@cindy...hi just curious as to whether you have ever been tested for a dairy allergy...just asking because you said that milk makes you cough more...i know wheat really bothers me and seems to make my reflux worse...just a thought :)

I will look into it! I am on such a heavy dosage of other drugs that this might create a wonderful influx of cash. I am not a big eater anymore because of this, so as long as I can keep something in my stomach, I am great with it. Pretty much have gone to mostly small grains and soup, but it hasn't lessened. But I also have some nasty ulcers in my stomach, so my acid reflux is always activated! Thanks for the info, I am going to look for that book on Amazon! C

Me too! I had a bad "cold" mostly cough, difficulty breathing and funny voice weakness. When I finally decided to go to my doctor she said: silent reflux or LPR (laringo pharingeal reflux). I started reading about it and sure enough, all the symptoms fit. I was referred to a gastroenterologist and he agreed with the diagnosis and gave me pantoprezol (prilosec on prescription strength). That cut it right away! then I found that a doctor at the Voice Institute in New York has been working for a long time on this, but from the voice perspective: Dr. Koufman. It's worth to check her material; she has a book where she proposes an acid free diet that starts with a strict phase and gets more flexible later. I didn't buy the book (yet?), but found a research paper that has the basics: nothing canned/bottled and a list of "normal" food like grains, banana, graham crakers, rice ... it's a fairly long list. I started the diet after a flare up this week and I haven't felt any symptoms since. Worth the effort!

Yes, I didn't get asthma until I was around 28. But I had my tonsils out in Jr. High. Dairy of any kind makes me cough - chocolate etc.... I am not quite sure where they want me to go with this now. They just keep giving me more drugs and with the ones I am on for my migraines and RA, I seem to be my own pharmacy. Just wondering if they were having you do anything else. The raised bed, the nasal cleaning, the weight, the sleep apnea machine, etc...

I know the fish out of water feeling. Isn't that awful, you try and do something and your breathing harder than a dog on a hot day! I hope you are hanging in there and good luck. This cough is just getting worse as the years go on!

Hi! Yes, I had my tonsils out but I was a kid...some 50 years ago. I also went through a thing with asthma as an adult...felt like a fish out of water.
I am thinking that I will always have this cough...sigh...so tired of it like you must be.
Milk seems to make it worse, how about you?
Looking forward to talking to you.
Cindy

Sorry to break into your conversation, but I too have the nasty cough (supposedly from the Acid Reflux). I have raised my bed (which really has helped a lot.). I have taken to drinking constantly through the day. They have put me on two inhalers and aciphex. This seems to have kept me going pretty well for the most part. Plus some decongestants and drainage pills (seems, I also have some kind of sinus damange from a botched sinus job a couple of years ago). I am wondering if you have had your tonsils removed and if you have, when that was? And if you have a history of asthma? Have they stated anything to you about COPD? Sorry, I know - if you don't want to answer anything, that is cool with me - just wondering as all those things have been brought up during my doctors visits. Kind of wondering if I am a guinea pig to this Doctor.

Oh boy! I don't even want to chance that after what I have been through the past few months!
Thanks though. My new pain doc put me on Gabapentin or something like that and the side effects are crazy. I am going to take it for about a month and then when I go back in to see my doc in Feb, I am going to talk to him about other solutions like putting a pain neurostimulation in my back for the pain. I have several chronic problems that seemed to flare up all at once this past year. :(
Thanks again!
Cindy

Thank you for responding. What are the side effects of the Dexilant? I am realizing real fast that we have to pay the 'Piper' for every medicine that we take. The Nexium is a prohibitor that blocks protein and that makes it hard as well.
I will check into this one that you are talking about.
Thanks again-Cindy

i too cough alot with my acid reflux..i was on nexium but now take dexilant 60..both of them make my fibromyalgia worse so i tend to try to avoid them..but then end up eating gaviscons and papaya like crazy...i did raise the head of my bed that has helped for the nite time reflux... i notice less coughing when i avoid carbs as much as possible..however the atkins diet raised my bad cholestral..and avoiding carbs all the time isnt the easiest..lol...the dexilant 60 also helped me alot more than the nexium...wish i could take it all the time..maybe your doc could let you try that one for a while..took one today and my coughing isnt as bad

My symptoms are a little different than I read from everyone elses. Mine is mostly coughing, a constant cough. Do any of you experience that? I have done it for YEARS! My docs have put me on Nexium (years ago) and I guess it helps some but I still have a cough.
Just wondering. Cindy
