Okay, I gather everyone's kind of doing their own thing re: running or they've decided to stick with walking. I know you folks will still be there for me as I work my way to the Cowtown Half Marathon in Land Park on October 4th.

My daughter's cross country coach gave this link to his runners to keep their core toned. Since I signed up for that half marathon in October I'm givin' it a thorough look.

Shriner's Solstice 8k in 55:20! I wanted under an hour and got it. The Shriners put on a heck of a race (followed by a delicious pancake breakfast).

I took the next step. With encouragement from family, friends, and sparkers, I mailed of the registration form and fee today. I will be doing the Cowtown Half Marathon in October. GULP. I swear, filling out and, worse, MAILING that form had me more nervous than I was signing my marriage certificate! The mail had already been picked up on our street but I knew, if the envelope had to sit here and wait until Monday, I might change my mind. So, I took it straight down to the post office. To confirm for myself that this was the right thing to do, I didn't even drive the 1.3 miles to the post office. I ran it.

I have until October 9th to get myself ready. (DEEP BREATH) HERE GOES!

My daughter's Cross Country team started pre-season conditioning this week. Since I have to take her about 30 miles away...to the school I attend....and it's an hour and a half three times a week, I've just been using the time to get my runs in. Since I don't take the whole 1 1/2 hours to run, I do an extra long cool down and stop off in the campus computer lab and log my run afterwards. Nice to know the lay of the land and be able to log in while I'm there.

Pity the new recreation wellness center won't be finished and open until 2 months after I'm due to graduate.

I'm doing a 5k on the 14th for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and an 8k for the Shriners on the 20th. What is everyone else up to?

Did my first "competitive" 5k at Sac State. It was the inaugural SacState Fun run for students and alumni only. My lungs were burning before the first mile - something they don't normally do to me anymore - due to the dusty, pollen-filled air. I ended up actually walking for a minute or more of it.

Still, I ended up beating my best time by a full 2 minutes!! Works for me!

K-I added myself to your "follow my blog". Thanks for sharing the link to it. I enjoy reading up on a runner's experiences.

I did my first full marathon with Team In Training. I think I'm pretty traumatized by it so I'll be sticking half marathons or less.

I don't have a google account and since my AIM is through my .mac account instead of through AOL it is too long for them to accept. I can't comment on your blog. I can read it though!

Way to go on 2 years running and I'm sure you'll make that 1000 miles this year! Just being able to set that kind of goal and know it's possible for you is fantastic!

Cool! I will definitely be asking questions.

I have trouble with the intervals style of training. I find, once I slow down, it's harder (mentally) to get myself to kick it back up again.

Hi! I am a runner....I started running in March 2007 and worked my way up to a 5K, 10K, and now I do half marathons. I started running via walk run intervals which is a fabulous way to train and is so much better on the body. For the past year, I also am a women's running coach. In addition to coaching, a run pretty much every day (no intervals, just running), usually about 5-7 miles a day. Feel free to ask me any questions. I also blog about my running and tips I have as well (website below)

Yup. It starts and ends at Raley Field and it's (surprise, surprise) always right around St. Patrick's Day.
I was there when my best friend walked/jogged it this year. I want to do that with her next year.
My husband likes to reminisce about his days running cross country but I don't see him getting back there just yet.

Franclyn, the Shamrock is the one in Sacramento right? The one that just passed? I wanted to run that one too! I heard that one is a lot of fun.

Good luck in your training - you can do it!!! If you ever want a running partner, I'm always looking for a running partner. My husband isn't entire sold on "running for fun". LOL!

Thank you for the link. I don't know that I want to run a marathon (Christopher would love it,) but I'd like to be able to run a 5K without stopping.

Time to train!

I ran my first Full Marathon a couple years ago with Team In Training (LOVE THEM!) I learned a lot of great tips on stretching, form and handling injury through the organization.

I'm training for the River Run Half Marathon on April 19th, and am hoping to participate in the Disneyland Half in September and the Nike Women's Half in October.

I used to do a run/walk interval (3 min run/2 min walk) throughout the race. Now I'm training for a 3 min jog/2 min run to help improve my time.

I run with co-workers in Lagoon Valley in Vacaville. Great trail, and lots of options for increasing mileage. We each do our own kind of interval sets, so we don't pressure one another with our time and speed.

Here's a link to a blog post I put on my personal blog for the watch I use. I LOVE IT! It really helps me with my training.

I've done some fun runs, but I think I walk more than I run in those. My BF is a runner... right now he's doing less than 3 miles, but at his peak he does 6 or more. I'd like to be able to run with him without slowing him down. I need to train for that.

50 is the new 30.

Before I got my body back (the healthy one that was under layers of junk), I lumped walking for fitness in with all types of running. Now, I'm a walker and runner who is trying to increase the running side of that. I am running my first 5k (I've walked and walk/jogged many but never just run one) on April the 16th at Sac State and I plan on doing the Shamorock'n Half Marathon next year - running at least a decent portion of it.
Anyone else a discovering or experienced runner?
