Roses are still doing pretty good here. Our Tomatoes are looking real iffy. We will be in the high 30's, then drop down to freezing a couple of days, then go back up. So not sure how much longer we will have Tomatoes. And there are a lot of green ones on the vine yet. It would be a shame to lose them all, but that is mother nature for you.

There are still lots of summer flowers here in peoples gardens which is surprising for this time of year. We are usually having heavy frosts by now! Have seen geraniums, fuschias, roses and other blooms. In my garden I still have a primrose in flower and calendula. My bell peppers are still growing in the greenhouse along with the cucumbers and there are strawberries slowly turning colour. The snails keep eating them though!

Its very hot here for this time of year! 26C today. Been gardening all morning. I have a Primrose blooming in the garden! Very unusual for this time of year. Its already bloomed once this year!

Well there have been lot of deer in the backyard ltely!!I hope they dont get too close because of the dogs they tend to want to chase them!So fr they have not botheed the garden at all though!I guess they dont like what I have planted?

Its ok I have even raised them so I know all about them!They are my very favorite !My GD started to become interested in school when they got a lot of the catapillars and hatched them out !That led to us collecting a bunch of eggs and hatching them ! It was a great exp. for all of us!I had them hanging all over my greenhouse/sunroom!

I'm thinking of moving the bird feeders to the backyard. The last 2 or 3 months the birds haven't been eating that much in the front yard. I think because the Falcon comes around now and then. Also there are two different cats that get into our yard and hunt for birds.

Our bluejays sound like they are screaming thief thief!!Its funny This morning when I got up had a bald eagle fly over the yard on its way to the lake (which is still froze) it was hunting for rabbit or what ever I guess!We have a lot of them here we are close to a 43,000 acre wildlife refuge!

No that is a long way from where I live I am in the northern part of the state.I bet its a sight we have a lot of them here as we are only about 7 miles from a 40,000 acre Wildlife Refuge and they were started there years ago and now there are a lot of them all over out here!!My little pond has a bunch every summer and so does the neighbors they seem to stay around all the time except when ice freezes until it thaws!

That will be nice when the fence is finished. We talked about getting Chickens once, but Sarge would grab it if one got lose. Where we board our horses, they are talking about getting Chickens. Maybe we can get some fresh eggs there, or throw in our own chicken or two!

Well they are gone Jeanne she came Sat and took them and the water tank so now all i have to worry about are the chickens they belong to both of us but they are at her place she left next door!We started to put in a fence here for mine but never got it finished before all the bad weather hit so as soon as the snow melts we will finish it and move them!I have about 20 that belong to me and they are all different breeds!

yes Jeanne it was nice the last few days but this weekend there is an Alberta Clipper coming in as they say!!I have had the water heater in the Horse tank for almost 3 months now.Think the daughter is going to come and get them tomorrow though so will get a break from the job of watering and feeding them for a while anyway!!YAY She will be moving them to where she lives for the rest of the winter now.Will be nice to have a break its cold feeding them in the middle of winter!!

I love the slowly falling snow in the amber yardlight next door as the horses munch their hay and the cats purr at my ankles!I try to can a few things every year but mostly I freeze a lot.Its wonderful to have in the dead of winter right now!Have some tomatoes and salza and pickles put away and some onions and apples are still in the back cold room.

It is truly a sad state when we forget the talents our forefathers taught us. My nieces over 20 years ago were in 4-H and won titles of 4-H queen because of their knowledge of canning and preserving. I was told then that it was considered a lost art! My oldest daughter and I can today and my other daughters freeze and dehydrate. Planning on new apricots, cherry,apple and pear trees this year as my dwarf orchard owes me nothing and is waining after producing for almost 30 years! I shall try the University of MN and Maine plus Canadian developed rootstock to insure they can indure Minnesota winters and I plan to try several varieties of blueberries as well!

I wonder if one of the reasons our forefathers, or rather mothers canned is because they wanted to capture a taste of summer for those cold winter nights when strawberries, cherries, rhubarb, and the taste of fresh corn, tomatoes and delicious herbs were not available.

Ruth miss hearing from you bet you are very busy now!!I saw the neatest thing this afternoon in my back yard! I had cleaned all the old vines up in the garden and raked them in 3 piles I was a little ways away picking dead grass out of the flower bed when a wind blew in and made a mini tornadoe,it picked up one of the piles of stuff and carried it opver and threw it in the pasture!!LOL it was so cool it then proceded to move through the woods picking up leaves and stuff and tossing it everywhere as it went then it was out of sight !What I wouldnt have given to catch that on video!

What a difference a month makes and it looks like an early spring here in Minnesota for a change we have not had one in over a decade now so am really looking forward to a great April.Our first big snow that dumpted 8 in was the beginning of Oct. so it can just stay warm now.I am finally getting a handle on the yard cleaning and the tulips and daffodils are coming up now!YAY

fishing sounds good!I always say I dont need to camp I live it!Ha we are pretty out in the back country here though!Ouch what a nasty drive I hate having to drive in the winter it is just too scarry !!Hope you do not have to do that again!Say the dd ckns have been dying about 4 in the last week???Any ideas?? I googled and there are 140 different diseases???Is there anything they are not getting we feed cracked corn only.Advice would be greatly appreciated!Xo

I stayed home from work because I have just about had enough of driving everyday in these horrible conditions. Last night on my way home from work I had to drive on the opposite side of the road because they pulled the snow plows off and the drifts were clear across the highway. I only drive a little Chevy Malibu so it was pretty scary. It was starting to get dark and I couldn't tell if what I saw was a big drift or the snow blowing across the highway. I got right on it and it was to late to back off so I gunned it through and the drift came clear up to my windows on my little car!!!! I was scared to death but that little car made it through! My nerves have been shot so I played hooky today and darn glad I did! Boy this winter has been just horrible! I am ready to go fishing and camping how about you?

We are getting the same here and supposed to snow clear into tomorrow possibly Wednesday. High winds tomorrow calling for blizzard conditions. Temps aren't to bad in the 20s. Speaking of bird feeders I was just saying I better get my hiney out and get them filled. You can always tell what the weather is planning by the feathered visitors at my Smorgasbord! We were lucky that our lane didn't blow in because all of our snow removal equipment are on the fritz. Thank God for 4X4 pickup to break a path! Very cold temps since that blizzard.Most mornings are subzero and in the single digits during the day. Supposed to warm up this weekend but now they are threatening us with freezing drizzle. Awwwww such is the midwest eh? LOL!

how did you make out with that storm ? Hope it was not tooo bad?We got no new snow but the temps have been nasty!It froze the lakes in 4 days and ice fishing has officially started here!I had my second fish dinner tonight Yummy!I will now be an ice fishing widow for the next 2 1/2 months !LOL LOL

It is dumping on us big time tonight! We probably have 6 or 8 inches on the ground and it is really snowing hard and starting to blow. They are calling for blizzard conditions through tomorrow so it maybe a day of monopoly at the old ranch here tomorrow LOL!

Yes you do I have already had to drive home 20 miles through an early October Snowstorm that dumpted 9 in on us!!!That was scary very slippery just cold enough to be dangerous!!We missed the big storm today to the south of us are you in that one??

I knew I should have shut my mouth about the snow LOLOL! It caught up to us....maybe an inch. But the ground is white and it is very cold here as well! We live in the Des Moines River valley so we have big hills to climb on our roads too. You learn to get brave fast on the ice don't you?

owwww just saw a flock heading south last night they better get out right now its tooooo cold in the single digits this weekend!YUKKKKKK no we did not get away with no snow got a couple in. in the last week just enough to make the driveways a little slippery.We are at the bottom of a big hill that is always a problem in the winter.Glad to hear you have escaped it Ruth!!

I just noticed your from Minnesota...I am from NorthCentral Iowa. Are you getting snow up there yet? We have dodged the bullet down here...it has been pretty mild so far!
