Fat
Going from 44% body fat to 19% body fat

Weight goal: 167 pounds

If you have a lower body fat and higher body weight, standard weight calculations won't predict an appropriate weight goal. A more accurate weight goal can be calculated from your body fat goal.

Waist to Hip Ratio
Ratio: 0.81

Apple shape (a ratio of .95 or greater) means your body fat is located above your waist which indicates a higher health risk for heart disease, elevated triglycerides, high blood pressure, stroke, longer time to get pregnant, and diabetes.

Pear shape (a ratio of less than .95) means your body fat is located below your waist which indicates a lower health risk.

Your Nutrition Facts
The calories, protein, fat and carbohydrate are customized to your calorie distribution and are adjusted according to your weight goal (maintain, gain or lose). The lowest Calorie Daily Value that will be calculated is 1,200 calories per day.

Your Nutrition Facts
Calorie Daily Value 1,362 Calories from fat 409
Total Fat 45 g
Saturated Fat 5 g
Cholestrol 300 mg
Sodium 2,400 mg
potassium 3,500 mg
Total Carbohydrate 136 g
Dietary fiber 25 g
Sugars 64 g
Protein 102 g

The calories, protein, fat and carbohydrate are customized to your calorie distribution and are adjusted according to your weight goal (maintain, gain or lose). The lowest Calorie Daily Value that will be calculated is 1,200 calories per day.

After each 10 pound weight loss, re-try the Healthy Body Calculator because your Calorie Daily Value will change as you lose weight. This should help prevent a weight loss plateau or as you reach a 1,200 calorie minimum it will show why your weight loss has slowed. Increase your exercise minutes to improve weight loss.

I didn't post here yesterday! Shame on me lol

For today I'll list my goals:

1. Lose 10 pounds or more this month.
2. Be under 200 by my birthday (9/25).
3. Fit into the huge pile of clothes I have that used to fit & give away the clothes I wear now. I have about 30 pairs of jeans ranging from 12-18 that don't fit and I would like them to. One pair at a time as I work my way down.
4. Organize my room in the next month or two!
5. Ultimate goal - lose at least 100 lbs (145), wear at least a size 8 or lower.
6. Someday when I hit goal, become a certified Tae Bo instructor.
7. Eat more clean foods.
8. Develop more hobbies that include physical activity and do them regularly.
9. Become more financial stable.
10. Maintain a regular 5x a week workout schedule.

Short and sweet for tonight.. I worked out more than I have in forever! I bought some new diet foods to eat at the store and stayed within my calories.. I was up in weight by one pound this morning but I know it will go down, it was just because I ate a bit too much on Saturday and sometimes it takes a couple days to show up on the scale. If all goes as I expect, it will be gone by morning :)

Thank you for your comments Shannon!! Much appreciated :)

I just want to nose in to say way to go! I love your accomplishments list. I think that's a great idea that I'm going to start in my own journal. I can be hard on myself at times. I recognize this and I'm working on giving myself a break. I can be a cheerleader for others, but often am challenged seeing my own accomplishments. I think taking time to remind myself what I've done and learned is a great gift to myself.

Thanks for sharing!

Alright well I should be sleeping and not posting but I did want to try to write in a journal every day so here I am anyways lol...

emoticon of June was pretty good! I logged all my calories.. and ate a bit less because for some reason I couldn't stop snacking last night :( I also did a good 45 minute workout and feel great. I'm not going to get enough sleep tonight because it's late and I just got home from a going away party.. but I ate great, worked out and had 10 glasses of water! So, not bad, not bad...

I plan to get up early and work out before work so I better get to bed now!

Well May is over today and I certainly didn't do as well as I would have hoped but I did have a lot of off days so I totally understand why my loss was only 4 lbs.. It's not awesome but at the same time, it's not bad! At least I'm down and on my way to a healthier lifestyle.. and that is more important than seeing a large scale drop.

Things I have accomplished in May:
Loss of 4 pounds - gone forever!
Gained greater respect for myself and my body
Renewed awareness of what I'm eating
Started exercising again (even if just for the last few days)
Increased confidence and positive attitude
Created and utilized this group!
Made new friends :)
Increased desire to quit smoking
Stopped drinking
Was accountable of my weight every day, good or bad
Found a GREAT new healthy fiber bar
Focused on eating breakfast
Reduced late night snacking
Started a journal
Increased my water intake

That's about all I can think of, though I'm sure we can all think of many more positive changes that we make each day, week, month that are just as important as the numbers we see on the scale. This is not just a quest to drop the pounds, though obviously that's a huge part of it, but more importantly it's about being healthy and changing our lives so that we are happy and healthy for many years to come!

So.. lets see here.. I've had 2 big restarts this year already.. In Feb I joined SP and tried.. I weighed less then.. a few pounds.. I think I was down to 235 or something.. Then a few months went by and here I am again. Started back in the beginning of May at 245.

I lost a bunch of weight a couple years ago (82 lbs) and started out that journey at 251 so I'm pushing my old "heaviest" weight again! That's not good at all. It's extremely disappointing to realize that I went through all that to lose so much weight just to be back where I started all over again. The struggle to recommit myself to a healthy lifestyle has been extremely trying and I just want to be strong and get back to the mindset I was in before.

I used to LOVE exercise.. so much that I had to force myself to take off days so that my body could rest. I never wanted to take a break. I measured everything, I counted everything and it really wasn't even a hassle .. it was a lifestyle choice. And it worked. I keep trying to remember how I felt back then so that I can try harder to feel like that now.

I also quit smoking about a month into my diet last time.... and now, as with the weight, I picked up that bad habit again as well about a year and a half ago. Eventually I want to quit again. I'm hoping that once I get on a "healthy kick" again that I will want to quit more.. like I did last time. I was feeling so great about losing weight that I wanted to make myself healthy in all areas of my life.

Right now I feel like it's easier to focus on one thing at a time. I want to get back into eating healthy most every day (with some exceptions, because that's life) and get back into a regular exercise routine. I've been bouncing around 241-245 all month and I hope to finish the month with a 4 or 5 pound loss. That's not fantastic but it's better than gaining or maintaining!

Baby steps.. that's what I keep telling myself.

Yesterday I started working out again in the morning before work and today I continued that habit. They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit so we'll see where I am with that mid June. I feel confident that I will be doing well by then and I plan to lose more than 5 pounds in the next month.

May's Goal: Focus on nutrition
June's Goal: Focus on exercise
July's Goal: ?? Still to be determined!

We'll see how I'm doing and decide later. Maybe quit smoking? Hopefully I'll have my eating and fitness all worked out by then and well on my way to forming life-long changes to my lifestyle.

Mood: Confident

emoticon Welcome to my journal! :)

I always want to start a journal and then I'm horrible about using it. I don't know if I just don't know what to say, if I'm afraid of documenting my screw ups or maybe I'm just lazy! Either way, I'm going to start my journal today and try very hard to post here daily, or at least as much as I can. I don't know exactly what I will put in here.. I imagine that will change over time. I might post my daily calories or maybe just how I feel. Maybe I'll document my goals and how I'm moving along with them. I figure if I just open up a reply every day and type whatever I want then something will come to me. Awareness is a big part of this journey so I guess that's about what it comes down to. Awareness of what I'm doing and accountability to you because I'm posting it where you can all read it if you want. Encouragement and kicks in the butt are appreciated, but not required! So, I guess that's about it for my journal introduction.... now onto the show!

If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution.
