Good idea. And I love those new LED candles with a timer---the pillar ones do look like real ones---esp. good if you have pets or small children.

THIS ONE I DID CAN BE USED FOR THANKSGIVING. JUST USE A YELLOW OR ORANGE CANDLE AND BOW, THEN CHANGE TO RED OR WHITE FOR CHRISTMAS....

Bet it is pretty, Joy, looking forward to the picture. Dusty miller for the white?
I am getting antsy to start decorating so I really need to start cleaning so I am ready to go.
Does anyone do a centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner?

JUST BE SURE YOU GET OASIS, NOT THE FOAM FOR ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS! SOAK A BLOCK OF IT IN LUKEWARM WATER FOR A LITTLE WHILE, PUT IT IN THE BASKET, ON PLASTIC OR FOIL, AND PUT THE GREENS IN IT. EVERY COUPLE DAYS, POUR A LITTLE WATER ON THE OASIS, OR IN THE CONTAINER IT'S IN, SPRAY THE GREENS AND THEY SHOULD DO QUITE WELL.

I DID MY BIG WREATH TODAY USING BOXWOOD, HOLLY AND DUSTY MILLER. NEED TO GET IT FINISHED, THEN WILL POST A PICTURE. LEFT IT IN THE CAR FOR TONIGHT AS IT'S COOL OUT THERE, AND A FUZZY ANIMAL IN HERE MIGHT TEAR IT APART. WANT TO HAVE IT IN HERE WHEN I CAN WATCH HIM A LITTLE TO SEE IF HE'S GOING TO BOTHER IT.

Any where you can buy craft stuff, even fake flowers usually has that foam---or even going to a florist---can buy it at Michael's , Hobby Lobby, AC Moore---might even check Lowe's and Home Depot in their plant section.

JOY I LIKE THE PINE BRANCHES IN A BASKET IDEA. WE BURN WOOD SO IT GETS REALLY DRY IN HERE. I WONDER WHERE I COULD GET THOSE STYROFOAM SPONGE THINGS THAT I COULD CRAM THE ENDS INTO AND KEEP THEM MOIST THAT WAY. BECAUSE AS LONG AS THEY DON'T DRY OUT YOU CAN BEND THEM JUST TO CRACK AND THEY WILL START SMELLING AGAIN.

I KNOW BACK IN THE DAY WHEN I USED REAL TREES I HAD TROUBLE KEEPING THEM FROM DRYING OUT EVEN THOUGH I RECUT THE BOTTOM BEFORE PUTTING THEM IN THE STAND. SO I WOULD TAKE A DRILL AND DRILL SEVERAL HOLES IN THE SIDE BELOW THE WATER LEVEL SO THEY COULD SUCK MORE WATER. IT HELPED A LOT.

I want us to start putting things out, too. I need to look up boxwood so I know what I am looking for---LOL
I do find those command hooks to be very useful in the house for putting different things up for the holidays---and often leave them up as I use them for other things too. I think a neat thing to do is put some old Christmas decorations on ribbon and hang them on the curtain rods---I keep meaning to do that but always forget or don't have the time, but with Thanksgiving so early, hoping I get that done this year. Also, those big plastic snowflakes at the dollar stores, I put them on the ledge of my windows---usually the top half---and they look very nice from the outside, even when the curtains are closed. They also would look nice on trees outside if you hang them with fishing line.

AHHHHHHKKKJKKKJ! I HAD A NICE LONG POST DONE, AND IT WOULDN'T POST, SO LORD KNOWS WHERE IT IS,
ANYHOW, I PICK AS MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF PINE AS I CAN, ADD SOME HOLLY AND BOXWOOD, AND SOAK IT IN A BUCKET OF WATER FOR A DAY OR TWO. LINE A PRETTY BASKET WITH PLASTIC OR FOIL, JUST IN CASE. ARRANGE THE GREENS IN THE BASKET AND ADD A PRETTY BIG BOW ON THE BASKET. SPRITZ WITH A SPRAY BOTTLE EVERY DAY TO HELP KEEP THEM FREST. SCENT WILL LAST FOR DAYS, GREEENS WILL LAST FOR A FEW WEEKS. IF YOU CAN SET THE BASKET OUT WHERE IT'S COOL IN THE EVENING, GUESS IT HELPS TOO, BUT I JUST KEEP MINE IN HERE FOR LIKE A MONTH. ANOTHER THING I DO, IS CUT A NICE SHAPED BRANCH OF PINE, TIE SOME HOLLY OR BOXWOOD TO THE CUT END, ARRANGE OVER THE PINE SO IT LOOKS NICE, ADD A BIG BOW AND HANG IT ON THE WALL NEAR THE TREE. NO MESS, NO FUSS, AND NO EXPENSE....

HOPE TO DO MY FENCE IN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO, BUT IT DEPENDS ON IF I'M HEADING FOR CINCINATTI ON FRIDAY OR NOT. HAVE AMEETING TOMORROW, SO IT WOULD JUST LEAVE ME THURSDAY TO DO IT. HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE.....

Joy I like your idea of bringing in fresh cut pine for the smell. It beats the green tree car freshner I was thinking of hanging. LOL

Actually, it is not that bad---esp. since we are slowly replacing a lot of light strings with LED---actually less than a summer ac bill---and we only run them til 9 at night until it gets closer to Christmas.

Wilson, there is a video blog on my page of our first Christmas in the house with the lights and the music---and hope to do another one this year if I get a newer computer.
Have one more flower bed to pull up the flowers in and then we can start putting out Christmas stuff---hoping maybe we will start this week as Thanksgiving is next week.

I LIKE HOLLY AND BOXWOOD, AND IF YOU DO YOUR WREATH OR WHATEVER IN OASIS, AND KEEP IT WATERED, ANY KIND OF PINE WILL LAST FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. I LIKE TO CUT A MIXED BASKET FULL, AND BRING IT IN THE HOUSE, JUST FOR THE WONDERFUL PINE SCENT...

Do you have favorite greenery that is long lasting for the Christmas holidays?

I have some kind of evergreen with small cones that I'll be able to prune a small amount at the house in NC. But I'm not sure what else might be available. I'm north of Murphy and south of Ashville up there. Sorry. Don't know the zone. Elevation is around 2200 feet.

I got some at a good price last year, and am hoping to replace some more this year. Still like the really cheap ones for the fence as they get hit with slush, chunks of ice, snow, etc. and if a string is out and I can't find the reason easily, out they go. Usually it's a broken bulb, which I can replace. Trying to go led in the house and on the porch tho.

WE have noticed that the price of LED lights have gone down quite a bit---and they do help save on the Christmas electric bill with just having part of ours LED---we figure we will replace them a little at a time.

I thought about putting up my autumn decorations on the porch today, but it's raining, so I'm not going to do it. Supposed to have some nice weather for the next few, so maybe Friday I can get it done. Have a flower show tomorrow, so I'll be gone all day. Wish I could come up with an idea for mine... have the greens and flowers, just no container and no ideas....

I bet they are pretty.
Does anyone use those fake candles that light up---I actually like them for putting places that an open flame would be a problem. And I have one that is on a timer that provides a nice night light in the dining room in its holder.

I use the light weight copper, brass & aluminim sheets that you can get at the various craft stores to make 3D barn stars. I also use it to make votive candle surrounds. I punch various designs according to the season into the metal then make a cylendar out of it and can place a votive candle or lights inside it.

We put on quite a display---I actually have a video of our first Christmas at this house---we have the lights dancing to music---thanks to my talented son---but we change things up every year.
Has anyone ever used the command hooks outside and do they hold up out there-?--that would be so much nicer than nails or hooks if they would invent ones for outside temps. I am looking forward to decorating my porch this year as the boys rescreened it and put a new support beam and also a deeper ledge where the trim is---so looking and thinking of ideas for that area.

Around here, you'd better get your outside Christmas decorations up on a nice day in November, or you'll either be out there at 20 below with 3 feet of snow, or there will be no decorations! Last year all I got up was the greens and lights on the fence, but that's because that same day is the day I fell and broke my shoulder.....
