Jenny--What a wonderful reward! Snowshoes! Doubly rewarding because you'll get good exercise points too!

I agree that since being on SP, my AR is much more in control and then the doctor put me on acipHex and now I am switching to once a day Prilosec (since I have lots around and don't have to pay anything for it....)

Hi everyone..
I use pariet for my acid reflux, which is alot bettter since I joined Spark and changed some bad habits. It's funny how it gets set off for no reason, like water will bother me once in a while.
My favorite exercise is hiking, and here in Ottawa we have some AMAZING trails, summer and winter. This winter for sticking to my plan I am rewarding myself with snowshoes..Can't wait!
Health and happiness to you all,
Jenny

I relate to your comments on how hard it is to enjoy the little things when you are in pain with AR. I also found when trying to increase water that even water could set it off. I decided to talk to a pharamacist and got advise to try a medication each day for a while to "reduce my symptoms and try to reset my system". It seems to have really worked for me.
I have also tried the other ideas that this Spark team offered. It is such an individual thing. Our bodies respond differently. I am feeling much more in control of it with some changes and my symptoms have reduced quite a bit.
Hope you get some more ideas from the team which help you.

Hi BeSmallAgain, I don't think any of those things sound weird! I know how hard it is to control things when you are in a up or a down. That you recognize what sets off the AR, you can choose just one and try to remove that trigger. Have you tried putting 6" blocks uner the head of your bed? We do that because of my husband and my AR! I really helps in most cases. CMY (Carol)

Hi everyone. I am happy to be here. I suffer from acid reflux and irritable bowel. I suffered more less week but was more stressed. I also ate late (bingeing) which made things even worse. I had bouts of acid reflux morning noon and night. This week, so far, has been a good one. I am eating less in the evenings and trying to stop eating 2 hours after dinner. It's not as easy as I thought since I am a binge eater. Constipation causes me to have acid reflux as well due to irritable bowel. I hate that feeling of waking up with vomit in my mouth. I propped up on three pillows to sleep one night. I love to read. I love to watch movies with my son. I suffer from bipolar disorder as well so the mood swings bring on stress which brings on the acid reflux. This morning I am feeling the burning pain in the top of my stomach just under my chest so it might be another acid reflux day. Drinking diet sodas will also bring it on as well as coffee. Even water alone will cause it for me. Weird, huh?

I believe there is always a chance to learn.

Now that I got so close, I have decided to lose 10 more pounds because I am 1.5" shorter than I thought I was. I still used my height from when I was 18 and no one ever told me I had shrunk! Maybe that is why I still have a few "soft" places! So now I have 12 to go. My AR seems to be in check with the Aciphex (no side effects!) So things are on the up and up! no no--I mean up and down! LOL

Well, I am close to goal with 2 pound to go. I should see them disappear in the next 2 weeks! I have noticed that I tend to slack off the closer I get. Weird, you'd think I would do the opposite. I am resolute! I will do my work to reach goal. Then, just to keep things interesting, I'm going to change my goal weight down 5-10 pounds because I recently found out I am shorter than I used to be! LOL.

Have a great day! and smile, smile, smile! CMY (Carol)

May I suggest you guys check out this guy's story. His daughter had GBS (GBS is Guillain-Barré syndrome - it is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system.) and this January he decided he was going to do a 5K run for her as she is no longer able to run.
Well, 6/6/08 was his goal date, and he made a YouTube video for her as he couldn't be with her physically.

Here is his YouTube link:

I take an herbal supplement at bedtime for colon health and I think that I need to move it to when I eat dinner. I have noticed that it seems to be triggering heartburn. Last night, I took it and immediately started to feel something. I took a Prilosec and then chewed a Maalox and it calmed down.

Other than that, still going well and now down 2 more pounds--9 to go. My dear DIL has 8 to go and looks so terrific. She is not happy doing this weight loss and says that every fiber of her being goes into talking herself through this. I tried to get her up on this site to no avail yet. I'll keep trying! She is in WW and using core--I can't because I eat too fast. I am trying to put my fork/spoon down between bites and it is starting to work!

Have a great Thursday! Carol

I am on a high fiber diet and I'm not having acid reflux. I'm only taking 3 prilosec a week as precaution. But it's been great!!

Hi All, I have just returned from vacation in the Poconos (Pennsylvania) and had a lovely, fun-filled, exercise filled, but also food filled time. Really, most days I was under the calorie count until the last two days when things started creeping up. I'm back on the band wagon now, though. Just thought I'd report that there were NO incidents of acid reflux or heartburn the whole week! Yeah! One month and only 2 attacks and both minor. I love SP!

Hi Toni--No vinegar--the dressing is lime/lemon juice and olive oil. It has tomatoes, avocado, onions, jalapenos, black beans, cumin, fresh garlic, and white corn. I am sure there are several triggers there! And the stress of having my mom probably didn't help....

The only other actual attack was during a two-hour work out. I had eaten before swimming, but had waited 2 hours--Porbably just over worked--can't remember the menu.....

Have a great day! I love vinegar too (and its healthy qualities)

Carol, was there any vinegar in your dressing? That has started to get to me in the last few years. Sigh...and, it suppose to be good for you, doesn't that just figure!

Hello fellow AR/GERD sufferers. I haven't been posting to this team pages, but think it is time I chime up. Since joining SP, I have had one heartburn attack and one almost heartburn attack. Both were held back and relieved with the Prilosec and Maalox. I don't understand the last one. I can only guess that the black bean and corn salad at dinner caused it. We ate at 6:00 ish and I didn't go to bed until 11:00 with nothing else to eat. I have never had a problem with that particular recipe before, but I wonder if I am more sensitive now that I am eating differently--or just never equated those before?? The jalapenos were lightly used, because my husband doesn't like things too, too spicy--I am the hot food nut, but am cutting way back.

Oh, well, moderation in all things will get me there!

Have a great day!

I love getting out and walking in this great weather. When its not so pretty outside I walk on the treadmill.I also do the same on my bycycle.

My motivation is reading the posts and stories about how much everyone has lost. It really gives me hope.

Reading what everyone has to say goes a long way to motivate me along with some health problems that I should not be having in my thirties.

My favorite is going out for walks but up here in the country in Canada the winters are long and it isn't always pleasant to walk on the side of the roads so I need to find something for the winter...I walk on the treadmill but it isn't the same as being outside! I am so glad spring is here I have been walking every night this week. I also try to participate in any activity that involves my kids..that is free and easy exercise! I am limited in that department because of a heart condition and I am always looking for some new ways to exercise wihtout pushing it too far..! If any of you have suggestions I would love to read about them!

Thank you for all the support! Sometimes we might not think that what we are writing is helping but I sure am inspired by all of your experiences.

I love to walk for my exercise. I recently bought a walking dvd and I use that for my exercises.

What motivates me is that I would like to live a long and healthy life.

I have to cook differently than I use to. My husband is a diabetic and I use a diabetic 1500 calorie diet to cook from. I have been learning how to read labels and use them in cooking from scratch.

My goals for the swim suit weight challenge are:
1, Lose 4 lbs.
2, Go down a dress size
3. See how many inches I have lost.

One day at a time.

Well, I don't know if it exactly qualifies but I love
to ride my Harley. It is work to hold her up and you
are constantly moving........

However, I also love to walk, & ride horseback. Right now when the arthritis is acting up, the horse
back is out of the question..

What motivates me?? Gee, I want to live a long and
satisfying life and be as healthy as I can be...

I am learning to cook in a whole new healthy way.
Tonight I made Gumbo, all healthy, no fat except for
whatever little bit was in the smoked turkey sausage.

Blessings all,

My favorite exercise has always been walking. I can do this and not even consider that I "have to". It is something I want to do. In the spring, summer, and fall I like to walk here on our land. I like to walk through the woods, in the field, and around our pond. There is nothing that releases worries, anger, tension, or stress, any better than these walks. I can walk and be released, refreshed, and ready to anew. This form of exercise is not only good for the body and the heart, but is great for the soul. If you don't live in the country, go to a safe park to walk. Take a friend. Observe all the beauties of nature which the good Lord has provided for us.

My second favorite exercise that I enjoy and don't think that I "have to" do is sitting on a stability ball instead of a chair to get any extra calorie burning from having to sit at a computer. When you take a short break and bounce and exercise on it the calorie burning increases, but just sitting on it burns 350 calories per 8 hours or almost 44 calories an hour. au.answers.yahoo.com/answers2/fronte

I also like stair stepping, stationery bicycle, walking up and down stairs in doctors buildings and hospitals, since that's where we seem to be much of the time, walking in Walmart Super Centers, using the resistance bands, and using the resistance bands in bed before I go to sleep to stretch muscles when I have had a bad pain day which allows me to relax after the exercise.

HELLO TOPAZ, MY EXERCISE PROGRAM STARTS OUT WITH A RIDE ON MY STSTIONARY BIKE EVERY OTHER DAY, AND THEN I GO INTO MY STRENTH EXERCISE I GOT FROM SP. THE NEXT DAY I EXERCISE WITH STRAPES AND THE BALL. I GOT ALL OF THESE FROM SP. I LIKE TO SWITCH THEM UP, AND YOU DON'T GET SO SORE. IT IS NOT GOOD TO DO THE SAME EXERCISE EVERYDAY. SO I MIX IT UP. I TRY TO DO IT AT THE SAME TIME EVERYDAY. GOD BLESS, CAT LOCER

my exercise is determined on how my RA is that day. I do stretches in bad and a chair and light weight exercises with a 2# dumbbell at home, nothing that requires me to get on the floor. I use the ones in the exercise tracker. I try to get to the pool 3-7 days a weeks and tread water 45 min, jog against a swim jet or use the underwater treadmill. I eat plain unseasoned chicken brest or dry pan grilled fish with steamed veggies..boring but great for a micro cooker person. And SP and my swim buddy are what keep me on track! The food tracker is my inspiration for change

Action is for today if you want results tomorrow.
My goal is a daily action and I strive for it to be a positive one. Suzanne

Tell us your favorite exercises, low-cal healthy recipes, what motivates you. Tell us a little about yourself. This is the place to do it.
