Chapter 14 Exodus v.14 The Lord will fight for you. All you need is to be still.

I cling to this passage time after time when things are difficult. Yesterday, as I was repeating this in my mind, I shifted the accent from the word "fight" to the word "for." It ever so subtly added meaning for me and gave me renewed strength. Today I pray I can remain still and let God's perfect plan for me work in my life.

Remember how angels fly . . . they take themselves lightly.

I just started reading Billy Graham's latest book, "Nearing Home." Has anyone read it?

"Nearing Home" is not merely about aging, but focuses more on finishing our lives well and leaving a positive legacy for those we leave behind. I've only read the first chapter so far, but would definitely recommend it.

Mother Teresa's prayer

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
... Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
... Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
... Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
... Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
... Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
... Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
... Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
... Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

We can do no great things - only small things with great love.

- Mother Teresa

To Be vs To Do

We all have long to-do lists. We cross off a few things on there if we had a "good day." Some of us will even add something we've already completed to our list just to feel good about ourselves. To have a sense of accomplishment. Ever done that before? I know I have!

What about choosing one thing "to be" everyday. Just one. Today you can be generous, kind, patient, compassionate, courageous, powerful, funny....

Each day, as you get up, pick a word. Have that be your guide in all that you then "do." Let it be your filter for everything you do that day.

As you transform your "beingness," all that you then "do" also starts changing. emoticon

And what an emoticon promise that is from our emoticon God. I have also wondered how others can survive without God and His promise to us. emoticon

Strength In Weakness

READ: Matthew 20:20-28

Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. —Matthew 20:26

No one wants to be weak, so we find ways to appear strong. Some of us use the force of our emotions to manipulate people. Others use the force of personality to control people, and some use intellect to intimidate. Although these create an illusion of strength, they are signs of weakness.

When we are truly strong, we have the courage to admit our limitations and to acknowledge our dependence on God. As a result, true strength often looks a lot like weakness. When the apostle Paul prayed that an affliction would be taken from him, God answered, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9). Paul responded with these troubling words: “When I am weak, then I am strong” (v.10).

Toward the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry, some of His disciples were striving for positions of prominence. Jesus used their argument as an opportunity to teach them that in His kingdom things are different: greatness comes when we willingly assume positions of weakness (Matt. 20:26).

This is a hard truth. I prefer the illusion of strength to the reality of weakness. But God wants us to realize that true strength comes when we stop trying to control people and start serving them instead. —Julie Ackerman Link

The life that we live for God’s glory,
Let’s live it in biblical light:
God’s strength is made perfect in weakness;
He alone controls power and might. —Branon

God’s greatest power can be displayed in our biggest weakness.

Precious in God's Sight
By Anne Graham Lotz

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you" (Isaiah 43:2 NIV).

Have your thoughts been similar to these? God, where have You been? Why did You let this happen? I just don't understand.

Are you overlooking the fact that Jesus has drawn near to you? Are you blinded to His presence by your own tears? Are you deafened to His gentle voice by your own accusations?

While God doesn't always protect those He loves from suffering or answer our prayers the way we ask Him to, He does promise in His Word that He will be present with us in the midst of our suffering and pain. He said, "Fear not. . . . When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. . . . For I am the Lord, your God . . . your Savior; . . . you are precious and honored in my sight, and . . . I love you" (Isa. 43:1-4, NIV).
___________________

I posted Anne's devotional today because this has always been one of my favorite passages. Sometimes things get so bad that all we can do is cling to that promise and I am so thankful for God's faithfulness. The world can ridicule Christianity all they want, but how on earth do people survive without this promise?!

Psalm 89:5-18

5.The heavens will praise Your wonders, O LORD ; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
6.For who in the skies is comparable to the LORD ? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the LORD,
7.A God greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, And awesome above all those who are around Him?

8.O LORD God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty LORD ? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9.You rule the swelling of the sea ; When its waves rise, You still them.

10.You Yourself crushed Rahab like one who is slain ; You scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm.

11.The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all it contains, You have founded them.
12.The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name.
13.You have a strong arm ; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted.
14.Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne ; Lovingkindness and truth go before You.
15.How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound ! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance.
16.In Your name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17.For You are the glory of their strength, And by Your favor our horn is exalted.
18.For our shield belongs to the LORD, And our king to the Holy One of Israel.

We have a great God; let's be very thankful for His salvation.

Blessings

This is the evening reading from Daily Light on the Daily Path...an old classic devotional that I love to read:

I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me. ? It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.

Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.

I beseech you, ... brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable ser-vice. ? Jesus ... that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. ? Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

Regardless of your circumstances, lift up your heart to God in praise.

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
For the Lord is the great God,
And the great King above all gods.
In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
The heights of the hills are His also.
The sea is His, for He made it;
And His hands formed the dry land
(Psalm 95:1-5).

But now, O Lord,
You are our Father;
We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand
(Isaiah 64:8).

This is this mornings reading taken from "Daily Light on the Daily Path" An old classic (i love it)
Hope it will encourage you as much as it does me.

Hope maketh not ashamed.

I am the LORD: ... they shall not be ashamed that wait for me. - Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. - Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength. - My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved. - I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed.

God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us; which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus.

Many times we don't understand why things happen as they do. It's only when we look back on the path of our lives that we see and understand that God was always there, in control and working things out for our good and His glory.

The story of Joseph clearly illustrates this.

So lets be encouraged, since God never changes, He's the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. If He was with us yesterday, He's still with us today, and most assuredly will be in all of our tomorrows.

We serve a faithful God, Who's mercies are new every morning!

Corrie, I enjoyed both of your devotional thoughts. John Piper is an excellent speaker and writer.

My daily Bible reading has just taken me into the account of Joseph's life and there is so much we can learn from him. Genesis 50:20, where Joseph is speaking to his brothers, is one of my favorite Scriptures: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." It really takes faith to accept that, however bad the circumstances in our lives, God has a plan for bringing about a good result.

That's true JanetR and I doubt that Joseph knew why he was stuck in that stinking prison!!
I think the point is that we have the ability to 'forgive' but we don't 'forget'....only God has that ability to Forgive & Forget our sins!! Praise the Lord, that is wonderful!

Joseph is one of the finest examples in the Bible of faithfulness in the face of tribulation. Wherever he was, Joseph lived for the glory of God. He demonstrated that he could be trusted in the tough times, thereby making himself eligible for God to use him in other settings. Joseph was faithful over small things, so God was able to set him over large things.

Most of our failures come with the small things. It rarely occurs to us that the challenge of the moment is to demonstrate ourselves faithful at that point. Then -- and only then -- will we be trusted in the greater things. Joseph is a good reminder.

This is an excerpt from a sermon by John Piper. If you'd like to read the entire sermon, follow the link below.

Hold Fast the Word

Hold fast to it for the sake of faith. “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17).

Hold fast to it for the sake of your joy. “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11).

Hold fast to it for the sake of your freedom. “If you abide in my word . . . and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).

Hold fast to it for the sake of your holiness. “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17).

Hold fast to it for the sake of the Holy Spirit. “Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith” (Galatians 3:5)?

Hold fast to it for the sake of life. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

Hold fast to it for the sake of strength and stability and fruitfulness. Your delight will be “in the law of the Lord, and on his law you will meditate day and night. You will be like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that you do you will prosper” (Psalms 1:2-3).

The Bible is such a precious gift that God has given to us.

I like those pictures, Carol. If you click on a picture, you can enlarge it and also read a short, inspirational message about it. I have a "thing" about lighthouses, so I love the Safe Harbor picture.

I was at the corner grocery store buying some early potatoes. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily apprising a basket of freshly picked green peas.

I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes.

Pondering the peas, I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller (the store owner) and the ragged boy next to me.

'Hello Barry, how are you today?'

'H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas. They sure look good.'

'They are good, Barry. How's your Ma?'

'Fine. Gittin' stronger alla' time.'

'Good. Anything I can help you with?'

'No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas.'

'Would you like to take some home?' asked Mr. Miller.

'No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with.'

'Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?'

'All I got's my prize marble here.'

'Is that right? Let me see it' said Miller.

'Here 'tis. She's a dandy..'

'I can see that. Hmmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home?' the store owner asked.

'Not zackley but almost.'

'Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red marble'. Mr. Miller told the boy.

'Sure will. Thanks Mr. Miller.'

Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me.

With a smile she said, 'There are two other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes, or whatever.

When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an orange one, when they come on their next trip to the store.'

I left the store smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short time later I moved to Colorado , but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys, and their bartering for marbles.

Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community and while I was there learned that Mr. Miller had died. They were having his visitation that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon arrival at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could.

Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts...all very professional looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed and smiling by her husband's casket..

Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket. Her misty light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket Each left the mortuary awkwardly, wiping his eyes.

Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and reminded her of the story from those many years ago and what she had told me about her husband's bartering for marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket.

'Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about.

They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim 'traded' them. Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about color or size....they came to pay their debt.'

'We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world,' she confided, 'but right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho .'

With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three exquisitely shined red marbles.

The Moral :

We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind deeds. Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath.

Today I wish you a day of ordinary miracles

~ A fresh pot of coffee you didn't make yourself...

An unexpected phone call from an old friend ....

Green stoplights on your way to work...

The fastest line at the grocery store..

A good sing-along song on the radio...

Your keys found right where you left them.

Dec. 24

On this day of your life, dear friend, I believe God wants you to know...

....that this is the eve of the birth of the Christ is you.

It is a re-birth, of course, for the Christ has always been

there. On this special eve, may you experience that

Presence in you, as you, through your sharing of the

love that has been brought to you directly from God.

The wonderful gift of Christmas is that it is not a one

day or one time experience, but lasts the whole year

through -- thanks to you. You are the gift, and as

you give, so shall you receive. emoticon

Soul Food

I love the taste of T-bone steak,
Delicious every bite,
But there's nothing like the Word of God,
For my spiritual appetite.

The Word of God has milk and meat,
And even ice cream and cake.
Take a slice of the Bread of Life,
And coffee to keep us awake.

Open your Bible and turn to Psalms,
For David's famous buffet.
You can drink all the wine of the word you want,
And still feel fine the next day.

There's enough of the Word for everyone,
And no one has to cheat.
The Word of God is a smorgasbord,
So take all you are able to eat.

Let's have a little long suffering,
Job gives the recipe.
Patience is the main ingredient,
Self denial is the fee.

Wrap that up in temperance,
It may not make much sense,
Cover that with contentment,
Then add some joy for strength.

Let's have love for dessert,
Jesus made this dish,
Cream of joy and peace together,
Sift out all selfishness.

Add some deeds of righteousness,
Enough to make it sweet.
Humility is the frosting,
That makes the dish complete.

Or are you on a diet,
Cause the race seems hard to run.
For a weight losing menu,
Try Hebrews 12 and 1.

Are you suffering from malnutrition,
And don't know what to do?
Your spiritual growth! seems hindered,
Try I. Peter 2 and 2.

If when every time you battle,
the enemy always wins,
Try some Holy Ghost Protein,
And spiritual vitamins.

God's Word can feed millions,
And still have plenty left.
Because the Word of God is Soul Food,
Sent from the World's Greatest CHEF.
Amen.

I got this in my mailbox today and had to share it. It is so beautiful and it was just the re-assurance I needed today. Hope it'll help others too.

October 26

"I got saved last night"
Ephesians 5:8-21
"... be filled with the Spirit ... always giving thanks to God the Father for everything ..." (vv.18 & 20)

The greatest single influence in turning a bad temper to a good temper is to be indwelt by the Spirit of God. Our text makes that abundantly plain. When the Spirit is allowed to dwell in us, He influences our reactions so that we respond to life's situations with praise rather than with pique.

A miner was notorious for his bad temper. His job was to look after the pit ponies, and whenever they did anything wrong, he would swear and hit out at them with a stick. When he got like this, strong men would keep out of his way, for they knew that he could as easily turn on them as he did on the horses.

One night he went to a Welsh revival meeting, got gloriously converted and experienced a mighty encounter with the Holy Spirit. Next day, at work, one of the horses stepped on his foot. The men with him waited for the explosion -- but nothing happened. One man asked: "Are you sick?" "No," replied the miner, "why do you ask?" "Well," said the man, "I know how quickly you get upset about things, and when the horse stepped on your foot and you didn't lose your temper, I thought you must be unwell." "I'm not unwell," said the miner, "I got saved and filled with the Holy Spirit last night."There is an interesting moment recorded in the life of Saul in 1 Samuel 10:27: "But some rebels said, 'How can this man save us?' So they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace" (NKJV). Had Saul maintained that same spirit, he would have been a great man!

Prayer:

Dear Father, let Your Spirit invade and take up His abode deep within me, so that in the hour of pressure and crisis, I shall react to everything in a truly Christian way. In Christ's Name I pray. Amen.

For Further Study
John 14:1-17; Ezek. 36:27; 1 Cor. 3:16
1. What did Jesus say concerning the Holy Spirit?
2. What have we become?

JanetE, thanks for being willing to share your testimony with us. It is upon reading these "true life stories" that we see the hand of God at work around us. That was every bit as good as any book I have read recently, even better because it's real life.

Janet, what a testimony! It's has to be a Supernatural God that deals with each person so individually and loves us! AND He will daily talk to us if we will listen for that still small voice!

OK finally...I actually checked out the "Introduce your family" thread because I thought I may have posted something about my testimony there but no, that's about Joseph...we started that thread last November.

Well hope this won't be too much of a blog for you all to read but it really starts when I was a little girl because I now realise that God knew His daughter even before I knew Him.
When I was 4 yrs old my dad left my mum with 3 children and she was pregnant with my little sister.
We had to move from the house into a large one room place with a shared bathroom. I suppose my mum was noticeable because my brother was 5, me 4, sister 18mths and then the baby. A lady called Joan who attended the Baptist Church at the bottom of the road befriended my mum and asked if she could take me & my brother to Sunday School, I don't remember it but she took us. My mum didn't believe in anything and didn't have any of her children baptised. She blasphemed and so we blasphemed too having no knowledge that it was wrong. Joan was a great support to my mum and of course was praying for each of us.
Later on when I was about 12 a lady came to our estate asking the children if they'd like to go to Sunday School every week, I went until I left school at 15.
It was there that I won a Bible. We were told that the first person that could recite every book in the Bible would win the Bible. There was a girl there called Esther and I was sure she would get it but in my heart, I wanted that Bible. The following week, when we were asked who knew the books of the Bible, my hand shot up quick and I did it, and won my Bible. I never read it but over the years, everywhere I moved my Bible came too.
When I was 19 I got married. He wasn't a bad man but he was possessive and I was in a battle all the time wanting to be myself yet feeling smothered. Over the years I became Ms Feminist!!! Finally after 22 yrs of marriage and my children being 21 & 18 I decided to leave and move into a flat (apartment) and live alone. I was in a good job with Social Services and could easily support myself, so off I went.
After just two weeks while I was at the local railway station...I met Joseph and we got talking! I didn't know then that he'd been away from the Lord for two years and two weeks before had met me had said to the Lord "Lord, if you give me a wife with your love, I'll come back and serve you." (Talk about perfect timing!!)
I asked Joseph why he'd never been married before and thinking...if he said "Well my mum doesn't let me out very often"...I'd be on my way!!LOL! But no, he said he'd never found anyone he wanted to be married to. Then he warned me that he didn't like bossy women, he already had a mother & two sisters!! I replied "Well, I easily dominate men, I don't want to do it but they let me do it so I do it!! Don't let me do it!!" Then he added, "Well don't think I'm looking for a wife to cook, wash & sew because I can do all those things myself!" I replied "AND, don't think I'm looking for a man to support me because I can support myself!!" (Talk about putting your cards on the table...we always laugh about that!!LOL)

Even that first meeting Joseph began telling me about how he'd met the Supernatural Living God in the Sinai Desert in Israel! Of course I knew nothing about such things but told him that I didn't disbelieve what he was telling me. Joseph told me he had two plans coming up...firstly in 6 weeks time he was going to visit his brother in San Francisco and stay for 6 weeks and secondly he was going to live in France again and would I consider going with him?
Well we got on very well together and enjoyed each others company and never stopped talking.
After we'd know each other only 6 weeks...off he went to the States...I was heart broken, I missed him so much! But it was during that time that the Lord set to work on ME!!
I had an appointment with a colleague (Pat) in another office. She was a Baptist and after we'd finished our business she looked at me and said "Now tell me about your Joseph." She listened and said she thought the Lord had His Hand on both our lives. She invited me to a Sunday morning meeting at her church and I found myself saying I'd go!! Now this was not like me...I did not go to church, I told dirty jokes, was used to swearing, blaspheming and had a pretty sharp nasty tongue!! That's the truth!
But here I was agreeing to go...and I did too. After the service she invited me back to the evening service where some young people were to be baptised, again I agreed. Then Pat & her husband invited me back to their house for a coffee and while I was there they asked if they could pray for me, I agreed.
As I was leaving she gave me a little book called "Everlasting life and how to receive it." She said she doubted I'd read it but I assured her I would. When I got into bed that very night I read the little book. Well...it was a simple salvation book and I got to the end I paused and read it over again and then asked myself "Is this what you really want to do?" I knew I did and repeated the prayer at the end of the book and declared myself a Christian! It felt pretty exciting and the next morning I said to myself "Right! now you have to stop swearing and blaspheming and stop being sarcastic to people!!" Well before I'd even got in my car to go to work I'd done two of those things and so knew I couldn't do anything alone...I needed Him!!
I got to work and they asked me if I'd had a good w/e and when I said "Yes, I became a Christian!!" Well...I thought they were all going to fall on the floor with shock!! My good friend Rosie said "Well Janet, if that's happened to you...there's hope for the rest of us!!" But oh boy...did they give me a hard time!! They actually preferred the 'old' Janet and didn't appreciate the work that the Lord had begun in me. Neither did my family...that was very hard but I stayed close to the Lord.
I phoned Joseph in the States and said "Guess what? Last night I became a Christian!" Silence!! He couldn't believe it...!! Then I started praying for him to come back to the Lord.
About two weeks later I was in my office talking to a fellow Christian and saying "Well...I don't know about all this praying...how do I know anyone is there?" She said "Well, we could ask Him to give you some proof." So she prayed.
About ten minutes later as I was leaving to go home, I went down the stairs to sign out in the lower office and then turned to go onto the street but I heard a VOICE call "JANET." I looked up because I thought there was someone calling me from the upstairs window, but no, nobody was there. Well, I thought it was strange because I had heard a literal VOICE...so turned to walk again! And there is was again "JANET!!" Well, I knew I now had my proof that there was Someone there! I found this absolutely amazing because it made me realise that He knew exactly where I was!! He didn't go to my flat or by my car, no...He knew where I was!!

One of the first people I wanted to tell that I'd become a Christian was Joan...she was so happy and said "All those prayers!" Joan is now 86 and I always make time to visit her when I'm in the UK.

Joseph returned from the States and told me that the last Sunday he was with his family they had invited him out to a cocktail party with them but he said no he felt like finding a church to go too. They assured him that there were no churches around except in the city. He was not deterred and starting walking down a few streets and then he thought he could hear some gospel singing. He stopped outside a door to listen and as he did the door flung wide open and he almost fell in! The man shook his hand warmly and invited him in. It was a church of black people and Joseph was the only white man present. Everyone was worshipping the Lord and having a wonderful time and then the preacher came to the platform and after his message he asked if there was a backslider present who would like to reconsecrate their life to the Lord. Joseph knew that was the Lord calling him back again. Praise the Lord!

Although I was joyous to now be a Christian I was having a very hard time...Joseph was concerned that he was getting involved with a woman who'd been married before and who had two children who didn't appear to like him. I was distressed that left my husband and also had two children falling apart!
BUT...the Lord said to me "If I hadn't taken you out of that, you would not have come to Me!"
That straightened me up and I knew there was no looking back, I had to face what lay ahead.

I picked up my little Bible and wondered "How does this book begin?" I read the beginning of Genesis...In the beginning God!! I thought...yes I believe that. Now, how does this book end? I turned to Revelations 22 and read that whoever adds or takes away from the prophecy of this book, his part shall be taken out of the book of life! I thought "Whew!! this is serious!!" And realised that I must be obedient to God's Word always.

I had never got on very well with my mother and one year before I came to the Lord, I had meanly written her a letter telling her why I didn't want to see her again. Well of course I knew that I'd have to be the one to go to her because she never would have come to me.
It was approaching Mother's Day and I'd passed by a shop and seen some cards and smugly thought "Huh I don't have to buy one of those this year!" I got into my car and was driving along and something said to my heart "Buy her a card!" I said "I'm not buying her a card!" It came again..."Buy her a card!" I said "Oh Lord, I can't just send a card"...He said "Write her a letter!" This filled me with horror!! I said "OK Lord, I'll get the paper & pen, you write the letter!" And He did too, He gave me exactly what to say to her. I sent the card but heard nothing.
It was Easter time and I always gave my young niece an easter egg and after I finished work early one afternoon I decided to call at my sister's and give Holly the egg. There was nobody at home...then I remembered that this was the day of the week she would be with my mum!! I took that to be from the Lord and very nervously rang her door bell...Holly answered and shouted "Oh Granny, Auntie Janet's here!" I went in and she gave me a hug and we talked for a while before I went home. Up until her death two years ago I always had to pray to the Lord to soften her heart and sweeten me towards her. She never accepted the new/different Janet but I believe she loved me in her own way...I like to think so anyway.
So this began with my mum and ended with her.
I do hope this testimony has been a blessing to you and I did mention my Supernatural God...I know Him for myself...do you? Have you had a personal experience where you can say "Yes I know the Lord because He met with ME!!" That is the same VOICE that will call us UP on day soon I believe.
There are many voices today but only ONE VOICE!!! The VOICE of GOD!!!

Janet, I'm with Sue; I'd like to hear your faith story. You may have told us before, and I know bits and pieces, but I'd love to hear it again. My faith grew as a result of being raised in a loving Christian home and I know that's a testimony of God's faithfulness. But I'm always inspired when people meet Christ as an adult.

That sounds like an interesting book Carole...
You know, when I first met Joseph and he started witnessing to me about God,,,I was asking questions like:
Well, where did He come from? Joseph said He was just always there! And when I began reading Genesis 1, I just could not comprehend how great this God was who could do those things! Even now...sometimes I let my mind race around and never come to any final conclusion because I am in such awe that He is there and the same One. The same One that Job knew and John on the Isle of Patmos.

I'm reading a book called "God: As He Wants You to See Him" by Chip Ingram. I started out reading it to help support our pastor's sermon series on the attributes of God, but am thoroughly enjoying it. Each chapter deals with a particular area, like God’s goodness, sovereignty, holiness, wisdom, justice, love, and faithfulness. I'll write more as I get further into it, but I highly recommend Ingram's book. Chip Ingram is the director of Walk Thru the Bible, by the way.

Since most of us enjoy reading, I'd like to use this thread for us to share about books we're currently reading that inspire us or help us to grow in our daily faith walk. It might be a Christian living book, a biography, or even fiction. Please share!
