Got the kitchen done and found somethings that could got to charity...bought a new area rug for diningroom so we did the "spring" cleaning there and laid down new rug and broke it in today with dinner guest!! :)

I know this sounds weird ...but I do "spring cleaning" 4 times a year. I do the regular house cleaning everyday and on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th month, I do serious deep cleaning. I have a daughter who was diagnosed with severe chronic asthma when she was 2 1/2 yrs old (we almost lost her and had to move from our town, the pollution from Owens dry lakebed was the cause)....so now we live near Palm Springs, CA and the occasionally get hard windstorms. So that's why I do harsh cleaning. So I started the challenge 2 wks early so I can do this with everyone here.
Today I did the livingroom (moved furniture, dusted everything, vacuumed hard floor, and Shark steamed it, shampooed the area rug, and dusted and treated the wood blinds) started on the kitchen (cupboards, rearrange, get rid of items not needed, and vacuum any dust or crumbs, and wiped down) will continue there tomorrow...then on to the exercising room!!

Sounds like everyone is getting some much needed things tended too. Good for all of us. lol
Red, sorry about the car problems. It seems like everytime, you might get ahead a little, or maybe splurge a bit, something turns up.
As for me, hubby found out that we had an outside faucet leaking, inside the house, after he turned it on,this year. Oh what fun to find out that stuff, not. Yea, another good place for that stimulas check to go . The good thing is that hubby thinks he can fix it, and not be too bad. I'm thankful for that. I'm also thankful that I don't have carpet in the lower level, so was able to mop the water up. It did have carpet ,but it was worn out, and we had replaced it.
Heard that the pollen count was extremely high here past couple of days. Yea, the stuff was all over everybody's cars. Allergy season for sure.

Lets see...second car broke down..first one $159, second will be $300..there goes the stimulus check that somewhere down the line we gave tax money to get..ha! Anyway, i have cleaned out my closet, vacuumed 2 rooms downstairs, dusted most of LR..still have some to finish up tomorrow(tops of tall pieces of furniture)..rearranged the living room to a more pleasing arrangement, cleaned all pet areas,..that just about does it so far. If it does not rain tomorrow i may try to fit in a walk..after taking mom to the eye doctor that is. the day after that is her birthday..so nothing will be done then either except eating!lol I have a huge list, and you guys are right..this got me off my duff and doing things i had put off for a long time..and hubby is healthier for it as well, as he is allergic to house dust(among other things..like swamp palms!)

I'm uncluttering my living room and kitchen today. You wouldn't believe how much stuff (junk mail, things my Grand Kids left, and other) has piled up. I'm taking my time but I will have it all gone today. Tomorrow I believe I will go through the dressers and closets. That's a big job. Checking to see what fits, what doesn't, how many of my husbands clothes have stains that won't come out. all of it will be dealt with.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure but I think that the counter depth fridge is harder to find. Might have to be a special order. Of course, it could depend on where you live. I'm not sure what you can do about your wood floors, but you might could ask someone, that sells them. A little free help advice wouldn't hurt them ,or tell you where you can get help about it. Good luck on getting those floors saved.
I'm going to be cleaning window blinds, and washing curtains. Finish giving my and hubby's bedroom a thorough cleaning. Closet is same as done, thank goodness. I'm going to check out some of my clothes to see if any needs to get the boot. lol
Hope everyone has a great week!
We are suppose to have nice weather here, at least, until Tuesday. Went for a short walk outside today, just nothing to brag about. I was glad that I did it, though. I thought it would be easier because of working out at the gym, but wasn't. Really need to get in better shape.

I am still concerned about my wooden floors - the flooding gave more challenge than the icemaker line's failure. I need to dry out the floor from underneath, as it still "curls" at the edges; and several humps have not flattened. In my marathon errands I noticed a new "opening" - an appliance outlet that had Fisher-Paykel fridges that were of the proper height for my cabinets (but I am still looking for counter depth, in addition -- !)

To SHARON_AHAUS :
Dryers seem to last into the next millenium; at least in my experience. I got my first one from mother-in-law, who wanted an upgrade; used that for 20 years and got one new motor or maybe a drive belt - (additional family was living with us then); later gave it to daughter who needed it; ( it is still working just fine) then another used one to another daughter after 15 years use - at which time I found a "disabled" Bosch apartment model; stackable version; at a warehouse sale for $100 US and replaced its missing units for chump change; it is a smaller size but nevertheless does great work. Dryers seem to be durable if you keep the filter clean and your washer is able to spin properly.

It's not only the fridge that has changed size. I've noticed the washing machines, and clothes dryers have too. I'm not sure how much longer the dryer will hold out. Hoping for quite a spell. lol They fit inside of a closet in the lower level, and all sizes will not fit in there next to the water heater.
I'm going to be planting my minature rose bush ,this week end. I want to buy some annual flowers to put out ,too, but it's a bit early. Around Mother's Day ,though, it will be okay to plant everything. I love pretty flowers, and nature.
I've got a good start on spring cleaning, but I'll probably still be at it ,when this challenge is over. lol
This challenge did help motivate me into getting started on things that I've been putting off for too long.

Good for you, adding a walk on a busy day, "just because". Yesterday I had an errand marathon, and I tried to park in the shade at each stop, no matter how far I had to walk. I also bought some 'greenie' plant rounds, like "round edging" that is deep enough to conserve water and minerals for your trees and shrubs and even annuals. My husband went to a rain barrel workshop today and got one free (re -purposed from another use) I hear you with the frig - mine is 30 yr old but when I try to find one that fits under the existing cabinet, I cannot make a happy choice - they have all grown taller! Also, like you I can't recess it as I have a pocket door there.

I am always afraid of my dishwasher failing and flooding the kitchen..or my clothes washer, which is in an annex just off the kitchen...had both happen one time and what a nightmare! Good news..i got new appliances...but the one in this house is dated and my washer has been through a lot, so there we go! i recall once i hated a fridge we had so much i told my mom i felt like unplugging it for a spell and then when hubby was not looking..plug it in..so i would get a new fridge..didn't do it but DH finally decided we really needed a new one...after all, harvest gold was not really in. So! I talkied him into a side by side then when we moved to this older house(our house is over 70 now)i found there is a wall that cannot be removed and now i have to open the fridge side in order to get into the freezer side...aaaarg! As for the challenge...i am beginning to find my groove. today i have to take my mother shopping..but i took one car to the garage and walked back from there! stupid locks will not work! I will do my best to do some challenge today.

When all was said and done with the carpet nightmares, I had washed all three in the washer! They smell wonderful, and are drying in the breeze outdoors. The large runner will take the longest to dry - it was last because I was reluctant to do it because of its size. I had to manually set it to the spin-only setting at the end of the cycle, as it failed on the Woolen cycle to spin. I also had the machine set to "Heavy Duty". I used my Ecos organic soap, which has a built-in fabric softener. Who knew?

I woke up to a cleaning nightmare - a pipe under the sink was spraying water and the kitchen was half under, going into the carpeted hallway. The kitchen is wood floor, with 2 large thick carpets where I work. It is now about 4 pm and I have been extracting water all day. Luckily it was clean water. I have the carpets (one 8' runner, one oval, one round) drying outdoors in the breeze, and the good side of this is that I get a new faucet - snazzy type I found at Costco at 10 cents on the dollar! for $30. DH is nearly done with the installation. Suffice it to say that my kitchen floor is a lot cleaner than it was last evening!

OK so it is that time of year again. When we start cleaning out the closets, painting the house, clean out the garage, clean up the yard and get it ready to plant. SPRING CLEANING!
When we are doing the spring cleaning we don't realize how much exercise we are really getting. So this will take care of our exercise as well as get some much need things done around the house.

SP has many of your cleaning and yard work chores listed in the fitness section. It is suprising how many calories we can burn doing these chores.

Let list all of our spring cleaning activities this month and the amount of calories burned doing it, as we do them.

If you can not find them on SP you can go to caloriesperhour.com they have an extensive list of activities.

Lets have fun with this and cross off some of those to dos on our lists!
