I didn't make my goal of 70 miles. I did reach 61 1/4 miles and since I've only been running for a few months I'll be satisfied with it.

My April total is 109 so I achieved my goal of 100 miles for the month.

But more importantly is that I registered for the Marine Marathon today so now I'm really committed. After I run my half-marathon on May 18, take some time off, then I'll be training anew.

Well I am feeling bad because I skipped the sacred long run last weekend...but I sort of had to because I had a monster headache all weekend. UGH. Plus I had to hop a plane Monday afternoon, stay overnight in Phoenix and then hop another plan home Tuesday morning. I am bushed. I ran Monday morning for a measely 2 miles. I had 12 miles on my shedule for the weekend long run. I am bummed I couldn't do it but then again I wonder if I should just carry on with my training schedule from here...my next half is May 3rd in less than two weeks now. Ugh. I am considering passing on the full marathon in June anyways because the longer runs on the weekends are just too much for my schedule and energy levels right now. The half I think I can do but now I am scared I won't do well. What should I do?

When I figured my goal for this challenge I added in my cross training of briskly walking for an hour twice a week. Oops! My goal is 70 miles and I'm at 42 3/4 so to reach my goal I'm going to have to add in a few short runs. If the weather would warm up it would help.

Thanks, RunnerMom! I think I did okay and it was an especially tough course! It was hot out too (nearly 80 degrees) and close to noon by the time I finished in 2:35:25 (my time, still waiting on the official chip times). I think I did okay though and you're right, it's an automatic PR lol. Next month when I do my second half marathon, I hope to get a PR closer to 2:15 because there are no hills, its paved (this 1st one was all dirt and rocks) and shouldn't be as hot as its near a river. Wish me luck!

Thanks again for the encouragment. Oh and after today's slow 3 mile recovery run, I am at 45 miles for the month. YIPEE!

Hey! Happy Birthday and Good Luck with your first half marathon this weekend! The three most important pieces of advice I will give you ... drink lots of water this week, sleep long and well on Thursday night, and HAVE FUN on Saturday! It's your first one, so it's automatically your PR (personal record)! :)

HA! I finally found this thread! I got the email about it but couldn't find it...duh. Lol.

Well my goal is to log 120 miles this month...we'll see if I make it after lowering my training plan a bit to a lower mileage plan but I should just squeak in there with enough (I hope)!

My first half marathon is this Saturday, wish me luck!

Oh and today is my birthday...gotta toot my own horn on this one!! 33!!! Lol.

I have done 23 miles so far...97 to go!

100 miles in April

My first half-marathon is May 18, The Historic Half, (the inaugural Marine half-marathon). I ran the Marine 10K in October 2007 and will run the Marine Marathon in October 2008 as my first marathon. My son is a Marine in Iraq (coming home soon!) which is why I started running: gotta be able to run all the way to Iraq if he ever needs his Mommy!

I'm training on my own (following a plan from Runners World) so I'm intersted in hearing how other people train for a half or full marathon.

April total: 78 miles (so far)

My April mileage goal is 75 miles. That's more than I've run the last three months combined, unfortunately, but I'm back up near the weight I was when I started Spark in August 2006 and I don't like it. Plus, I have a half marathon in mid-June and I feel terrible and nervous about it all the time. Thanks for this challenge. I need SOMETHING! :(

Since the ankle is still dicey, I'm going to aim for 600 minutes and not commit to spending them all running!

It's very hard to understand in the beginning that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants to quit. - anon

Someday you will no longer be able to do this. Today is NOT that day!
