Love a good challenge. So far used elliptical for 30 minutes and in a few am going to take dog for his 40 minute(2.3 mile ) walk. Anyone wanting to help me with functional fitness please do not hesitate to write. Have a great day.

I had planned on going for walks all week, but with this smoke, it's just not fesable for me (and my asthma) to go for a cardio walk in the ick - I went outside for about 5 min and my eyes were burning from it - YUCK

But, yesterday I got in 30 min (20min Dancing & 10 housework)

I just got the Wii Fit today, OMG that is the funnest way to get in my workouts. I did Yoga, Strength and Cardio, and my niece and I laughed and giggled the whole time. Between the two of us we had to be on it for almost three hours. I think my cardio is going to be much easier to get now.

Doing good with my cardio again. I've been kinda at a stand still, so I've had to up the intensity of my workouts to loose weight again. Hopefully, I'll see the results soon.

That's amazing, Emmasmom9. I was thinking (but haven't done anything about it yet) about entering the Bell Kidsphone walkathon for 5 km. I have been walking about 2 miles most days but did nothing today. Will be going to the gym tomorrow and hitting those cardio machines.

I wish I could run a block - let alone 5 miles. Congrats! emoticon

I've been getting in 30 min. or more of cardio everyday, except Sunday. (That's when I rest.) On my strenght training days I still do my cardio and actually workout about 1 1/2 hours on those days (Mon,Wed,Fri). I've been with SP going on three weeks now and it seems to be working.

Yes, it is hard. I go for a run in the morning and then go to work and Patricia can use the computer during the day. Then we go for a swim after dinner and then I get on the computer and get my messages. It just means doing things a bit different but it works ok. I tried to leave a meassage on your page but could not do so. Jeremy

I know I find difficulty balancing the two things.
It take quite a bit of time online everyday, but it is that interaction that keeps my motivation up.

Jeremy and I are going to ride our bikes to the pool, go to the gym while Niriki is playing with the children and then we are all going to have a swim. We are trying to do good and get high scores on the Life Style Scale. Our goal is to always get more than 20 and we have done this most of the time. Jeremy is beating him so I am trying to catch up with him. I am drinking more water and this is helping. Patricia

I walk my Boxer dog 1 mile, twice a day (rain, sleet,or snow). I try to do the elliptical or treadmill for 20 minutes 3-4 times a week

I try to do 30 to 60 minutes a day walking ,a mile in 17 to 20 minutes, and I do a work out video atleast 3 times a week,

I got in 30 minutes of cardio at Curves last night 04/14/08.

I can honestly say other than in PE class as a child I have never done a workout. Phew didn't know if I was going to make it but I did the whole thirty minutes. I was so proud of myself and I am looking forward to going again today.

I got my cardio in yesterday 4/14...40min on Cross Trainer Elliptical, 2min jog on treadmill (longest I ever jogged), and 10min walking on treadmill (cooldown). I am thinking of going up and down the stairs of my building after the biggest loser, we will see. I am tired, I just worked out for at least an hr for 3days in a row.

I got/counted in 30 minutes of heavy cleaning. My sister broght over 2 & 1/2 garbage bags of clothes, for MaKayla. We (she) tried them on and decided if it was a keeper Summer, Keeper Winter, or Pass along. We seemed to have clothes every where. Great workout though. MaKayla would take an article of clothes off and throw it. I would have to go get it and bend over an pick it up. I did that about 300 times today.

2BEFITBY09, Congrats on your 90 minutes today!

I'm pleased with my 40 minutes. Aside from basic picking up the house and laundry; I did 20 minutes of jogging, 10 minutes mopping and sweeping, and 10 minutes vaccuming.

I'm up for the challenge! I don't have a lot of time on the weekends, but there's always cleaning to be done, or as my Mam-maw says "Happy Housework". So I should be able to get in 30 minutes of heavy cleaning a day.

I want SUNSHINE so I can go outside. I ran yesterday and did the elliptical today. About 40 minutes each. Geeze I need to wash my gym clothes.

I did spring cleaning yesterday for a solid 3 hours!! I was exhausted and a bit sore even :) But it's fun when you make it like a workout and see how fast you can sweep and mop the floor for example. I have a 2 yr old, so I know what the one gal is saying...I did find that going outside with a ball or bubbles and chasing her while shes chasing them is a lot of good exercise!! That's the best kind to get...you can get your heart rate up and STILL be interacting with your kids and they are having FUN :)

Hi all! Yesterday I did 50 minutes of cardio. I did the Turbo Jam 20 minute cardio, and 30 minutes of treadmill (walk/run).

You can calculate cleaning under "heavy cleaning". How old are your kids? If you are up for it, you can try waking up an extra 15 min early before everyone to workout. If you watch tv, you can try doing some pushups or crunches during commercials. Just some ideas :)

I am a 75% stay at home mom,(I work 1-3 days a week)I have a husband who works nights and three active kids. Doing a tape, or using any exercise equip. doesn't work for me. I try so hard to work it in to my schedule, but as I am doing them I feel guilty for not getting anything around the house accomplished. So I have learned to compensate by doing my housework like a circuit training work out. I keep myself going, for a minimum of 30 minutes and sometimes for 2 hours straight! One week I earned up to 18 WW activity points. How do I calculate them in the Cardio section?

You can count stair climbing under cardio- either under "stair step machine" or "aerobic-light", once you find other forms of cardio then you don't need to count it in.

Cardio ideas for the home:
gardening
heavy cleaning
painting
mowing/raking lawn
moving: carrying boxes
shoveling snow

How about buying some exercise dvd's? there is a great selection out there, Denise Austin's cardio walking for example for beginners, TaeBo for intermediate to advanced, yoga dvds...so many out there. Also, investing in some light free weights (1lb-10lb), stability ball, medicine ball, jumping rope, exercise band....these are all relatively inexpensive and can be used at home or even for travelling. Choose one or two to start with, and check out SparkPeople's exercise demos on how to use some of these.

When you watch TV, do some pushups, or crunches either on the floor or on your stability ball during commercials, your kids can even join in! Make a game/challenge out of it and have fun :)

Just throwin some ideas out there :)

Does walking up and down the stairs to do laundry count as cardio??? I thought it did and if so how many calories are burned??? I think I walked up and down about 2o times yesterday. Mondays are laundry days for me!!! Also, I am a stay at home mom so what other things can I do for that cardio work out?? Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!!!

Wonderful! If I can add in all the household chores I do all weekend, then my goal for the weekends will be a breeze! One thing I'm trying to remember to do is when I unload the dishwasher, to do squats as I pick dishes out of the dishwasher. I did that a few nights ago, and let me tell you, my legs were burning the next day. It's just remembering to do them.

Great!!! Weekends are hard for me too, just remember, you can always include things that we do around the house, like gardening, while you are still getting started!

Here are some cardio ideas:

Walking/Jogging/Running
All kinds of sports (even golf, bowling...)
Aerobics/Calisthenics/Martial Arts
Leisure activities (canoeing, sledding, snorkeling...)
Home Activities (gardening, heavy cleaning, shoveling snow...)

If you are new to fitness, take it slow! No need to overdo it. Start with 10min of cardio then gradually work yourself up to 30min then eventually even more :) Don't forget about all the household chores that we do on a regular basis anyway.
