a little male hummer sneaked in and got first call on the fresh feeder before the older male found out.
We have lots of parkland and open space where walk so I might be telling you about the feral turkeys or the peacocks. I have to transfer my pictures from my phone to here so I can show you the turkeys when the males are doing their " dancing?"

We didn't see the Eagles today, so we think they have moved on. We did see Red Tail Hawks, Turkey Buzzards. Nuttall's Woodpecker, Western Bluebird. Say's Phoebe. Ravens. Always lots of Ravens lol

I'm jealous. I haven't seen bald eagles in a few years. The latest spring arrivals this past week were the red wing black birds and the grackles. And about 30 turkeys came 2 weeks ago too. that's the most I've ever seen at one time. kim

First visit from a male Baltimore oriole yesterday and today. I put out the oriole feeder and some oranges and he really liked the oranges. Still hasn't sampled the oriole feeder yet. Seems a little timid. I also bought some orange jelly and he's eating that now. Cool! First time I've ever seen one! Another good day for gardening. Kim

We always see them from a distance in a field or at the top of our lawn usually in a small flock. That's the first time I've seen a wild one so close. She was very nervous but kept eating the corn. I wonder if she has a nest nearby. I was surprised to see her by herself. That's what made me think she might be nesting. kim

A small hawk or falcon swooped over my head on my walk yesterday! So cool! In terms of identifying it, really all I noticed was that it was a raptor and had the brown and white spotted undersides.
I've lived in MN my whole life, Kim, and we have lots of turkeys too, but I never saw them until two years ago. They are so big, how could I have missed seeing them before?

here and very cold. But I fed the birds and they are quite happily chirping around in the rain, eating. A female turkey dropped by my feeding area yesterday and had some corn and she stopped by again this morning right after I put the corn out. I wonder if she was watching me. She just appeared out of the brush both days. Pretty cool to see. Tracy took some pics of her so I will upload them later. kim

2 red tailed hawks came to visit this morning very close to my feeders. They grabbed a mouse or a chipmunk. I couldn't tell which. Stayed for about 5 minutes. One was huge, one was quite small. Male and female I suspect. kim

That's really cool Anya. I saw an Eastern Towhee today and I've had some cowbirds and grackles visit my feeders the past 2 weekends. Amazing to me every time I see a new bird I've never seen before. We used to see herons on the river up by our camp. Not sure what kind though. I think it was white. or maybe blue. I'll pay more attention now that I know more about birds. kim

I might have seen a Green Heron this morning or possibly the Pileated Woodpecker that's been hanging around. I basically saw it in silhouette as it was flying by, so I saw that it was crested. I didn't see any white markings that I would have expected if it was the Pileated. It had a clump of long dried grass in it's bill.

You can say that again. The finch feeders need filled up almost every day and that stuff is expensive. I noticed they spilled a lot on the ground but it looks like they also get down there and clean the ground up some too. When there's a whole flock of them anyway. We got snow overnight so I just have the regular visitors. kim

I have so many. My regulars include goldfinches, robins, juncos, chickadees, red bellied woodpeckers, downy woodpeckers, doves, sparrows, cardinals, blue jays, titmice, nuthatches, a few crows, starlings, lots of squirrels, chipmunks, brown creepers, and red wing blackbirds. We also regularly see wild turkeys but they don't come to the lower yard where my feeders are. Also saw a house finch a few times. Can't wait for the hummers. They should be coming back this week or next. I had my hummingbird feeder out but the sugar water froze so I brought it in for a few days. I'll put it back out in a day or 2. (southwestern PA here) kim

Just saw a Pileated Woodpecker on the telephone pole in my neighbors backyard! Very unusual, since I am in the heart of suburbia. We used to see these alot when I was growing up. We lived in an area that was not quite the country, but very woodsy.

Great sight to see Anya. The Scrub Jay came down for his food. Had a couple of Doves in the yard eating with the House Finch, and Sparrows. Yesterday I saw a Hummingbird.

We saw a red-tail hawk and a pair of bald eagles at Long Lake on sunday. The pair of eagles nest at Round Lake where I used to work, so I see them alot, but it never gets old!

It was perched very high up in the tree, so even though I got the binoculars out, all I could see was the white breast, striped eye, and gray around the edges. The info I read on other sites said they prefer open areas (not suburban, where I'm at) but they do winter here in MN. I wouldn't want them to eat my other birds, but they can have all the mice and voles they want!

Beautiful bird.. Check out this link, and see if it is the same bird call. Read the info on the bird. Looks so sweet, but it is mighty for it's size. www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Shrik e/id

Sat. was an interesting day. We had 2 Scrub Jay's at the feeder today. Were they hungry. Some House Finch showed up, and ate with the Sparrows. 2 Doves as well. When we took the dogs for a walk, there was a Mockingbird in he open desert. You usually don't see one there. On the way to the ranch there was a Hawk, and a lot of Ravens flying with it. A lot of Brewer Blackbirds today.

Hi Anna, Thank you for the link and information. I have looked up the bird and it is a Little Egret. They are apparently breeding at Chichester Harbour not too far from where I live. They are truly beautiful, but I did not have a camera with me. Its gone today. Ellen

Not many birds today since we are having T-Storms off and on. There was a Dove that kept cooing to me. I threw some corn out to it, but it just sat there and watched me. Had a few Sparrows, but that's it.

I love owls, but we don't get many round here now, although we are in a country area. We used to get a Tawny owl sitting on our roof, but it hasn't been there recently. The female blackbird was in the garden today.

The Brent geese have gone from the Lake. The Canada Geese have arrived. There were 2 Grebes fishing today. We fed the ducks and swans today and there is one duck that is blind in one eye. I have to feed him by hand or he doesn't get any food. He is really gentle and comes and stands very close to my feet now. He is so cute.

I love the Red Tailed Hawk. Years ago, my Hubby and I were driving past an open area of desert. We saw a Raven chasing a Red Tailed Hawk. The Raven was being a pest...Finally the Hawk could take no more. Turned around and started chasing the Raven. I never saw a Raven fly so fast lol.

The robins have been nesting near by in the garden somewhere. We saw them feeding babies. We are lucky, they are here all year. They get quite tame if you feed them mealworms. If we dig in the garden they always appear and get quite close. Ellen

We had lots of Brewer Blackbirds this week. I am so excited. I have seen them at the end of my street (I live on a looooong street), but rarely have I seen them in my yard. For some reason they have moved in. The House Finch still hasn't come back in numbers. I see one now and then, but that is it.

Oh, I know! My cat and I are fascinated by them, although for different reasons! He wants to eat them! I'm still working on identifying the different types of sparrows. We've got Chipping Sparrows, House Sparrows, and possibly Song Sparrows. I think I need to leave the book on the porch . . . .
