My goals are to eat better, exercise more, and I would love to be down to my goal weight. I hate to just aim for a number on the scale, but isn't that what we're used to? To do that, I need to just be healthier all-around. I would love to be able to go snow shoeing and not get winded so fast, but I am getting better!!

I'm with Oprah on this one for 2009. Instead of focusing on losing weight I want to really focus on being more healthy in general -- eating better, being more active, taking time to relax and just to spend more time on me. :-)

That is a great point re: soda. Apart from weight loss, one significant side benefit of improved water intake was loss of craving for coffee and soda. As such, soda is not good for us anyway. I do take soda to quench thirst only as last resort (say during during flight).

Try not to make coffee or soda a daily habit.

I'm aiming to stop eating things I know I'll pay for later tummy-wise.
I'm also working on limiting myself to one soda a day (if even that) and drinking fewer carbonated/caffeinated beverages in general.

My first goal is to not hang onto everything and throw a few things out.

Secondly, just to start exercising. I have lost weight, but I have not been exercising but maybe 1 day every 3 months. I know....I've been really bad.

So, the word for this year (2009) is EXERCISE. I want to do at least one exercise a week (this is a huge improvement for me). When I reach this goal I will up the ante to 3 days a week and then I will be fine. It's just the getting started...just like doing the dishes.

Ahhh my goals for 2009!!!

~Finish my degree (May '09 baby!)
~Lose at least 50 pounds.
~Find a new job, which is putting my hard-earned degree to use!
~Try the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey and try to begin eliminating my debt.
~Travel to somewhere I've never been before!
~Attend an Adult Sunday School class at my new church.
~Sing in the choir.

I find taking action reduces my stress level but often in work situation, it is hard to take a break.

What causes more stress to me are thoughts like, what-if or what else can go wrong. Stop stressing out when I convince myself I did everything I could given what I know and capable of.

When I feel stressed Sharon, I walk outside and deep breathe, thinking only of the air coming in through my nose for the count of five, hold it for five and then let it out for the count of five, then hold the out for five counts, then start again. I do this a few times until I feel that I am a bit less stressed. I know that some people blow do this and use a paper bag to blow into and out of. All the very best for your goals.

Continue to track my water and food. My doctor said that keeping track of what I eat will be more successful than weight loss surgery. When I learned how easy and fun it is to track on spark points I got started last week.

It is a challenge because plain water makes my stomach queasy. I drink a little water then take a sip of something better.

the real

1) take off 20 pounds that I let creep back on. I lost this same weight 5 years ago.

2) as part of that process, to regain the strength that was also lost, along with my flexibility, and to reduce my stiffness.

I'm a little low right now, too. I've been at goal for a long time, but after my surgery last week I took awhile to be able to eat again, and lost 2 pounds. The problem with gaining it back is that it can't be with the cookies that are everywhere right now or I will absolutely overshoot. I have to eat a little more fruit and a second piece of toast; in other words, a formerly fat housewife always has to be On Plan, even recovering from surgery. Fortunately I've been at goal long enough that I am way past feeling deprived.

MELSREST~My Christmas present to you is five of my pounds for you plus a little more if you want it! I wish I had that problem of trying to gain weight instead of needing to lose it! My goal of course is to lose the weight I gained this year plus another 10-15 pounds. I really think I can do it once I set my mind to it. I plan to forget about real dieting plans until the New Year and then its GO, GO, GO and FAT BE GONE!!!

I want to be a healthier person in 2009. I would like to lose weight, keep to an exercise program(which I was doing until the holidays started) and hopefully come off of some of the medication I am taking right now. I was filling up my medicine in my days of the week holder and I realized how many medicines I have to take, it isn't pretty, so I would like to change that. I want for my children to be proud of me too, instead of wondering how many times I am going to try this before I succeed. Looking better would be the icing on the cake sort to speak. emoticon

My goals are to maintain the progress I have made this year and build on them. I am finally comfortable enough with myself that I have started and continued with counseling and mental health services for a full six months. I want to continue on the path I am on and build on it, perhaps increasing the number of foods I am comfortable eating (I've been a picky eater my whole life), going back to school to continue my education, and getting my health back to what it was in 2002. I don't know if that will include losing weight, but I hope to at least earn the next belt in my martial art in the next year, and that will take a lot of effort on my part. I am finally getting myself healthy mentally and physically, and I am going to keep at it!
