I have not been to one yet, and am looking forward to going to the next one. I hear they are awesome.

Off to that Blackstone retreat today. Oldest AA retreat in the country. It is invitation only but not to be exclusive (they can only accommodate 400 in the facility). Once on the list...if you miss more than 2 blackstones you are off. There are always new people there. The rotating board of directors gets to invite the newbies and blackstone newcomers each year. Then they probably send out hundred more invties and the first ones to respond each year get to go. It is old fashioned AA and really is a surrender for this AA. There have been quite a few other retreats around the country that follow a similar model - I know of one in Texas and NC. Bet there is one in your area is you ask around. AA and AlAnon all weekend.....and some long walks and conversations. The meetings are great but the 1:1s that turn up are where the magic is in AA I think. Of course that can happen anywhere - had one in my car this week

love to all,

Mary: I checked the Blackstone website but didn't see anything about a retreat, just their detox and rehab services. Can you tell me more?

I go to an AA retreat a couple times each year. Going to Blackstone next month (in Va) - apparently it is the oldest AA retreat in the country (at least the organizers of Blackstone claim that fame). It will be over the 100th one they've held (they do this every Spring and Fall). Attendees tend to come largely from PA, VA, NC, TX, and Fla. There are a ton of people there with over 30 years sobriety and always a handful over 50! They always invite a few newcomers too thank God! Mary L.

There are retreats going on in your neck of the woods too I'm sure.
