I really hate that I didnt find this team prior to this challenge.

I am currently working on spending more time learning and balancing my chakras as part of my inner work to bring more peace, balance, and security into my life. I have been working through the book 'The Complete Idiots Guide to Chakras' that I checked out at my local library. It has been really informative and really breaks down the information. I am still in the process of exploring the team and all of its threads, but I already feel I am going to find a wealth of information on here.

I read some of the posts a couple of days ago and I have been thinking about some of the comments on fear. I started the thread "Releasing Fear" and am interested in hearing any comments you may have on how you dealt or are dealing with your fears.

This is another Crown meditation - it's not guided, but healing sounds by Jonathan Goldman. I enjoy it more without the visual, the music is so intense, the visual tends to overload my simple brain.

I had back to school night tonight and a very busy day out with the boys so I have not had time to start the Third Eye Chakra challenge. I will post about it in the afternoon (EST) tomorrow and let me know if you would like the challenge to actually begin on Friday or wait until Monday since it seems we slow down on the weekends. Thanks. =)

Day 7 ~ I tried (somewhat successfully) to practice yesterday's meditation in my sitting practice this morning, mixed with a little gratitude reflection. I've been re-reading de Mello's Way to Love and concentrating on releasing attachments. I've had two experiences this week that would have upset me in the past, but I'm delighted to say that I am learning to let go.

emoticon Day 7 ~ Today is our last day focusing on the root before we move onto the third eye chakra. After a week of absorbing information and guided practices, I ask that today you sit on your own. Use any of the tools I have shared to help you open your crown chakra. For the final day on this chakra, I ask that you write about your experience this past week. How have you grown spiritually?

Do not forget the practice in upcoming weeks. Remember all the chakras work together. emoticon

Day 6~ In my Gratitude meditation, I have been ‘playing’ with images of white light from Source into my body and back to Source, linking myself to all others in thanksgiving, but I was curious why we were to envision the violet surrounding us and learned:
- Violet symbolically represents the crown chakra
- People with violet auras are supposed to be forward looking visionaries
- Violet represents the harmony of the universe (in Chinese painting) because it’s a combination of red and blue (yin and yang respectively)

I like very much the idea of ‘coming back’ and ending to “open your eyes and notice the refreshing awareness of NOW", but find I never really leave. I am hopeful one day my skills will develop to the point where I do.

emoticon Day 6 ~ Today's meditation comes from David Pond's book, Chakra's for Beginners. "Draw a beam of white light and trace the movement of the white light down through the chakras and, let it rise to your Crown Chakra and out. Picture a violet glow surrounding you and as you hold your breath, fill yourself with this light. Realize that you are no longer alone as a separate being; you are one with all. Feel the sense of spiritual protection as you align with the Divine. Breathe out and send the energy of your being to the Divine and the world around you. With your eyes still closed, begin to sense that you are sitting in the room. Again become aware of your surrounding noises and smells. Still keeping your breathing regular, open your eyes and notice the refreshing awareness of NOW." Share with the group your experience.

felt the energy of groundedness and the light of spiritual energy moving through me, particulary noted the waiting for the next thought to arrive and the certainty about relationships was a special gift... learning to hear that quiet voice amidst the clanging and banging of life is such a blessing... Thank you for guidance here!

My apologies for tardiness; my computer has been infected by a virus that sometimes allows access and sometimes not…

Day 3 ~ Saturday
Spiritual desires: To learn to be grateful for everything, to become compassionate, to release myself from attachments
Cultural desires: To remodel my kitchen, to improve my yard, to give back the gift of living in a wonderful home, to be accepted by my family
Desires that contaminate happiness: Acceptance by family is the primary desire that holds sway over my happiness as I fear rejection following our family lawsuit. As I learn to release myself, I will understand I am already happy.

Day 4 ~ Sunday
Triggers for anxiety or stress: This followed yesterday perfectly as my trigger is family disharmony
Paused and released: I have no control over others’ feelings or attitudes. I can only attempt to be more sensitive to their needs. As an example, my DH and I took the dogs out into the field, after returning he needed to eat so when I fixed lunch he was not hungry. Initially miffed, I waited for our next encounter to let him know I was not angry and we finished yard work together.

Day 5 ~ Monday
The guided meditation was wonderful. The part about being ‘certain about relationships’ was another reminder to let go of worry about my family – that what will be will be.

The stresses placed on each of us by life in 2010 are many. Will I have enough money, will I have enough time, am I doing all that I can to raise healthy, happy children,I think these things are universal, and I fall victim to them also. However, I find that I become stressed, as an individual when I become overwhelmed. Wegman's overwhelms me. The silly, but truthful bickering my husband and children do overwhelms me. When I have too many things started or become unorganized I become overwhelmed. And, when I give in to my natural tendency to become overly self critical I become overwhelmed. In each of these cases the answer, for me, is the same. I need to stop, and listen to my breath, and if possible meditate. Then I can become re-centered.

I was going to watch stress today as it arose and make a note of it.

It's Sunday, I'm alone at my house with the dogs...honestly, no stress there

; emoticon

Work is where the stress comes in, driving makes me anxious, that's one of my fears. I have decided to walk to work and ride the bus, still, I have to have a car for work at least once a week. I do what I've always done when I drive, pray and take the slow easy route.

The hate we see in the media makes me anxious. I don't watch much tv, but I do read the newspaper and internet comments. I try to keep in a state of prayer for the ones so scared and hateful...sometimes I get scared and hateful too emoticon

Sometimes on my job I am placed into a situation where a person is angry, frightened and frustrated; usually on the telephone. I try to take a breath to center myself...then hold them in prayer. I don't always remember, but when I do I can tell by the persons voice that they have found some comfort.

Years ago, I rode a business to the bottom. I was so scared every day and every night because of money. Something always came through and I learned to trust. I'd never want to go through that experience again, but the lessons I learned were priceless.

Thank you dear Sparkies for sharing. I love the open hearted honesty I see.

Day 3
I wish to be secure in my self worth. shine bright inside and out, no longer be a nay sayer. These are things I can work with and on.
Day4
Stress, hmmm, let me count the ways.......
It all boils down to control. Work, finance, adult children, health. I have little control of others, what I do have is control of my actions, reactions and not owning them.

These are so healing! Thank you for taking us on this journey.

sorry getting this out late but better than never I guess.
I have many fears but most of them are being left alone somehow, I know where this stems from, as a child I had friends but they seem to disappear as I got older, moving away, my mom did not make it easy she always made me feel as I had (always) done something wrong and made me feel incapable of taking care of me..
I love making things, for a birthday party I had my hubby mix concrete and we used pie pans etc to create stepping stones, each person made whatever they wanted. I also love exploring the mind and how it works.
I love to laugh so my pursuit to happiness would be to have lots of friends and laughter in my life. I am a very shy person so making friends is not easy for me, I feel condemned alot if they catch a mistake in something I say or do and I find that I do that also. (this stems from childhood).
stress is linked with fear as being left alone, not being able to work, of course like others here, I have many far too many to list, lol.
I an enjoying these therapeutic exercises!

I hope you guys won't mind me joining you in this wonderful journey?I went over all you have writtenso far and am doing them together here.
my fears-are of being left alone,of having no money to pay the bills,of crowds of people whom I know nothing of!
my desires-i have both material and spiritual-of having enough money that i don't fear not having enough for the kids when i die,a Kindle/Nook to read from,a Vitamix and a dehydrator;spiritual-i wish to do seva with my guru and aim at perfecting my meditation and healing techniques!
stressors-financial-are a biggie;and confrontation with anyone sends my stress level up high! These along with the possibilty of meeting strangers in distant places where I am alone otherwise-are situations where I can actually make myself sick!Am trying to assert myself and have less fear expressing this through prayers.Wish me luck!

Oh, what do I want???

The big things are peace on Earth and peace in my heart.

Abundance for All.

More time and energy for Creativity :)

In order to work towards Peace and Abundance I've taken Ghandi to heart and work to be the change...

The time thing, I'm still working on that...setting priorities and not being lazy. Being a member of Sparkpeople, exercising and eating right HAS manifested as more energy...I'm an energy piggie however and need/want more please.

And I've discovered I really am a material girl.
I desire a winter weight little black dress, a 24" monitor, a WII and all the trimmings, a microphone, more travel; you get the idea.

The big things I may never see on this Earth. Well, mostly my heart is peaceful, but it's got a long ways to go to find unconditional love. I accept this and welcome the challenge to do my part for peace on earth and abundance for all.

The material things? I expect most of them will turn up in my life sooner or later. I really have everything I need and so much more.

emoticon Day 3 ~ Today we are going to look at The Key to Happiness. Again, take a sheet of paper and list all of your desires from the ones you share with those close to you to the ones you harbor inside. Now look at your list. Are the desires spiritual or cultural? How would you feel if certain desires could not be fulfilled? Sit on this mindfully for as long as you can. Release the desires that contaminate your happiness. Come back here and share with us how you feel now that you no longer are carrying these burdens.

I exist as I am, that is enough, If no other in the world be aware I sit content, And if each and all be aware I sit content. ~ Walt Whitman

MICKEYCUSTER love your poem and NJMOMMY2BOYS what a wonderful vision board.
I also find the other creative ideas with 2D and 3D projects (especially the idea of dance) uplifting.

What inspires me? What will help me let go of the past, earthly attachments and lessen my cultural conditioning? What will help me move to a spiritual plane? And how can I share that in a creative way?

It’s a difficult question for me to fully answer now as I am focused on a kitchen remodeling project (just heard marvelous news from the bank). I am improving the space in honor of the house, a place that has given my immediate family great joy, and in anticipation of a Christmas celebration with my extended family and friends. The changes deal with the past as my extended family is smaller since a family lawsuit, earthly attachments as a kitchen is a kitchen, and my cultural conditioning, as my kitchen is the heart of my home.

What does inspire me (albeit maybe not spiritually) is the process. As I restarted my Gratitude journey, I became aware that if the project was meant to be it would happen. I gave thanks for the creativity and slowness of my designer (first engaged her in January) and as a result, the universe has opened a way to fulfill a dream.

I'll finish painting the birdhouse I started a month ago. Thank you for reminding to keep creating.

Last night I looked at the beautiful veggies sitting on the countertop and created the most awesome soup.

I love to scrapbook. I love putting my pictures in a nice place they will be viewed not just a book. I have been wanting a creative outlet that was more arts oriented. I can't sing so I tried banjo but there were no teachers and the video wasn't enough. I have wanted to do the belly dance for a couple years and I am excited to start.

I made a vision board a month or two back that reflect this so I am just going to post this one because I would make it the same way again.

Day one had me in deep thought, my greatest fears all zeroed in on "loosing" self, spouse, job, family. How I can work with these is to realize I only have control of my thoughts and reactions.(could loosing weight also be connected? Hmmmm)
Live in the moment. Big step for me.

Day two, Much more fun! No pun intended.

A silly song
A goofy face
A fast race
Looking up into outer space.
Childrens giggles
Adults that can't juggle,
but keep trying until they make all our belly's jiggle.
A strangers smile when I say hi
Flowers blooming
Raindrop sparkles
Snow flake sighs as they drift down to whisper by my ear.

I am afraid of hieghts and falling. these fears I can overcome by facing them in little bits. In fact my husband and I are going on a hot air balloon ride this month. More difficult is dealing with the fear that I am unlovable, or that my death will go unnoticed. These will take trust in the universe, and a constant repitition on the mantra " I am here, as I am, to complete a job that only I can do.

Wow, there's been such serious sharing here today! I thank all of you for the faith it takes to put your fears out there.

Jenny, today one of my co-workers brought in a poster of her son's girlfriends volleyball team. There was a BIG girl in the middle. You could tell she was big because of the tiny little things around her. She was BEAUTIFUL! I'm not sure how tall she was, 6'4' or so, but she looked so strong and was perfectly proportioned. Today's challenges call for BIG people.

One of my best friends was a BIG person. He passed over a year ago and I still miss him. How I wish I had that energy and presence with me now.

I used to be afraid of a lot of things...I still hate to drive, but mostly I feel guided by Spirit and know that whatever happens, it will be ok. When I was younger I had more fear than I do now. Maybe it's a function of learning to trust and letting go of control?

NIGHTPOET00 ~ If you don't acknowledge all of your fears and anxieties then you can never overcome them. If you can't release them you can never experience an open crown chakra.

Fears are the harder for me as well. I have many fears and as I get older, I keep adding more yet others I am able to release. Most of my fears stem from my over-protective mother and I am trying my hardest to not be that way with my children.

Some fears, I can not conquer completely but when I am mindful to them when the anxiety approaches I can work through them. For example, I have a very big fear of heights. Even going up stairs can be a struggle for me if there are many of them, but 7 years ago I went to beautiful New Hampshire and went to the top of Mount Washington. Granted I sat on the floor of the car, hyperventilating -- but once I got to the top, I have never seen something so beautiful. The following weekend I went back to New Hampshire with some friends and we hiked up a mountain on foot. I sat on the edge to get good pictures and had an enjoyable time with it. Never once did my fear of heights show.

The point is there are many fears that we can work through if we are mindful. Of course many of us fear the worse for those we care about but that is a "what if" fear. Same with financial burdens. Those fears would be eliminated if you live mindfully and in just THIS moment.

How others see us is another one. I know it can leave big emotional scars but why would one persons opinion about you really affect you? I was made fun of growing up for my nose, teeth, boobs (or lack-of), height and for being too skinny. But, after a while I stopped caring what others think because I love myself. If any of you have been to my page and read my intro; it took me a long time to get that self-acceptance. But, once I did the world opened up to me. I am no longer worried about what society expects of me. Neither should any of you. Beauty truly comes from the inside.

I will discuss love when we get to the heart chakra because if the heart chakra isn't open then you may not be able to get past this fear.

My biggest fears that I can not seem to overcome are really related to how I feel "too big." Not just in weight- although that's a part of it but my bone structure and HEIGHT! And I CAN NEVER EVER CHANGE HEIGHT or that even skinnier I was called an amazon or BIG GIRL- and it hurts millions each time it comes by.

With that is the fear that I am "too much" and I know I am- I have been told...too passionate, too powerful, to verbose, to excited, to authentic, too too too BIG! AGAIN THAT WORD! I even been told by my spiritual mother that my energy walks in before I DO! BIG ENERGY JENN! She said- even that killed me inside. And I stopped being honest and real and direct because on top of being REAL AND AUTHENTIC I AM OVERWEIGHT- and that is my biggest fear.

Also a fear is I am unlovable - truly becaus eof all of this. That maybe people are just intimidated by me or overwhelmed by me or just being kind.
I also fear stagnation and little change.
Sorry if too much! LOL I am a therapist so that's me all day! LOL "TOO THERAPIZED!" emoticon

I choose peace instead of this.

Ok, so it seems my fears focus on fear of losing people and myself in relationships. That fear prompts a nagging, clinging response in me and triggers problems that would not have existed if I simply let go with trust in the person, spirit and the process. This is good news; now for the implementation...

This was a great exercise and I’m happy to say I have very few fears. While I am waiting to hear the results of some financial issues, I have meditated on them and given thanks in advance for their fulfillment. Since I’ve changed to clip in bike pedals, I still fear tight corners (two spills), but will build confidence with practice over time. The one fear I am not sure how to resolve is fear of heights. I feel as if I lose my balance and am missing some opportunities to take in marvelous views. Any suggestions for conquering this fear would be appreciated!

This will be great -- thank you!

As to the Day 1 task . . . this seems daunting. How can I possibly list all of my fears? There seem to be so many, and a bunch of insecurity I couldn't put a name to. :/

Fear is a big one for me. I at some points in life have had to go on medication for anxiety attacks. It all goes back to some childhood events of not being secure with my mom I am sure. I have come to some actions I can take as I have been meditating. I even had something come up and smack me in the head while meditating that I had no idea was bothering me. At this point my biggest fear is messing up my son to be a ball of nerves like me. He already has autism and doesn't need to experience life with that and fear. I have come to the realization that meditation will not fix my issues alone. I am getting signed up for counseling before the holidays.

I also decided to do something I have been afraid to do for two years. I signed up for bellydance class starting in a week. :)

Everything I've looked at today has asked me to explore fear and fearfulness.

I looked at this and my heart skipped to a place of anger, fear and helplessness:

"Senate Bill S510 makes it ILLEGAL to grow, share, trade or sell homegrown food... the legislation has a loooong history and the U.S. House of Representatives passed a version of it already. This amounts to total TAKEOVER of the U.S. food supply, policed & enforced by the Dept. of Homeland Security."

My most abiding fear is the divisiveness between people in these times.

I know the only way to overcome fear of events out of control is to work on my connection to Spirit. I am enjoying this exploration...the things I fear I'd rather ignore.

emoticon Day 1 ~ Take a sheet of paper and list all your fears. Everything from the smallest insecurity to the biggest struggle. When you are finished listing them go back to the first item and write why you have this fear and how you can overcome it. Continue this throughout the list. How many can you overcome with simple inspiration, devotion or spontaneity? Would you be able to meditate on these fears to release them? Please share which fears you can not overcome so maybe you can find inspiration from another person.

I posted the information about the Crown Chakra in another thread labeled Our Universal Identity (The Crown Chakra) so it doesn't get lost in conversation in case others want to join in at a later date.

Please review this information, www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=4839x20148xR>36570073
before joining in the challenge. It is very informative.

Every day I will post a new practice to help open the chakra in this thread. I ask that everyone please respond in this thread and not on the information thread. Please use that as a guide.

I guess we will begin tomorrow but I will post up the practice tonight for the early risers.

All of this weeks practices can be found on my blog along with the information on the crown. If you get lost in the conversation, you can bookmark my blog for the next days practice. It can be found in any of my signatures. Here is a direct link to the post, mindfulness-moments.blogspot.

.

I will also do the same with the upcoming weeks to make everything more accessible and to promote our group.

I hope everyone enjoys their evening.

The challenge is to open our chakras. I will be posting meditations, yoga poses and practices to help us achieve open chakras.

I will post about the Crown Chakra later today, when my little one is down for a nap.

We are about to embark on a seven week journey of spiritual exploration of our energy centers; and how they affect us and how we can clear them so we can enhance our lives. I am honored that I was asked to lead this challenge.

To begin, I would like to explain a bit about the Chakras. Chakra is the sanskrit word meaning "wheel" or "vortex." There are seven major chakras in the body that run along the spine and correlate with certain body parts, emotions and senses.

Each chakra is associated with particular functions within the body and with specific life issues and the way we handle them, both inside ourselves and in our interactions with the world. As centers of force, chakras can be thought of as sites where we receive, absorb, and distribute life energies. Through external situations and internal habits, such as long-held physical tension and limiting self-concepts, a chakra can become either deficient or excessive—and therefore imbalanced.

1. Root Chakra, located at the base of the spine, is the center of discipline, responsibility, order, and one's comfort in the physical body and on earth.

2. Sacral Chakra, situated at the mid-point between a woman's ovaries and at a comparable location in men, deals with the balance between the receptive and directive forces and with relationships, sexuality, creativity, and one's identity in the world.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra, located in the naval area, where you experience butterflies when you're nervous, is the center of feeling, emotion, harmony, and intuition.

4. Heart Chakra, in the middle of the chest, is the center of love, joy, generosity, courage and forgiveness.

5. Throat Chakra, located (obviously) at the throat, is the center of power, confidence, expression, growth and truth.

6. Third Eye Chakra, in the middle of the forehead, is the center of focus and concentration, wisdom, clarity, clairvoyance and discernment.

7. Crown Chakra, located at the top of the head, is the center of trust, devotion, inspiration, spontaneity, and happiness, and is an access to spiritual dimensions.

There are many spiritual practices to help open up and balance the chakras and together we will explore the many options and benefits of this system.

Each week I will post about one of the chakra's. In Ellen Tadd's new book, "The Wisdom of the Chakras," she takes an unusual (to the Chakra method) approach and starts from the Crown or 7th Chakra. Her reasoning "Starting at the base (root), we must do all the work ourselves. When the crown is open and functioning well, we connect to spirit, and we become aware that we are never alone in the process of growth and transformation." Considering this is my favorite book on the Chakra's and it contains good practices and experiences with the system, I am going to follow Tadd and work this challenge backwards.

Yoga is more than a way to be more flexible. Its therapeutic effects reach beyond physical fitness and mental relaxation. Yoga is, at its core, a spiritual discipline. Using yoga to explore the chakra's we will learn how they correspond with one another.

I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you.
