I got out our Christmas decorations, lifting boxes, up and down steps. I gave myself 30 minutes, I have no idea how long I was actually doing it.

I'm looking for a reliable pedometer too. Did you find one you like? I've had at least 5 pedometers and none have worked accurately. Is it me? There must be a pedometer for Dummies that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? All help is APPRECIATED. Thanks.

My long-term goal is to lose 50lbs by the end of 2009. My short-term goals are to lose 4-8lbs each month by increasing my walking and elliptical exercise and tracking everything I do and everything I eat.

Finally, brethren,
whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

More walking but forgot pedometer again!!! Two days without it now. Will have to move it to a more obvious place I think. At least I have still been doing the walking. Getting to do the route quicker now so will see if it holds and then extend it. Also trying to do a bit more walking from home as well. All in all starting to lay down a routine I hope.

How do you pick out a good pedometer?

I've always had bad experiences with them. They either count too many steps or don't count enough steps. I don't think I've ever had one that told anything other than the amount of steps either.

I put a pedometer on me at work for a week. I am a nurse in a nursing home. Depending on what hall I was working I did anywhere from 15,000 to 17,600 steps -- whew I really felt tired after I saw those numbers.

Do I get credit on my fitness tracker for that?

DRAGONS.R.COOL: regarding walking where you know the distance, I've found I can walk wherever I want to and track it later. Found me a nifty website...
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
You put in your town name and state, tell it to zoom in and hit "start recording." Each time you meet a turn you double click to add another point on your journey. It keeps track as you go of miles traveled. Since I like to be able to just sort of go wherever I feel like during my walks, it's been a godsend.

Fate knows where you are going, but it is up to you to drive there.

I walked for 21 minutes, today, started raining. I also did strength exercises, today. I did close wall push ups, lying leg curls, seated leg extensions, pendulum, standing side bends with towel, and hip flexor, 2 sets of 15 each set(total of 30 each )exercise. It seems easier, when you just think about doing ten minutes at a time, each day. emoticon

I did a 15+ min walk with the whole family and I did my 200 ab crunches--I made it to 240 today! I also did some wall push ups.
My 2 big goals are walk 10+ min a day and do 200 crunches ea day of July. If it weren't for the SparkGuy 10 min fitness club, I wouldn't be doing these walks!

I log my walking with my pedometer with saying 30min/mil. I don't walk a mile in 30,but it is the lowest one. I walked for an hour and then I put my steps in the fitness note at the bottom. I'm not joining the 10,000 steps at least for now. I have trouble on some days reaching my goal of 5,000 steps right now.

Now I have to get a new pedometer. I put a new battery in my old one and it seemed to work fine. I looked up directions to set it, figured out my stride, added my weight--I guess it was information overload!! The screen flickers on and off, or doesn't come on at all. Errr!
Until then I'll just walk where I know the distance.

I didn't think to type the amount of steps, duh me. So, until I am told to do it another way, I am going to do it like you are. I will enter the number of steps on the tracker, and the miles it's equal to under cardio. Thanks!!!

Okay, I did this. When it asks "How Much?" - what do I put... Yesterday I did a 5 mile walk. Do I put 5.0 for the distance walked or how long it took me 100 minutes (1hr 40)?
I know I am over thinking this. I have been trying to read thru these logs to see if the ? was asked already. I also tract time and distance in another area--I don't want my exercise time counted twice, so that it looks like I walked 10 miles instead of the 5.

Naw, your good. I just keep trying to increase my steps each day. I think it's fun trying to beat each day's numbers. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to record them.

Help me Gia,
I have two questions for you.
1. I have been doing my 10 minutes/day by doing the swimsuit bootcamp and my own workouts. I have tracked the time on the other team. If I post it on this team, will the time show up as "double the amount"? I was unsure about this and that's why I haven't logged it yet.
2. I understand that using a pedometer, that 10,000 steps is roughly 5 miles. What do I enter for time when I track my steps? If I go for a specific walk, I know how long it takes. If I randomly walk throughout the day, I am unsure what "time" to track. Is there a kind of formula for how much time to enter? Does this question make sense...if not, let me know....
So confused, Thanks for any and all help, Dragons

Keep up the great work everybody. I love coming on hear and getting encouragement from reading your posts. I know that since I have started the 10 minute fitness club I have kept consistency with my workouts. I start intending to do 10 minutes but always end up doing more. I love it.

Thanks Gia. That is exactly what I have done. Can track on Other Goals page - just not showing on team goals. So frustrating!

At least I can keep a personal record anyway but would obviously like it to count towards the team effort.

Gia, although I have added the team goals to my Other Goals page and regularly track them, I do not appear on the team leaderboard. Does that mean my efforts are not counting towards the team total? I'm confused!

Hi Camille, thanks for your suggestions, a pedometer is a great tool for keeping track of your steps, it will register on the elliptical.

5 miles= 10,000 steps.

Forgive me, Gia, but I saw the 2nd goal, "Walk 10,000 steps each day." How do I know? Can this be measured in minutes or distance for me?

For instance, I did 5.7 miles on the elliptical... approximately how many miles would 10,000 steps be?

Sorry to be a bother but I'd like to step up to the challenge.

Gia, I hope I am posting on the correct thread but you asked for suggestions for Team Goals.

As a TEAM LEADER for another team, I've been setting up their new TEAM GOALS. I set our first three goals to be easy and unintimidating for people who are new to Spark.

These are the goals I set up:
• Drink 8 cups of water per day
• Eat 5 fruit & vegetables per day
• Do at least 10 minutes of fitness activity per day

In 2 days we've already reached our 100% for 10 min daily exercising so I'm getting ready to set up a new, more challenging team goal for exercise.

These are the goals I am POLLING our members to add:
(1) Walk, jog, run, cycle or swim- MOVE at least 15 miles per week.
(2) Track calories eaten at least 1x per day.

I am also asking my team members for additional suggestions. I will post our two new goals by MAY 1ST... but the first three goals are already active.

It's okay with me to track the same goals if you choose to... makes my life easier. But do new ones if you want, too.

I joined Spark People and started my weight-loss journey Sept. 18, 2007 and I have lost 42 lbs & 14 inches during this time... slow but steady and continual.

Hugs! =0) Camille

Listed under "TEAM GOALS" is our #1 goal, because this team is geared toward doing at least 10 minutes of fitness most days per week to build up consistency. This goal can be joined, and tracked NOW!

1-Consistently workout for 10 min. per day

Hi Team,

thought I'd post this announcement here, it explains how team goals work.

Co-Leader, Gia

SPARKGUY%5FSPTEAM's Blog

Introducing Team Goals

Hi everyone

We're VERY excited to announce the launch of a new feature, Team Goals.

What Are Team Goals
With Team Goals, SparkTeam Leaders can set up to 5 goals for members of their Team. Team members can then choose to "Join" the goal. When they do this, they get the goal added to their "Other Goals" page, and then their tracking totals go towards Team totals. We think this will make SparkTeams even more helpful and fun!

How to Use Team Goals
You can go to any SparkTeam page and find the "Team Goals" section under the Team Forums. You can then see any goals the leader has set. Note however that since this was just launched, not all Teams have goals. If your Teams don't have goals you can click here to see one that does.

When you want to become part of the goal, just click "Join Goal." As mentioned above, the goal will now be added to your Other Goals page. Note however that if your Team sets a Fitness Minutes or SparkPoints goal, you will automatically be part of that goal, since everyone on SparkPeople tracks Fitness Minutes and SparkPoints.

Something Else New - SparkPeople Specials (plus Other Health goals)
With the launch of Team Goals, we also added some other new tools to your Other Goals page. "SparkPeople Specials" are some goals that many members have asked about tracking, such as a step tracker. You can go to Other Goals and click "Add/Remove Special Goals." Note also that Team Goals can include SparkPeople Special Goals, and that if you are on multiple Teams with the same SparkPeople Special Goal, you'll just need to track once to update all your Teams.

Also on the Other Goals page you'll see a section for "Other Health Related Goals." Here you can add any goal that you'd like.

We realize that this is a big feature, and it may take seeing and trying it to fully understand. But, we think members will love it once you give it a try! If you have any questions or comments, please drop them on this message board topic discussing Team Goals.
