I wanted to post the information that Kris (KJNE8O) gave me on tracking fruits & veggie servings, in case anyone needs it. In addition to tracking your fruits and veggies with all your food under each meal or snack category, there is also a "Quick Track" box appear at the top of your "Nutrition Tracking" page that has a ticker for fruit and veggie servings. For those who want to keep track of the overall servings, simply go to your home/start page and in the left-hand column, underneath the "Weigh In" box, there should be a "Quick Track" box that you can open and click "Show".
Thank you KRIS!

"Another question for additional food/nutrient tracking: How can we track our fruits & veggies?"

Not sure what you are looking for here - at the top of the food tracker there is a ticker for fruits & veggies that you tick up as you eat your servings. Other than that I stick the fruits and veggies that I eat in the categories that they fall into - bfast, lunch, etc. You could, if you wanted to, create a group called Fruits & Veggies and put all your stuff in there...Is that what you're looking for?

Thank you to everyone! That was very informative. Kris and Cathie, your information has been very helpful. Thank you for the link and the advice.
Now, I just have to see if maybe I am receiving iron but the tracker isn't showing it. I wonder is there any way to adjust this with Sparkpeople? In the meantime, I'll check out that link Cathie.

If you are using the nutrition tracker to track iron you may be missing some of the information. For example, if you look for Breast of Chicken and enter that from the tracker it may not list what the iron content is... and not all foods list that either! You may be fine with your iron and not know it.

As for supplements - I would look for a good balanced multivitamin/mineral for women with Calcium, D, and Iron. Add that to the tracker - and yes, iron is constipating! You will need to up your fiber to the high end of your range. I've also learned that if you eat on the high end of your fiber range your body gets used to it and you can start to tolerate higher levels than what is in the SP tracker. If you start to have digestive troubles due to high fiber back off on that and see if it helps.

HTH!

I have the same trouble with potassium.

Sorry can't really help about the iron, and I should, but never really took the time to investigate, silly since I know I am iron deficient!!!

Thanks to everyone for their advice. What is odd, is that I eat foods high in iron, or so I thought, and plenty of fruits, veggies and protein (even when I eat vegetarian). Of my carbs, protein and fiber, I make the requirements regularly without going over or coming in under too often - but I just can't even seem to come close to making my iron intake. I think a supplement will have to do. Any suggestions on supplements? Is there a difference between taking a multi-vitamin with iron versus a solely iron supplement? Pros vs. Cons?

I have not taken the time to notice my iron, since I was pronounced anemic the last time I was in the hospital, I was surprised they did not recommend anything.

My brother once told me that if you have arthritis, taking an OTC supplement can actually aggravate the arthritis, I know he cited his research and I have taken that to heart.

The only thing you can do is look at all the iron rich foods, find the ones you like and try to incorporate them into your meal plan. Otherwise, a supplement may be an option, I would guess a good mulivitimin would be your best bet.

Sorry, I am of no help. I have never really thought about tracking my iron. I track my saturated fats, sodium and fiber. I will tell you that I am often below on my fiber. I am working really hard to improve the numbers some but I only hit the recommended allowance probably 2-3 days per week.

Best of luck to you.

Is anyone out there tracking their iron? I recently started to do so and have noticed that I am very low. This is the one item on my nutrition guide/tracker that I don't even come close to meeting. It is recommended that I reach 100 & 150%RDA each day on my tracker and I am averaging 25.
I eat plenty of protein daily, so I am having a hard time understanding how I am so low.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any advice?
