Oh, so you will still be getting both chemo and radiation. Sounds like your bases are covered. It also sounds like you trust your doctor too which is great.

I think this communication thing w/the doctors is difficult for most of us in one way or another. I've just spent the afternoon off and on talking to doctors through the email and on the phone. I know they are looking after my best interests but it does get a little intimidating for me too. (and I'm not easily intimidated!) There's just something about this relationship! What is it?

Anyway, you are NOT whining OK? You've raised some very valid questions and concerns.

That's my 2 cents worth,

Well I was only scheduled for 4 Chemo treatments as I am also taking Xeloda a Chemo drug. So I will be getting Radiation and chemo, but the chemo will be in pilll form.

My Dr cares about what happens that is why he called me, doesn't want me to give up and I will not....so that being said and knowing that this is precautionary and understandly so, I will follow his orders, and he cares a lot, one of the best Cancer Oncologists here.

You all are so sweet and caring, and honestly I am given the best care, this is all new to me, and they lead me thru each and everyone new turn, I quess I didin't explain that what with me whining :-( I am sorry.

Hi there Mystymane,
So, based on your post they are discontinuing the chemo and keeping the radiation? What do you think of your doctor's explanation for doing this? Does it make sense to you? If he follows this protocol can he modify it so that you will not get another UTI?

(Don't worry about the length of your message - please feel free to share w/us - we really do care!)

Mysty,

I want you to know that your doctor is not "all seeing, and all knowing". It sounds to me like he doesn't have a very good rapport with you. The one thing I learned with my bouts with cancer is that you have the right, and deserve, to have a doctor who is willing to PATIENTLY listen to you and allow you to have a say in the path of your medical treatments, or help you to find resolution for the obstacles you are facing.

With that being said, if there is not 100% trust in the person who you are allowing to help save your life, then I would strongly advise you to seek out second and even third opinions. Finding that one doctor who listens, who cares and who doesn't treat via the cook book method (one protocol fits most), and who treats you as an individual... this is not an easy task, but it is a task that is well worth the fight.

I have to tell you, I would look in another direction for cancer care. I will not tolerate a doctor who is not compassionate or open-minded. The best thing you can do for yourself is get educated about your cancer type. Learn the lingo, and go loaded for bear when you "interview" the doctors. While you may find another doctor who treats with the same protocol, you may also find one who is compassionate without the God complex and who is willing to go to great lengths to maintain your physical comfort and current quality of life. They have medications to offset side effects and for me, there is no reason they shouldn't be utilizing them to keep you comfortable thru this tough time. If the shoe was on their foot, they would expect no less.

Peace be with you, and may God lead you in a path that leads to a doctor who will fit your needs.

Hi everyone, well as you all know the Radiation has given me fits, to say the least. My Dr. called me today as I had been contemplating stopping the Radiation, but he talked to me and he is stopping the Chemo, I am still taking Xeloda (Pill), and said to make sure the image that was near my lymph node is gone to finish up Radiation, it is best for me, and he said it could come back, and I do not need that.

Sorry for the long message, but had to tell someone.
