I downloaded an app with quotes to my phone and this was the first one.

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone,
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find neat the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping other.

I think Marilyn Monroe said this. At least that is what I was told.

"Seven days without laughter makes one weak."

"Silence is one of the great arts of conversation."
-Hannah More (1777)

One way we can tell that we are really close to someone, really comfortable with that person, is if we can just sit in silence together. So often we feel the need to fill those "awkward pauses" with idle chatter. But with some people, we're completely comfortable just sitting in silence. Sometimes more can be said in silence than can ever be said with words.

Avoiding Procrastination
We've all done it, put things off, delayed doing things, thinking that it will somehow be easier, or more interesting, at some time other than now. But then we get stressed out, and feel under pressure because our "to do" list has grown and our time allotment has shrunk. Why do we do this to ourselves? Procrastination is not laziness, it is an active process of delaying things until we "feel better" about them. It's a kind of perfectionism in the sense that we think everything has to be "just right" when in reality, there's no time like the present, and we really "feel better" when we have gotten something done. If procrastination is becoming a habit, there are things we can do about it. First, address what is making you uncomfortable about completing a necessary task. It the task seems too daunting or overwhelming, break it down into smaller chunks, and start from there. Once you get going, you'll start to feel a sense of accomplishment, and the rest will go much more easily. Another strategy is to sit yourself down with a timer - give yourself 10 or 15 minutes on the clock to get as far as you can into the task. Chances are, once the time is up you'll be so involved that you'll be happy to keep going until you finish. And you can also reward yourself for the completion of a task. We may readily put off something that makes us uncomfortable, but we are less likely to delay gratification. The reward can be anything that will spur you to action: a dinner out, a new DVD, or a bubble bath, for example.

Green Tea

Still haven't switched from coffee? Here are some health benefits that just may spur you to action. Studies have shown that tea, and particularly green tea, relaxes arteries and lowers blood pressure. Green tea is also being studied as a preventative for Alzheimer's disease. Green tea has been known to prevent kidney stones, and it also helps keep bones strong, which fends off osteoporosis. Green tea gives fat metabolism a boost and its main antioxidant may even prevent cavities! Green tea has less caffeine than black tea, which has lots less caffeine than coffee - but if you want to make sure you avoid that stimulant altogether reach for the decaffeinated variety. Many brands also have green teas flavored with peach, orange or even mango!

I thought this was good . . something I need to do more of . . sit quietly and let everything empty from my brain and let it take a "vacation" for a bit emoticon hope you like this:

Meditation

"Meditation is the action of silence."

-Krishnamurti (1895-1986)

Meditation is, quite simply, one of the best things we can do for ourselves and our spiritual growth. Our souls need silence the way our bodies need the air we breathe. Because we are so bombarded with activity and "noise" in our busy lives, we much actively pursue this silence. We must seek it out, and take it in, and then we will understand the good that is does for us.

This quote was from Friday's Healthy reflection from SparkPeople . . it struck a cord with me and wanted to share:

"Blessed is he who speaks a kindness; thrice blessed is he who repeats it."

How you treat others is important, but how you treat yourself is just as important. Would you talk down to your friend? Not many of us would . . why then do we talk down to ourselves? We need to speak kindly to others as well as to ourselves. You are an awesome person, you can do what you set out to do . . yes it may take a while to get where you are going, but you are not a quitter, keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will get where you are going on your journey . . whatever your journey is!!

You are beautiful, inspiraiton, encouraging, and a wonderful person to be around . . don't let anyone tell you any different . . including yourself!!!!

I received an email from Lisa Coffey about this and found it to be interesting . . how much "stuff" do we hold onto that we really don't need to??? Interesting thought . . . hope you enjoy this little article -

Releasing
When we moved, and we "downsized" by going to a smaller home, I got rid of a lot of stuff. Some I sold at a consignment store, some I gave away to friends, and other things I donated to charity. The whole process of releasing was very freeing. A lot of what I had just lying around the house is now being put to good use by people who really appreciate it. I found so much that I really didn't need that I wondered why I held onto it for so long in the first place! And I see that releasing is a good habit to be in, so now I don't let anything accumulate. Too often we clutter up our homes with too much stuff, when the statement that "less is more" is really true.

We do the same thing with our mind and our emotions. How much "stuff" are we hanging on to - hurt feelings, guilt, insecurities - that we don't need? If it is not serving us, or if it is in the way of our progress, then let's release it. Let it go! Give it up! It can be as simple as making the decision. Or it can be as elaborate as writing down everything that you are releasing, and watching it go up in flames in the fireplace. Either way, it feels good. It feels lighter when we don't have to carry around that stuff anymore.

I liked this quote from my daily email I get from Lisa Coffey . . living in the present . . something I need to do a little more of and not worry about what the future will hold . . live life now and make the most of it today, not tomorrow - not yesterday, but today . . that is what matters!!

Blessings to everyone . . hope you enjoy the quote and thought(s)

The Present

"Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such."
-Henry Miller (1891-1980)

How many golden moments have gone by while we were worrying about the future or fretting about the past? If these moments were our nourishment, how well fed would we be? Now is the time, this is the moment, to begin living in present moment awareness. Before we starve ourselves, let us partake of each moment as if it were a divine delicacy, because that is exactly what it is!

I got this in my email today and thought it was intersting . . I didn't know all this about the pearl!! Thought I would share.

Pearls

The birthstone for June is the pearl. Pearls are the only gemstones which grow from the inside out. Their larger, and older, pearls are the more rare, and more valuable. There is a lot of symbolism associated with the pearl. Because it comes from the sea, it is thought to be lunar, and feminine. Ages ago, it was said that the pearl was the result of lightning penetrating the oyster, so it was regarded as the union of fire and water. In ancient Greco/Roman times, the pearl was a symbol of Aphrodite, or Venus, and represented love and marriage. Many brides still wear pearls today. In India, the pearl represents transcendent wisdom, or enlightenment. In Christianity, it represents purity, and spiritual grace.
