My husband and I just got back from Belize this past August. We loved it we are planning a trip back hopefully the first week in January 2-9, As travel agents we can get a group rate if we are able to book 8 rooms double occupancy which included discounts on diving as well. Please email me if interested and I can forward you some pricing if we get enough people to go. It's high season and very reasonable to eat, etc. there. WE would be staying on the island of Ambergris Cay which is simply lovely. Everyone is English speaking and extremely friendly. : ) this would be truly a trip of a lifetime. Airfare depends on where you leave from. It is approx. $600 from LAX.

Airfare to Mexico is really cheap right now. I can get it for 286.00 round trip out of Cola SC for 13 Feb - 20 Feb. I think I'm gonna fly into Cancun...stay in Playa Del Carmen....and Ferry over to Cozumel for a few dives. Anyone wanna tag along?

We haven't discussed much about the group dive trip lately. Cozumel was wonderful, and is the most reasonable place I can think of to go! We really should set a date, place, etc and do this!!!

Wow I wish I could go with you guys! Too bad I'll be in Hawaii =( (I mean, HAHA, I'll be in Hawaii!!) LOL

Someone already threw it out there and I would also recommend Curacao. I don't know what peoples' buudgets are but I stayed for a week at a dive resort called Habitat Curacao, the whole trip cost me about 2 grand including airfare.

http://www.habitatcuracaoresort.com/

They have 24 hour shore dives plus 2 boat dives a day, a great house reef (practically a few kick strokes from their dock), nice divemasters, NO GEAR HAULING b/c their tank filling station and lockers are right at the beach, etc. etc. It was a good time. Whew, good luck choosing, you've got a lot of great options.

I don't know how you all feel about cruises...but I just booked a Princess Cruise out of Ft Lauderdale for me and hubby. Total for 2 (cruise, and tax) is 1416.72 with 75.00 on board credit. It's the Emerald Princess on 18 October 2009....seven nights from Fort Lauderdale....to Princess Cays, St Maarten, St Thomas, and Grand Turk. I'd love to see you all on board. Just thought I'd pass along this amazing deal. Lourie

Woo Hoo!!!! Let's DO IT!!!!!!

I dunno about airfare. I buddy-passed it to Aruba and puddle-jumped over. Turned out not to be much cheaper, but I have Aruba adventure stories from a 17-hour stay!

I'll check Sidestep, FareCompare, Kayak, etc....

Hmmmm... I can't remember for sure. I think they were booked separately - I know I paid for the second week's diving separately...
I boat and shore dived every day as I remember.
I believe tanks and weights were included, though the nitrox was extra, I believe. I wasn't nitrox certified then...

It's been 3-4 years since I went...
And I tend to blow off thinking about how much I spend on vacations....

Nice Sallye! I was looking at the dive packages. They they actually charge you for tanks & weights on top of the dive rate or is it included?

Looks like their room rate w/ the dive package only offers 2 - 2 tank boat dives and all the rest are shore dives. Do you get a room and book your dives separately?

I must admit to having been mighty sick on a live-aboard or two, but I'm usually not, and the diving has been TOTALLY worth it! I love the dive, eat, dive, eat, dive, dive, eat, dive, sleep... pace of life. I'm usually ready for a walk-about on shore-day (or evening or whatever), but I'm at least as ready to get back underwater at my next opportunity!

Oh, Michela, I'll take you guys along - though you might have to sleep on the floor! I'm hoping to spend a chunk of Christmas holidays in South Florida with a gang of dive-girl-buddies from a decade and a half ago. It's the same gang whose trip fell apart and left me in Mexico (boohoo - heehee). I'm excited that we are going to get together again. I'm hoping to get down there at least once more before then.

I've got the February countdown started, but as Liang said - it seems like forever! And that week is going to FLY by...

Ooooohhhhhhhh! I guess waxing sentimental isn't an appropriate response to jealousy!

So... what's the latest on the TEAM TRIP?!?!

This is my first time over at this board, I'm getting the vibe that next summer is the tenative date set right? I might be able to dive by then!!! woohoo! My BF would definitly be in for it, we'd have to see about the time off though. I went with him on a dive trip to Roatan last year in March, it wasn't peak time and it was beautiful! Even just for me snorkeling I saw to most colorful reefs and it was so clear! The veteran divers we were with said it was one of the most colorful walls they had seen. And their food was fabulous too emoticon .
But, I'd be interested in anything that is choosen the only thing we'll be worried about is getting the time off and what to do with the kids....Im not saying a positive yes right now, but definilty interested!

My husband and I just got back from dining in the Turks & Caicos Islands in he Caribbean. It was awesome. As travel agents, we spoke to every lodging facility and every dive shop and can get good group rates for a return trip. We're are planning the trip for New Years Break from approx. Mon-Mon Dec. 29 - Jan. 5 2009. If interested let us know. We have a travel site like Travelocity and very competitive rates. Everyone would book their own air in addition to the package price we can get on the lodging and dives. Diving is $70/day for 2 tank boat dives and unlimited shore dives on Grand Turk. I believe Providenciales is the same. We're planning 3-4 days on each island with a total of 4-5 days of diving. WE can be flexible on the arrival dates if you let us know. We woould need deposits by mid August. Our site is www.KBParadiseTravel.com and our email is KBParadiseTravel@gmail.com. It would be great to go back and let you know which dive sites on your stay would meet your desires. They are all great!!!

Stayed at Sunset Waters a couple of years ago. Loved it. Good house reef, nice folks, all inclusive - even alcohol. Pool bar...

I'm just me - one diver.
Bonaire is really good. Surrounded by a 150' wall. Shore dives are marked by painted numbered rocks. You get tanks, find a rock, read your guide map/book and jump in. Some entries are challenging, some easy. At least one boat trip to Klein Bonaire is worth the price...

Town pier is a great dive. Sea horses, friendly eels, octopi... Did that dive with Dee Scarr. She was kind enough to go with me even though I didn't have enough people for her usual requirement. If you don't know Touch the Sea, it's worth a read. Petted a scorpionfish named Rodney. He was chasing us along wanting a treat and a pet. TOO funny galumphing along the bottom...

So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I absolutely agree that significant others SHOULD come if they want to!

Bonaire has great deals when you have 6 people per condo. I don't have any idea what it takes to get there. They have dive packages where you get unlimited refills on tanks, there's supposed to be great shore diving, you get a 4 person vehicle. Say we got 2 of these condos. We'd just have to rent one extra vehicle, and everyone would be covered. 12 people, 3 4-person vehicles. I think I saw a week for $629 in the inside of the front cover of the most recent Scuba Diving Magazine. That's for this year, but I suspect it won't be much different next summer. If the accommodations aren't too expensive and you can do a lot of shore diving which saves boat diving money, then maybe a little more expensive airfare would be doable?

How many people do we think we'd have including significant others?

Any opinions here? I've never been to Bonaire, but I'm totally game.

I can do anything I set my mind to doing.

Doesn't matter to me where we go, as long as its inexpensive. And, yes, I think anyone with a significant other should bring them if they want to.

We were saying we wanted to do something other than Coz next summer but that was before the possibilty of a group trip.Still open to going again if it's easier for everyone & the budget. I am assuming we are all agreeing to bring our other half. If not that wipes out July for me as it's our vacation time!
I would love to go to Honduras but travelling from here in the summer is very difficult and costly.

Sounds like everyone here is kinda saying next summer except Cdn.

Mich is saying last two weeks of July next year. I've been to Coz then before. It's hot. BUT, it's interesting; you just accept that you're going to be sweating your butt off and you deal with it.

I thought of another place, too. Casa Martillo - it's a condo complex where all the condos open to the middle pool area. And there's a place called Summer Place Inn that has a great big upstairs area that sleeps a pile of people. Both of these places are in town, unlike the other place, the houses, which were out of town.

I don't know anything about Utila. I've heard a TON of great stuff about Roatan, Honduras, too.

Is there anyone who COULDN'T make it sometime the last two weeks of July next year? That would probably be fine for me to wait for, too, as I think we're taking on another two exchange students, cuz we like having our hearts broken. That would be something nice to look forward to after they leave.

What if we figured out the dates, and then figured out where? Please don't think the only place I'm interested in is Coz. That's just the only place I really know, and I've been there I think 5 times now? Maybe 6?

I'm totally in. BTW, I know no one's decided where or anything, but last time I was in Coz, my buddy Sergio took us to this new area where there were a bunch of new houses for rent right on a beach, with a pool. Big houses, lots of room to share. Not really near town, but not near town still isn't very far away from town. The dive boats will come right to the area and pick divers up. It was absolutely stunning. If you're interested in pictures, let me know, and I'll put what I have on google and put a link here.

This trip would be totally cool! I really hope we get this put together!

We could probably get off cheap renting a house if everyone is adventurous about where they're staying and who they're staying with.
Diving has always been that way for me starting with bunk beds in a bunk house for open water trip.
That's pretty mild compared to some set ups I have enjoyed on trips!
Just an idea, since a number of folks have mentioned $$ concerns.

Next summer would be best for me, too. By then I could save a little money to be able to go. It would be so awesome to meet everyone in person! Trip would have to be inexpensive for me, too.

I can wait until next summer. I'm taking classes in the Fall and Spring but summers are free and are an easier time to get vacation time. The only place I've gone so far is New England, so I am up for any other location.

Fall's out for me other than a weekend trip.
I have breaks Presidents' Day week, and the first full week of April.
Other than those, Thanksgiving or Christmas are my only times until the second week of June. Then I am open until about the first of August.

For some reason, school isn't very tolerant of my being gone a week that isn't scheduled for the kiddies to be off!!

Thanks for starting the board, Mich.
I'm still packing and shouldn't be sitting here doing this! Did get a new swimsuit this afternoon though. It's RED!

Sounds like fun to me. We're pretty flexible. Let's see what happens!

If we can be courageous one more time than we are fearful, trusting one more time than we are anxious, cooperative one more time than we are competitive, forgiving one more time than we are vindictive, loving one more time than we are hateful, we will have moved closer to the next breakthrough in our evolution.

Yes for me! We can try to squeeze a week in late fall sometime or maybe a week in the spring. Our next available vacation time would be last 2 weeks of July so that a whole year away! The fall & spring is iffy but if we can get something going we would try to work to make it happen.

I started this in the lounge,so for everyone that is interested on a group trip, sign up here and let us know your available times.

Hopefuly we can narrow it down and make this happen.
Then we can pick a spot everyone is ok with as far as location & budget.
