I did STS with a 3 lbs, 12 lbs, 15 lb bodybar. i later added my ankle weights to the Bodybar and 12 lbs at end of mesocycle 2 and all of Mesocycle 3. Getting heavier weights next week to start STS again.

I was using 12 BUT I asked my husband to get me 20....LOVE IT!!! And he got me 25 lbs...WhooHoo!

Adjustable wrist weights are a great way to add increases without a lot of extra money invested.

This thread has helped a lot! I've been sooooo excited to start my Cathe workouts, but have only 2 - 12lb dumbells and a step. I did Gym Style...Biceps and only my triceps are sore. ?? Now I'm wondering about the DOMS. I have limited funds right now so a barbell is next on my list of purchases. Keeping an eye out for affordable weights and how much I should buy is how I'm spending most of my internet time!

I find that some weeks of lifting heavy as possible works well and other weeks I lift a little lighter and it still works. I do think it helps to change it up. I have noticed differences when using free weights versus resistance bands and so on. I just change it up now every few weeks and I am liking how things are shaping up - it's a slow process and the changes are subtle, but they are happening. I think realistically one more year of shaping with weights and I should be where I want to be - I hope...

I am not using STS, but working with a Trainer who is training my body for Body Building. I agree about being able to lift a lot more than you expect and how those "rests" really help to boost your workout! I was lifting as little as 2-35 lbs dumbbells and as much as 140 lbs for triceps and back. That is on Day 1 of Body Building...I can't wait to see what I am lifting come 8 weeks from now!

STS allow for sufficient rest between sets - which is strengthening the muscles rather than breaking down bundles. My 1RM are definitely lighter - I adjust as soon as I realize I need to heavy up....then I change my card for the next time I do this...

My muscles are growing now like they never have before with other Cathe's or BFL.

Now that I've started the STS system, I realize that I can lift much heavier weights than I initially thought, and that I was not working my muscles to failure.

Thus, I think I will err to the side of heavy when doing other Cathe workouts, and adjust accordingly.

The circuits are always lighter because of the speed of the exercises and the short or no rest in between. In the strength workouts, she takes more rest and lifts more weight. She also lifts more in the latest dvds. Going back to Maximum Intensity Strength, she did that one with a 35# barbell I think and Step, Jump and Pump too. (I remember having to work up to that!)

I did the muscle max today and am glad i used the lighter weights (8-15 dumbbells; 20-30 lbs barbell).

The way she works each muscle group is awesome...if I used the heavier weights, I would have been in some serious trouble!

I was really surprised at how sore I've been using the lighter weights. And my muscles are taking on more definition. Seems to be helping me with my yard work as well....not nearly as sore and tender as last year when spring and yard work hit. :o)

For the next 4 weeks I'm doing circuit workouts. The past 3 months I've done heavy weight training like Gym Style, so my body is not use to lighter weights.

It is better to have good form at a lighter weight than to lift a weight heavier and get injured.

This past week I've been doing the 2006 Circuit Series (I've never seen a title for it....so I call it the 2006 Circuit Series)...anyway it uses a pair of 5# and 15# dumbbells. Talk about pain. My muscles have not been this sore in quite a while.

Loving it....simply loving it.

Next week I am going to use lighter weights, ones I know I can lift properly so that I can get a handle on the new exercises and the flow of the workouts.

I think lower weights are good at times...next week will be a plus!

I didn't preview all of her workouts, but perhaps it was the Curcuit DVDs that she used lighter weights.

I feel better about it now, he weight DVDs sound like something I can really grow with!

Cathe lifts way more than 8-15 pounds in most of her workouts. In 4-d split she is using a 62# bar for double lat rows. I use dumbbells and am generally about 10# lighter than her weight. I’m working upward toward her weights, but not there yet.

Yes - I use heavier but in Muscle max dvd of hers - she lifts heavier.

For example while doing 21's - she uses 10's
Aprox with in a few pounds....
Back - 35
Biceps curls - 35
Dumbbell pullovers - 30
One arm dumbbell rows for back - 20 or 25

And so on...in Drill Max she uses lighter weights but in her weight lifting dvds - well at least in Muscle max - it is heavier.

I use heavy weights as well just because I have seen the drop in inches it has given me but I alternate days for example on heavy days I do anywhere from 8-12 reps and and on lighter days I avg 15+ reps each rotation.

Watching the previews of Cathe's DVDs, she uses between 8-15 lbs dumbbells...Does anyone lift heavier weights than that while working out with her?

I can see myself getting used to those weights after several weeks, as I do that now. Just wondering what everyone else does and if any adjustments are made with regards to weights.

When I do a new Cathe workout I find it best to start with a much lighter weight than I think I can manage.....those DOMS can be murder.
