I usually tend to eat about 5 smaller meals a day, just because otherwise I get super hungry between meals. I don't always stick to that, though---- if I know I'm going out to eat with people or something, I'll just have a snack before that to tide me over since I know I'm going to eat more whether I plan to or not! And some days, I do indulge---- today, I'm planning on heading to the Baja Fresh near my work and getting a burrito; but it fits into my calorie count since I plan around it! (Side note: Baja Fresh, if you order reasonable fillings, is much, much healthier than most burrito places in my experience.)

Diet Coke is my favorite drink, I won't even lie. My strategy is to keep it out of my house and keep a water bottle on me at all times. If I need caffeine, I have coffee (thank goodness for a coffee maker at home and the office!). I do badly with completely giving up things as I'll end up binging on them in rebellion, so I'll allow myself a Diet Coke every couple weeks, because moderation is key. As for the ice cream, can't help you much--- I haven't had it in years because of my lactose intolerance. :(

I'm finally to the point where I drink diet soda like a normie -- just on occasion, small amounts, and it doesn't trigger anything.

When it comes to alcohol & drugs, I'll never be anything like a normie -- I don't even want to try. I'm done with those "experiments."

Speaking of sugar. Just made the most amazing recipe. Brought them to work today and no one suspected and everyone loved them. Are you ready??

1 box of regular brownie mix (for 8x8 size pan)
1 can of black beans with liquid
1/4 cup of water

Puree beans and liquid with water. Add to box mix and bake according to instructions.

Each one is 2 points (pan cut into 20 pieces), low calorie, no fat and high fiber and protein.

I found them better cold today than hot last night.
Try them (unless you aren't eating any sugar).

I am with you on the sugar side. I have really cut down, but let's see...I don't drink anymore, I don't smoke anymore...I am not giving up all the vices that are bad for me. And I heard a great thing last night at a 15year medallion. AA birthday cake has no calories. Good thing because I had 2 pieces!

Well,

I've surrendered again to journaling and working harder at weight watching. My husband has become quite overweight and in the last year his MD has asked him to lose quite a few times. This time, he adds GERD to the symptoms and is now motivated to do this. I'm his buddy. Helps me a lot!! One week, so far so good. Not too painful this time either.

I'm still ready to start tackling the sugar thing but not really ready to give it all up. A little at a time perhaps :).

I eat several snacks too small to call them mini-meals throughout the day, but eat a normal dinner. I don't get hungry that way, and if I get hungry it's not a good thing. I have been into the ice cream this summer, too. Actually, frozen yoghurt in yummy ice cream flavours, so it's not that bad for you. I figure it this way. I don't drink. I don't smoke anymore. If I want to enjoy a bit of extra food once and a while, I try to just enjoy it. I just make sure I pay attention to my overall intake.

I find that I can't eat between meals without oozing over into grazing. I need the formal setting of a sit down breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't eat between meals (except coffee!) and I rarely eat desserts. My hubby is diabetic and has to eat more often. I think of it as breakfast, the rest of breakfast, lunch, the rest of lunch, and dinner, and the rest of dinner. Not "snacking".

I loathe the word "snack". Say it 10 times fast. It has a hard, harsh sound. To me it has a negative connotation, my upbringing, I guess. We were not supposed to eat between meals, but I started having an "after school snack" when I was in junior high, and ended up overindulging and getting fat. Which led to a nightmarish high school experience as the Fat Girl. Which led to my drinking and not eating at all, until I lost the feeling in my legs. The food and the alcohol abuse left me very ill by the time I got sober at 27.

As for Diet Coke, I drink it all the time and it has never led me back into sweets. Just the opposite. I remember truly awful diet soft drinks (Patio Diet Cola and Tab) and I am grateful for modern diet sodas.

I find that when I do lots of small meals, not even really meals, just lots of snacks, that I do a LOT better, eat less, feel better, the works. HOWEVER, yes, I do miss big meals (my husband is a three squars a day guy, no snacks, not big on sweets, not overweight) SO I often do still eat the big meal. Usually if I eat a good balance of protein, fat, fiber, it works out that i'm not that hungry. I suppose it boils down to whenever I'm not eating right, I end up eating too much.

As for diet soda... I was lucky enough to get off of it easily and many years ago. It is so bad for you, SO BAD FOR YOU on all fronts. I had the same experience that when I ate/drank soda (even sparkling water) I felt hungrier and craved sweets.

I do 3 meals w/2 snacks. I try to eat small at breakfast, with my larger meal at lunch and a small dinner. I have a snack between breakfast and lunch and one after dinner. I try to eat nothing after 6 or 7 p.m. at the latest.

As far as diet coke...good grief, I've quit them several times, once for two years and all it took was a BC Powder (caffiene in them) to get me back on them. I get brutal headaches each time I detox yet here I am hooked again.

Talk about addictive personalities...I fill the bill!!!

The ice cream has not been much of a problem but sugar is and has always been. I try very hard not to indulge in anything w/sugar, but sometimes... well you know. emoticon

Does anyone do 5-6 mini meals each day to control calorie intake and keep hunger at bay? I'm wondering if you miss a big meal or two - or how you factor that in every once in awhile?

I'm still stuggling with ice cream and diet cokes. I gave up the diet cokes for almost 4 months and with it....I definitely ate less sugar/ice cream too. This summer, I drifted back into diet cokes and jumped headfirst into the ice cream tub. I'm working on that now and am wondering if I should try the mini-meals. Share your experience if you have any.
