Dear All--just wanted to say I've been thinking about you all! Life just gets crazier, but I'm happy to say that my running 1-month average step count (thanks to my Striiv pedometer for calculating) is now over 10500 steps per day, and has been for at least a couple of months.
I hope you all are well! Participating in this topic helped me through some really tough times, and it has largely gotten me where I am today, even if it took me a while to get here. The stress has only gotten higher in my life, but my step counts still motivate me to keep moving, even if I haven't been reporting in to all of you.
All the best,
Hi Michele! Good to see you! I haven't been counting steps as it was just one more thing to do these days. I also started a new weight loss plan through a Nutritionist and I have to be careful how much I do right now. I'm down 60 lb. since the first part of October!
Time Zone: Mountain
Happy New Year, Janet, Ann, and whoever else stops by!
Just a quick note to say I was thinking of you all--I can't believe that I just dropped off the face of the Earth in September and this is my first visit back. I ended up with 97% of my goal for the year, 3.4M steps out of my goal of 3.5M--not so bad.
I'm still keeping track of my steps, though I'm starting to rely more on the running average number of steps per day provided by my Striiv pedometer since I just don't seem to keep up with daily reporting now that my baby has become a moving (running!), talking toddler. (Doing great, just into _everything_!)
I'm going to record steps here for a little while, just in case we get a reboot going (I think the website has started me off again as a new member--it was offering me the points for completing new member orientation again!)
Jan 1: 7291
Jan 2: 8076
Jan 3: 7885
Jan 4: 5432
January steps so far: 28684
Not so great, but thankfully not because anyone was sick--just mostly housebound with nasty cold weather. I get back in the office full time tomorrow, so I'm hoping the numbers will pick up.
Sept 1: not tracking -- rest day
Time Zone: Mountain
Hi Janet! Who knew that a pedometer battery could be so exciting, right?
I'm still not doing so well with reporting every Monday, but I'm going to keep at it! I got kind of exciting that I was getting some big daily counts in the last week or two (kind of like the ones Ann gets!) as my youngest has gotten very enthusiastic about going out for walks in the stroller. Unfortunately, he came down with some sort of bug this weekend, so I'm back down to lower counts...
So here's my catchup for August, so I can start with a clean slate for September:
Aug 16-22: 67560 steps
Aug 23-29: 79466 steps (more than an average 10K/day--here's the stroller walking!)
Aug 30: 10524
Aug 31: 6379
Total steps for August: 283740
Here's to renewing my goal of weekly reporting! I hope to see you around here as your schedule allows, Janet!
Got a new battery for the pedometer!
Time Zone: Mountain
Hey there! Busy as usual. LOL Hope those Monday's turn out to be a good day for you!
Time Zone: Mountain
Ann--still not reporting weekly myself, but have been thinking of you--this fall, my teaching schedule works out to give me the most time for class prep on Mondays, with all of my teaching for the rest of the week. I may even like Mondays for once!
Aug 1-15: 122164
Still behind my 10K/day desired pace, but my little guy is getting more mobile and independent, so I'm hoping this means I'll start moving around more, even at home! (Of course, this independence caused him to flip over the handlebars of his little kiddy vehicle and onto his face this weekend, so I guess I should be careful what I wish for...)
Hope all is well with you, Ann! (And with you too, Janet!)
Hi Janet! It's great to hear from you, but I'm sorry to hear about your knee! Hope you get back in the groove soon, pedometer or not.
Time just keeps getting away from me! Time to finish up with July, and try to make a better start for August:
July 21-31: 97661
Total steps for July: 264632
Not my best, not my worst; I'm starting to fall behind after being reasonably close to target at the end of the first half of the year. Gotta pick up the pace soon, but that shouldn't be too hard in the near future--I start teaching again in about a month, at the end of August!
Hi you two! I keep planning to get the pedometer working again for myself, but since injuring my knee (thankfully just muscles and tendons) in November and then again in June I have not been able to do much in the way of formal exercise as it still aches so much. I've been seeing a doctor (chiropractor/kinesthetic/naturopathic) since the end of June and he's been busy getting things working again, but that in itself is painful.
Hope things are going well for you!
Time Zone: Mountain
Missed my window last week--we took a minivacation Sun-Wed, and it's taken me the rest of the week to even resemble getting back on track!
Jul 8-14 (7 days): 55328 steps
Jul 15: 8253
Jul 16: 14039 (actually while on vacation--due to a kid's activity at the lodge!)
Jul 17: 7532
Jul 18: 7826 (back to work!)
Jul 19: 8430
Jul 20: 7223
July steps so far: 166971
More than 3 days behind my target steps per day, but I've been having fun with my family this week, so I guess I shouldn't complain. :)
Hope all is well with you, Ann!
Okay, it's been a week--time to catch up!
My June total: 277174 steps
My July start:
July steps so far: 58340
Monday (7/1) was a great way to start July, and then my little guy came home from daycare with a fever of 102! Turns out the ear infection from late June recurred, and he had a virus to boot. So he was home with me for the rest of the week, antibiotics and all the rest. Not fun.
Upside: did lots of catchup on the junk mail and other clutter in the house during his 2-3 hour long naps. So not as many steps as I would have liked, and a little stir crazy by the time he went back to daycare today, but at least the house is a little less of a mess. Hope your week was all right, Ann!
Okay, so my June total was 277174 steps--turns out I had a number of 11K-13K days to help balance the weekend days that always seem to be around 6K-7K! My tally so far says that in the first half of the year I have reached 0.49 of my annual goal, so I guess I'm not so far off!
See you sometime in a week or so!
I was very happy to see your post--and you can see that I didn't end up posting in June at all either! I'm in for checking in weekly too, and I'll post my June total here soon, maybe tonight. And 463K+ steps for June--that's great, Ann!
I'm glad to hear that troubles at home are subsiding--I didn't want to pry, but I have been thinking of you lots lately and hoping you were okay. And sometimes the drama is just bigger when it involves our kids, and you need time to sort things out, for them and for you. I hope things continue to improve.
And who knows, maybe if I'm checking in with you weekly, you might just get me to like Mondays!
All the best,
I really liked your suggestions on how to reinvigorate this chat, but then never managed to do anything the whole month of June anyway! But my son's drama is subsiding and I think things will be better for me now. And I had a great June -- at a total of 463,220 steps, that is the first month all year I've exceeded my monthly goal. My next weigh-in date is July 12 -- I put it way off because I've been pretty bad about following a good eating plan for a pretty long time now. But excuses are behind me and I'm jazzed again. Might even attend the St. Louis Spark meet-up later this month!
Hope you are well and have plans for a wonderful 4th. I'll be checking at least weekly for July -- that's another goal from here.
And to finish off May:
May 31: 10655 steps
Total steps in May: 296809
More in a day or a few--it's really late here right now!
I agree we haven't been too chatty lately--is life altogether too much for us both, or maybe we just need something new to get us invigorated to check in more often? What about this--what if we aim to check in once a week, and celebrate our biggest triumph and commiserate on our weakest point of the week? It could be anything-- really high/low step counts, changes in exercise patterns or other healthy habits, etc., and then we can check in with our step count numbers as well. Or is that too complicated (or painful)? Should we just aim for a new virtual meeting place and start counting?
May step counts:
May 1-10: 100939 steps
May 11-20: 91422 steps
May 21-30: 93793 steps
Total May steps so far: 286,154
And I _will_ report the end-of-May numbers before another whole month has passed by!
Edited by: ANWEN_RIDER at: 5/31/2013 (00:00)
Well, my April total wound up at 329,385, which is almost 100,000 steps behind my goal.
There has been a lot of drama in my life of late so May hasn't been much better. My May total right now is 326,186, and I actually had a day last week that was over 30,000 steps -- I think that was my first time to do that, ever. So obviously most of the rest of the month was average to below average. I'm on an upswing now, though, and hope all is well with whoever else is reading this!! We're not very chatty any more, it appears.
Apparently April was crazy for me too, Ann--it looks like I haven't been here at all in April!
4/1-4/7: 65071 steps
4/8-4/14: 60603 steps
4/15-4/21: 64872 steps
4/22-4/28: 68897 steps
Total April steps: 282314
May startup numbers tonight! Hope all is well with you, Ann!
Weird -- I could swear I have posted in april but don't see anything.
So here is the month so far.
entered a 5K yesterday which helped!
april steps 245,801
2013 steps 1,282,270
at this rate I will end the year at 4.2M or so, which is a MILLION steps behind goal. Ouch.
Here are the last two days of March (not so impressive, but there it is):
March steps total: 276000
Onward to April--my first day is already looking better!
Those look like good numbers to me, Michele, especially with all you have on your plate. Hang in there!
March steps 282,159
2013 steps 1,017,756
Hi Ann and Janet!
Sorry to leave you hanging, Ann--rounded out my students' spring break week with the baby catching some nasty stomach flu, and all my catching-up time turned into continous laundry time to deal with all of the...output, shall we say. So now I'm back to being behind. With only 4 weeks left of the regular semester, I'm just gonna keep my head above water for the rest of the time.
March has been a so-so stepping month--some good days, but mostly a little behind. Here's a quick summary:
March 9-15 (1 week): 62185
March 16-22 (1 week): 61176
March 23-29 (1 week): 63527
So you can see that I'm consistently a little behind my goal of 10K/day. Dreaming of warmer days and the end of the semester, as I continually pine for conditions that make it easier to get more steps in!
Yikes. Lazy spring break and now I am so far behind for March that there's no possibility of catching up. Oh well, there's always April.
March steps 278,857
2013 steps 1,014,454
March steps 144,914
2013 steps 880,511
Hi ladies! Have some free minutes tonight so I'm stopping by some places I rarely get to anymore! Still not wearing my pedometer....
Time Zone: Mountain
Okay, and here's my start for March:
3/1 10000 (estimate)
March steps so far: 74155
My students have spring break this week, so I hope to be checking in with you more frequently, Ann!
Wow, already a week into March and I haven't even finished accounting for February!
2/23: 6000 (estimate)
2/28 10000 (estimate)
February total steps: 272176
I'm having to adjust to the record keeping of my new pedometer--it only keeps the actual count number for the current day and the previous 4, so if you don't keep track of things you can miss one that falls off the list. But it also keeps a month-long record as a bar chart, so my estimates are pretty good.
I am determined to do better in March but am not off to a good start.
March steps 29,736
2013 steps 765,333
Closed out February with a whimper:
Total for the month 294,637, which is only 73% of goal (over a week behind).
Those are good numbers!
I am all over the place and not eating right, either. Not getting near a scale until Friday.
February steps 241,104
2013 steps 682,064
Wow, where have the days gone? With my new pedometer, I'm doing better on average. But you can see my biggest problem is the weekends--with this unpleasant weather and a baby that wants to be carried around all the time, I just don't get very good step counts. Dreaming of spring now...
Feb. steps so far: 216169 (only a half-day behind now!)
February steps 185,630
2013 steps 626,590
And just a little more catch-up:
Feb Steps so far: 89442 (now a full day behind...)
I'm with you, Ann--where has my spark gone?
Feb steps so far: 74873 (Grrr, already behind the mark)
Just not feelin' it.
February steps 96,408
2013 steps 537,368
Worst week so far, at 77,636. Gained a pound, too. :(
Too icy to walk again today so I'm going to make a major point of staying away from Super Bowl chili!
I took my son to Pittsburgh on 12/30 to see a Steelers game ... you Pennsylvania folks definitely have it colder & snowier than we do, but St. Louis is hands down the worst place I have ever lived for ICE.
I'm in rural central PA, Ann--in Lewisburg, about an hour's drive north of Harrisburg. This year has had some warm days, but in the last week or so, we've gotten down to 5F, and even when it is warmer (like 19F) the wind has been blowing and creating such cold conditions that it might as well be 5F. Yesterday I got one of those "brain freeze" headaches that you get from eating ice cream too fast, just by walking in the wind!
Finishing out January:
Total January steps: 310503
Where do you live, Michele?
I'm in St. Louis, MO. We've had a pretty mild winter so far but this morning was so cold & icy that Albert and I turned back after less than half a mile -- just didn't want to risk falling down. But I don't mind the treadmill and so I've hit my goal steps for the day already, happy to say.
Missed it for the week, though:
26-Jan 15516 ... total 92,018 instead of 100K!
January steps 379,697
It has been bitter cold here for the last week, but I'm proud to say that even though I'm taking the car more places that I would normally walk, I am also still mostly staying above my 10K/day target (at least in overall average)!
January steps so far: 257430
Hope you're keeping warm out your way, Ann!
Not bad, but missed my goal for the week by 1631.
January steps 287679
January steps so far: 193575
Nice dog walking steps, Ann! With the cold, icy conditions around here, I've exchanged biking to daycare with walking, so more of the exercise is showing up in my stepping. Sorry it's been awhile since I've been here, but things have been a little zany as we try to figure out how to make the spring schedule work for everyone.
January steps so far: 132482
Weekends are still difficult with the yucky weather--lots of time cooped up with the baby and not much exercise being had!
January steps 208,619
Walking my dog at night is really helping!!
Nothing wrong with the same goal each year if it is one you want to achieve!
Time Zone: Mountain
At this rate I will hit 5.9M by the end of the year. Those New Year's resolutions are really something!
First round in 2013--already bodes well!
January total so far: 29428 steps
Ugh, didn't really feel right until today, day 10 of a 10-day stint of antibiotics--never before has it taken me so long to feel the benefits!
Last 2012 entry:
Total December steps: 204633
That puts me at 2.1M, or about 61% of my annual goal of 3.5M.
I'll post my January start in the next post, but suffice it to say here that I will keep the same annual goal for 2013.
Finished up December with a total of 376,954, which was finally a month I went over my goal (12,000 steps/day).
So that means 2012 ended with 4,045,810, 92% of where I wanted to be (4,392,000).
That is my worst year since I started my crazy spreadsheet back in 2009. :(
My new goal for 2013 is to hit 100,000 steps a week, which is 14,286 steps a day.
I'm off to a good start:
Happy New Year, everybody! Wishing all of you health & prosperity. Michele, being 20 is overrated anyway. No worries.
Sllooowly feeling better, with 5 days of antibiotics in me. I'm disappointed that it takes me this long to recover from anything--guess I'm not 20 anymore. :)
December steps so far: 197772
Looking forward to seeing you around when you decide you're ready, Janet--thanks for stopping by!
Happy New Year, everyone!
Hi ladies! Thought I'd stop in and say hi! I still have not picked up my pedometer, but I've been keeping the gym scene going.
Sorry to hear of the illnesses... we've had some hit us too. I was thankful not to get the hubbies stomach virus that he had last week just in time for his company party. He went...chills and all...didn't want to disappoint the kids from seeing Santa!
Time Zone: Mountain
This is the "taking the good with the bad" entry--got a new, fun pedometer for Christmas (Striiv!), but finally went to see Dr. today and get antibiotics for the sinus infection which has resulted from the last three weeks of being sick. Christmas day was not my best, though ibuprofen helped until I could see the doc today.
12/25 2005 (old)+3375 (new)=5380
December steps so far: 160775
Got snow today (yay!) followed by ice pellets (boo!), but at least true winter weather; I've been wondering if we would ever get any.
...and then last week was the baby's turn for another round at being sick. I think he and I managed to get the same thing, so now we are recovering from a hacking cough as we try to get the last dredges of goop out of our lungs, it seems. Hmmm, that was probably a little too graphic, right?
Well, at least we're finally starting to get our Christmas shopping done, though I think Christmas cards will turn into New Year's cards this year! (If we're lucky, and I'm diligent...hmmm)
12/13 9451 (ooh, so close to goal!)
December steps so far: 126438
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you--Ann, Janet, and all the rest! I'll be thinking of you and sending you mental spark encouragement as we head into these challenging holiday weeks!
Most ofl my steps this week have been SHOPPING rather than actual exercise. Poor Albert didn't even get a walk this morning, and it's his birthday! Gotta get back in gear. Only two more days of work for 2012!
December steps 237,947
2012 steps 3,906,803
I'm sending you early wishes for a Happy and HEALTHY New Year!
Hang in there!
December steps 205,662
2012 steps 3,874,518
Nice step numbers, Ann! Just to make things fun, my older son, hubbie, and I all had a round of stomach flu last week--yes, that makes about 6 weeks of rampant illness in this house. So my step numbers are still pretty low, but heck, I'm happy just to be able to be on my feet at all these days...
December steps so far: 64016
9-Dec 25,044 (not sure how THAT happened!)
December steps 130,974
2012 steps 3,799,830
ended November with 346,413, just over a day behind my goal.
But December is off to a good start:
December steps 30,236
2012 steps 3,699,092
Finally made it through the week--never stopped moving (at least for work, though it didn't always pan out into real exercise!)
11/30 10206 (finally!)
November total: 217170 (Yay, I broke 200K, even if not by much!)
Agree -- Monday was a complete drag. Glad to have a job, though.
November steps 333,613
2012 steps 3,656,056
Not going to hit 4M for the year if I don't change something soon. :(
Just one more week of all-out craziness and then my students go into finals and things can slow down a bit--at least until they take _my_ final! :)
11/24: 3826 (both I and hubby started coughing like crazy--hard to have much energy)
Nov. steps so far: 173630
Today was my first day back in the office after a 4-day weekend--man, I'm exhausted! Hope you had a great Monday, Ann!
November steps 301,750
2012 steps 3,624,193
Thanks, Ann--the vibes of support mean a lot! And wow, you _are_ back to your steppy self!
Nice step counts!
