I used to, but the last year or so I have had the reverse.

My friend's doctor put her on Xantac instead of the Prilosec. She said it wouldn't shut down her gut as much. My Oncologist said something about trying Prilosec for me (can't remember what for, but I think so that I could take aspirin without it eating my stomach like it does) and I told him after what it did to my friend there was no way. Of course, it might shut down my gut enough that I could leave the house without having to run to the nearest restroom.
Does anyone know what gall stones or other gall bladder problems would do towards causing more IBS problems? He has ordered a CT scan for me because of both the pains on the right side that indicate possible gall stones and a sharp pain I have been getting on the other side. If it wasn't for the pain on the left it would just have been an ultrasound. Plus he has ordered a TSH because when I do lose weight I can only get down to 200 and no lower.

I have tried going without Prilosec but within a couple of days I get heart burn and acid reflux.

I wouldn't make it if I did know where every bathroom on the route was. It hits that suddenly.
My friend has been reading about leaky gut syndrome and candida (they are both in the same book) and has been trying to use the diet from there. She has fibro and they had her on Prilosec, anti-depressant, muscle relaxants and who knows what all else. She has gotten off the Prilosec and anti-depressants because both are listed as causes of leaky gut syndrome. So are NSAIDs, which she had often had to take. She said she was really sick for a while going off the Prilosec, but since she started this she has lost 10 pounds of inflammation. Another thing she has stopped is the coffee she used to drink. Instead she will have herbal tea or water and she has quit eating bread. She is bringing her book tomorrow for me to see and is meeting me at the doctor's so I am going to ask my doctor about that. I don't know that I can follow the thing completely, but I'm going to try to at least do some of it.

I had the same problem with bathrooms and knew where every one was on my routes. Since I have been making sure I get 25-30 grams of fiber a day by eating Fiber One cereal. I also use Digestive Advantage for IBS and I also use a fiber tablet sometimes. Greek yogurt is also helpful for me. Of course with IBS there is always that element of surprise!

I can understand being stressed out going downtown when they don't have restrooms there. You have to have some money with you to buy something and you have to buy it first before you can use a restroom. I usually don't have time for that.
I never seem to have the warning to stay home when I don't feel good. I will be feeling fine and then it will hit all of a sudden.

It is a fear of mine to be caught in public without a restroom. I make sure I know where they are. And if I feel an attack coming on, I stay home. It stresses me out to go downtown because there really aren't public bathrooms or what if I get stuck in traffic??

I would check out the restrooms upon arriving at a new place. Also, I would make sure I had my purse with me so that I didn't get catch short with no toilet paper.
All the places I go to I know where they are, and for new places it's the first thing I make sure I know where they are!!

When the kids were little I knew where all the restrooms were for them when we were out. Now I am thankful for having this information for me!

I have also had to figure out where there are places I can stop for a pit stop. I think the police sometimes wonder about me because one of the places I've found is a police station that is on the way to the hospital.

I also check out where the restrooms are everywhere I go.
I have been carrying an emergency kit for several years now. I hate having problems whenever I go somewhere and usually only go to stores where I know where the restrooms are.

I had it happen when I was sleeping and it didn't wake me up. ugh! I have not had one in public. You are right. It does make sense to carry an emergency kit.

Gas would be a blessing. Any one had a "wet fart" while out in public? I now carry an emergency change kit in the trunk of my car.

Yes, my problem has been running to the bathroom....gas after eating many foods. It is a nightmare having IBS. You gave us some good tips. I will try them.

I used to have this problem. I thought maybe someone else might. My body changed on me is how I finally got "relief." If you call chronic constipation relief....
Fiber really did help me. but not the drinks. I had to eat the real food fiber. As long as I stuck to around 25 grams, things stayed relatively better for me. Also, I tried the enzymes to help me digest milk and that helped.
