I track my fittness daily, the food sometimes, I don't follow their plan so it's time consuming to have to enter it all...I do keep a journal & I use Dietpower to track my daily intake.

Ah, ok.

Yeah, I knew about the little link below, but don't always think to check it as I tend to import foods from here in the UK as it makes it easier to enter the correct info, especially when it comes to measurements since they use different ones here. Anyway, I guess I wasn't really paying attention, but I will be from now on. I've added my own stuff to the import food list as well so people can use that as it's more complete. Hopefully that will help others from making the same mistake as me!

Yeah, I absolutely LOVE it here. I live in the southwest is definitely the most beautiful part having traveled to other parts of the country. It's where a lot of people come to retire, so you can imagine. I should send you a link for our flickr page so you can check out our pics on there of Devon and other areas of England!

I'm originally from Chicago, but live in Rockford, IL now...it's 5:00 am here!

Did you know that you can check the nutritional content of any food, imported or on the system by clicking a little link under where you enter the amount you've eaten? Saved me quite a few times...

If the numers are still incomplete, I usually go search elsewhere on the web and then enter it all in manually...more work, less aggravation...

When I enter food, I am always careful to enter all of the details I can...

btw...I'm jealous...ENGLAND....how romantic!

No, I live in England (originally from MN) but moved here to be with my husband who's from here. It's just going on 10 am here! Where do you live?

Just realized that when I look at my daily report for nutrition that it's waaaay off because a lot of the foods I was using, either imported or on the system already don't have any of the other nutritional info besides the calories and fat! Grrr! Very frustrating as I was worried I wasn't getting enough carbs and seemed puzzled by that so I had to go in and reenter a bunch of stuff and it's still probably not right. That's one thing that is frustrating on here. If you don't double check the nutritional info before you add it to your daily menu you can't always be sure you're getting what it says! Just a warning anyway!

Yes, I track both food and exercise avery day. It keeps me accountable and motivates me to be careful and consistent. I recently bought the Eat Smart nutritional scale to help with accuracy. I use it several times a day. It's also good for pre-measuring accurate portions of cereal, nuts, dried fruit, or whatever ahead of time.

Yeah, we do seem to be in the same place right now. Thanks for adding me as a friend, I saw the separate email. I'll add you as one as well! It's funny I was actually thinking of doing that yesterday, so you beat me to it! emoticon Anyway, today is another good weather day - even more nice that yesterday! So I think we'll be going for a bike ride, so that should burn off a few more calories! I love when I burn tons of cals while having fun because then I can eat more because the calories burned/eaten ratio goes the other way! emoticon Have a great day!

I'm sure you'll do just fine. There's always a period of adjustment and that can be very depressing, but just push through it and think of the end result! I just got back from a long walk in the countryside! Over 1000 cals burned! Yahoo! Always nice when I can burn way more than I need to in one day! emoticon

Thanks for the encouragement...let's hope I'm not too shocked to find just how much I've been eating! LOL. I do know that even with my best guesses, I've been off sometimes...but I do track faithfully and that has really kept things conscious for me!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the loving food stuff! I suppose the main reason I gained weight is because I was eating all this rich food in huge portions and not paying attention to what I ate (I pretty much ate every meal in front of the TV when I was single!). Even though I worked out religiously every day (belonged to a gym) I still ate the same and so I maintained my weight for a while, but then I stopped working out and the weight started piling on and I couldn't figure out why!

Anyway, well done for buying the scale and measuring cups. It really does help to get a better idea of what a single serving is and then it comes naturally after a while. Good luck! emoticon

O I HERE YA! Loving food is the ONLY reason I've gained weight, I'm sure of it! Well, maybe that and not exercising before...LOL.

Just bought myself an electronic food scale and measuring cup set...I know its time for me to get serious AND realistic about portion sizes if I want to keep my weight loss going...

yeah, i hear ya! i always try to put in an actual measurement as well. having an electronic kitchen scale has really helped me keep track of exactly how much i should be eating and how much a serving actually is and i'm starting to learn by sight how much i should be eating! i'm really psyched about how it's starting to become natural for me to not eat so much like i used to as overeating has always been a real struggle for me all my life as i just LOVE food SO much and it's hard to know when to stop!

I find the food labels to be the most accurate as well...especially when you look up the nutritional info on an imported food and all it says is calories per 1 serving...and I think to myself, What is ONE serving anyway...when I add foods, I always try to incorporate some sort of measure...like per ounce or slice or whatever...

but all in all, I think I get pretty accurate...

Hee hee! Yeah, my husband often makes fun of me for bringing my cans or boxes of food to the computer desk with me to use them to fill things out. I've actually taken to looking up foods from online supermarkets as they have the nutritional info printed for each food you can order from them (well in the UK anyway.) Not sure if that works in the US. Not sure where you all live, but where I'm from in MN, they have Simon Delivers, a grocery delivering service, so maybe they have something like that near where you live where you could find the calorie info online. I do find the imported food info often has what I'm looking for as well, though I tend to trust the info on the actual packaging as I've seen way too much variance in the calorie counts of ordinary food on here. Wish there was a way to make sure that what I'm eating is exactly what it says becuase I often think I'm eating too few calories or too many depending on the serving size used for the food entered on SP. Oh well...best to confirm with the actual food packaging I guess!

I do wish that SP would increase the size of its database...at least 40% of the time I am having to add the info from a label...but now that we can access shared trackers, my work is getting easier...
Either way, tracking has really become second nature to me...so much so that the rest of the rest fo my household now knows to keep such labels for me...they do tease me sometimes though (good-naturedly) by saying things like "what if you ate the carton it came in too, does that count?" LOL

GABIRUSZCZAK: I totally know what you mean! I was just simply tracking the food I had already eaten, but I've been eating much better because I can fill in what I plan on eating for the whole day and then seeing if I have to adjust something somewhere to fit into my suggested calories level. It's really hard sometimes, but the best is when you realize that after filling in a whole day's foods + snacks you are still under the recommended daily calories!

Yes, I definitely use both, though I set my own menus rather than follow the ones recommended as it's harder to find some of the foods they have on there over here in the UK or I don't care for them. Wish I liked more of them as it would help me get more carbs and calcium without all the cals. Oh well...

I make a lot of homemade food because of allergies and other sensitivities. I measure most of my ingredients and them enter them into the recipe calculator. Then I enter the nutrition totals on the calculator that says enter a new food not listed, then I save it in my favorites so the next time I make it I already have all the information I need.

This works well for me! I have also looked up restaurant food online.

I also us daily plate sometimes to find an item and then enter that nutrition info.

I just feel it is better to do something than nothing at all.

That's a good idea...I've looked up separate ingredients too sometimes, and I feel good about making the effort to be accurate. Don't forget, there are some incredible Food Databases on line...all free...like www.myfitnesspal.com;www.dietfacts.com;www
..calorieking.com...just to name a few...some even list Restaurants that don't have their own Nutrition Facts on line... calorielab.com and thedailyplate especially...I keep them bookmarked and use them when I can't find what I'm looking for onsite here...

I use the nutrition and fitness tracker as well.

In regards to the trouble with using it when making home made (scratch) foods. This is what I have come up with. I enter the food items of the recipe seperately. For example tonight we are having a chicken casserole. It has chicken, cream soup, cheese, rice and so on. Instead of entering all the info for the recipe and getting one number for the whole thing I will enter all the individual items. It maybe isn't as accurate but it is closer than doing nothing.

That may be an idea for you. Just my thoughts.

Yes, I use both daily.

I used to, but I joined Weight Watchers recently and now use their online fitness and food trackers. I just don't have the extra energy to track on both sites. But I definitely find that tracking SOMEWHERE is necessary for me.

As far as the nutrition tracker goes, I find it hard to use because I make my own food at home (always) because of my IBS and silly sensitivities. Does anyone else find it cumbersome to try and enter your recipe calculations into the tracker?

I do use both . When I don't have the time to track what I eat I just write it down in a notebook and at the end of the day I track my consumption of food and water. I think this is great because it makes you depend on your judgment and let the program be your guide in making decisions.

I only track my fitness, water intake and personal goals. I don't care for the nutrition tracker because I find it too cumbersome. I just keep a hand-written food diary that saves a lot of time.

I love this site and the Nutrition Tracker was the main reason I joined SparkPeople. I think it's a wonderful idea -- and I use it -- to a point, but I find that I don't always have time to sit down and track everything -- I know. Time Management -- My biggest weakness! Thank you, SparkPeople, for the conceptionof the best Program EVER! emoticon emoticon

Yes I do. I find they make me much more accountable. I've also found it great to be able to see how my carbs, protein etc are going now that I am doing my own meals. It is an amazing site.

I did finally start using it. I like it because it keeps track of the calories as well as the fiber, protein etc.

I do, they help me to stay on track and focus on the steps I need to reach my goals. I also journal about my progress everyday. I believe this is a great part of the reason I am doing as well as I am. So far, I have had a loss every week since Christmas!

I learned how to set daily and weekly goals and post them on the Community Journal. I am not perfect at this but I am making progress and I have lost weight, bought down my BMI and lost some inches off my waist! It is progress not perfection! And I can see where I am going and my successes and the areas I need to work on with the Trackers. I daily work on getting enough Fiber, keeping Cholesterol and fats low and getting enough protein.

I do not use the SP menus because I have way too many allergies so I eat from my own menus.

Do you use the trackers and Do the Trackers work for you?
