My grandson was here today and so I tried to do a bit of organizing in my sewing room. He is so good that he watches TV and plays quietly while I'm working. We did go outside and play cars for an hour. Carol

I was going through a cabinet in my sewing room and found the ironing board cover I had given to my mom the Christmas before she passed away 5 years ago. I had been thinking I needed a new cover, so it was nice to find this especially this week.

I so agree, Carol. I've had the grands since Monday and I really need some strip therapy. Instead, think I will do a binding. Then maybe some pillowcases, they are already cut out.

Yesterday I helped a friend to continue her cleaning out and organization of her sewing room. So desperately need her help with mine. If I would just retire from my decorating business, I would have more room. OH, well. Not in the cards for another year. Carol

Today I had a decorating appmt with a client and I showed her a fabric that was discontinued. Bad on me. So when I got home, I took the book which was from 2008 all apart and saved all the cotton swatches. They are 5" wide and I'm going to cut them all into charm squares. They are blue and white fabrics mostly so maybe I'll put it on my ETSY shop when I get to posting. CArol

Last week for National Quilting day, I really wanted to quilt. But my sewing mess got the better of me. I decided it was time to organize!! So I sorted all of the fabric that I had taken out for my last several projects into colors and got it put away. I try to put my fabric in drawers and file it like paper. That way I can just pull the drawer open and see what I have without having to dig. I roll the larger pieces and stand them on end. This system works well for me. Now I just have a few more things to organize and my sewing nook will be ready for a new project!! Woohoo!

With God all things are possible

ah.... sort of???? I cleaned up a bit of scraps with my confetti quilt, and I have all the drawers cleaned out and neat, so I guess I am sort of done. Okay...I do have one tub that is hopeless.... every time I go into it I just make it messy again. I am the hopeless one, NOT the tub!

I have been making pillow cases for terminally ill children. It uses up that focus fabric that I purchased years ago because it was cute but not realistic for the types of quilts I make now.

Last night at guild I took 2 large boxes of fabric to donate and a roll of 8 yards. Some one else brought stacks of fabric and you should have seen the ladies going through it. Like vultures but I sure didn't want to haul it home again, oh, wait, I did bring home a big of it. Mostly charms with polka dots. Someone also brought in 5 boxes of old magazines. I mean old ones. Why do people keep 20 year old magazines? What I don't like about the old ones is that the patterns always used templates and I prefer the new, easier piecing methods. I did bring home a box of magazines and will keep what I like and give the rest back. The lady did not want them thrown out so I'll have to find another home for them. Carol

I have a 1 year old that loves to clear off my shelves I figure she is not hurting anything and it keeps her busy while i sew so I let her have a good time making a mess. then I have to go back and refold everything and put it back. I did have to rearrange the craft room so I was able to better organize what I have . everytime I do this it gets me geared up to sew I get so many ideas from the material.

Thanks Jo, I'll think about it. My dog doesn't get into anything, but the cat is another matter. I decided it was too cold one evening and brought her in the sewing room for the first time. She hadn't been there 5 minutes and had thread with a needle hanging out of her mouth. Won't do that again.

I delivered 2 pillowcases Wed and have 3 more to make. The stash is getting smaller, bit by bit.

Hubbies, you gotta love them. Mine is designing a sewing table for me so I won't have to use the collection of folding tables I have now. Then I can rearrange my sewing room, discard the old encyclopedias, and get the rest of the fabric off the floor.

1 1/2 years ago I had knee surgery...while I was in the hospital my husband thought he was doing me a favor and took all my sewing "stuff" out of the spare bedroom. Since I would be using that bedroom for a week or so post surgery, he thought I would prefer a more "tidy" room. He literally tossed everything into cupboards in the spare garage. I was in shock when I realized what he had done. For months I quilted on the diningroom table, finding just the necessary items I needed. Finally, I took several days and reorganized the spare bedroom into a quilting room, organizing my "tools", my fabric. Actually, he did me a favor in the long run because it made me go through everything...tossing or keeping and finding a better way to display...

Make sure the glass is always half full!

LOL, as another former librarian, I know what you mean about people donating back our discarded books! But really, if no one is using them, why let them eat up the space...and there we go--I need to get rid of some of my fabric! Fortunately, our guild is having a fabric sale next month, so I will probably give them some my "what was I thinking" fabric.

WG, I agree, you got the best end of the deal there. Receiving blankest a re a great use for flannel. How nice of your DD and her friends to help out.

Susie, you are right. I know what is more important. My parents got them for the girls back in the 90s. Perhaps I should just return the whole set to them.

I made a dozen receiving blankets from flannel I have in my stash. My daughter and her friends crocheted borders around them. I have another 24 pieces to make blankets. That will make a dent in the flannel stash. Still have cotton that I am not ready to deal with.

Bev, at a former school librarian, we always had difficulty ridding ourselves of old sets of encyclopedias. While our elementary school kept the newest of the old sets for student check outs. The set in our library is several years old, but justifying buying a new set with our limited funds was hard. With so many electronic sources available, we chose not to update them. Recycling them is a good option if no one wants them. We joked about discarding books saying that the really old ones should be thrown away with sloppy joes on top so no one dug them out of the trash and returned them to us!

After all, what's more important for those selves? Quilting stuff - of course!!!!!!!!!!!

I could have 4 more shelves if I could find something to do with a set of encyclopedias. The library and schools don't want them. I guess I could have a bonfire in the back yard. The machines will have to stay where they are till DH gets my new table finished.

WOOT! I found it (and some more solids I forgot about). I also got signature blocks ready for a friend's daughter's wedding reception. That one won't have to be finished till summer, so all is well. Now I have to start on the one for our tandem rally April 4th. Nothing like waiting till the last minute. At least it will just be strip pieced so not too much work.

An a brighter note, I don't have time to eat, and I did get in a walk and 30 minutes on the bike.

Bev -- I've been in that situation too. I guess that goes since I have material in 5 rooms in the house. Someday, I will be more organized.

Ok, people, this is sad. Last year I bought a bolt of fabric to use for backing and last night I couldn't find it. Today calls for a massive re-organization and search.

This was done the first week of January for me. My dd and her DH came and we worked on the basement, painting put up a couple beds for company, making a play area for the granddaughters and reorganizing my sewing area. It is wonderful!! emoticon

I did 210 minutes of downstairs heavy cleaning, pluse walked a mile. That's enough for today. However, tomorrow is upstairs cleaning, and being that is where my quilt room is, I will probably begin tackling it.

I need this and have been working on it. I thought I had a stash until I saw the bins of fabric accumulated by my guild, most of which are old colors. I sewed a quilt yesterday for charity that had 2003 printed on one selvage. That's ten years old fabric lying around. I think we might have a giveaway day for quilters to come and help themselves to fabric for charity. Carol

My sewiing room is currently in a state of chaos, so this is a challenge that I definitely need to take, but I am not sure that I will be able to get very far what with all the other deadlines that I have going on right now.

Am clearing out some flannels and have sorted some other things. Still need to get back into the sewing room (the one I have adopted) but need the carpet relaid. A good project for this time of year.

emoticon No one seems to want my stuff. Am in the process of sorting but no one helps me take stuff. I even turned down a chance to get fabric and told them that I am plumb full and not a place to put a wrinkle in. lool

Aw, c'mon. I am in the middle of a very messy project. How's that for an excuse?

Ok, it's time to dust off those quilting patterns, organize fabrics, scraps, and tools, and toss or donate what you won't use.

Are you in? You have the month of March to complete this.

If you have recently done this, toot your horn here and brag!
