I had an Omron and liked it too. At the moment I am using a pedometer from LL Bean which is very good and more compact than the Omron.

All steps count, it's a measure of being active as opposed to "exercise". Exercise alone is not enough, you need to be moving throughout the day. The only time I take my pedometer off (other than bedtime) is when I go cycling. That really cranks the steps up out of this world.

Did they give you set up insructions to measure your step length.
I noticed that Spark sells the OMRON exactly like mine for $19.99 but the shipping is too high.
Strangely enough I too have a left leg pain and I am going to the Drs tomorrow.
Today I walked 6 miles on the rail trail they have Granite quarter mile marker posts . I came home and worked in the yard mostlty raking and digging and so far 16938 steps.
My steps are 20 minute miles and 1 mile was 2420 steps.
I love having a pedometer no matter what kind you get seeing the numbers every day is great,
I hope you have a great time with it. I also hope you get a good report at the Dr office. Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon

I got a sportlite ped and it gives miles, steps, and calories burned. My goal is 15,000 to 16,000 steps a day. Right now I am having terrible pain in my left leg. Will see the doctor on friday.

I bought it in a CVS Pharmacy.
We use OMRON blood pressure machines and we feel they are well made.

Several other friends bought more elaborate OMRON pedometers and at least 2 do not know how to use them. I had more expensive ones with stop watch and calories burned but I just want the steps I can do the rest with my Fitness tracker.

I paid $14.99 when it was on sale It is usually $19.99 It clips to your belt but since my last expensive one came off I make sure I tie it to a belt lood with a little chain . It used to be a key chain but it performs well for me.
I love to beat the day before and this way you can check your weeks best with the memeory. I did ask if I could return it if I did not like it they said no problem
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon

I like mine to just count steps. I have tried the others and Some days i walk with a long stride with my group others short steps. You can not rely on consistency.
I have an OMRON stepper, it counts steps. It saves them for 7 days and it always goes to ZERO at midnight. I love those features. I used to foget to reset to zero. Some days I did not post steps but i can go back for 6 days to add to the tracker. It has a clock not a stop watch. It is well made and a reasonable price.

We all have access to the mapping of where you walk run or bike right here on spark. I have my maps in there for the rail trail. my neighbourhood and our friends neighbourhood.
That makes it easier. Calories burned I leave up to my tracker.
You might say I track all of my steps, miles and calories using the the Spark FITNESS tracker, all in one place woo hoo way to go. Pat in Maine. emoticon

Out of curiosity, what brand of pedometer do you use? Does it just count steps or does it convert to miles? Does it show "Calories burned?

Just wondering what each of you uses and how you like it?

The 10 to 12k steps daily is based on walking 5 miles per day. The NIH determined that this amount should help maintain weight and overall general health. October is National walking month. Just a bit of trivia to start the day........

Information on how to begin a 10 -12k program can be found at the link below

You've gotten good responses. I personally wear a pedometer. I put it on @ the beginning of the day and take it off @ the end of the day. I find that's just the easiest way to keep track of steps/miles.

I have a peditometer and I wear it , I just usually take it off when I am in the house, shopping or doing yard work and don't count those steps. I wasn't sure if I should count them. Mine does do steps, calories used, and miles. Thanks! I will start countinjg all my steps now!

Agreed. When you are counting the 10 to 12 k steps per day every step you take counts. Pedometers can be purchased inexpensively and at times they are given away in "goodie bags". I tried to count the 12k steps without a pedometer and gave up almost immediately.

Cardio is cardio. Heart pumping - sweat inducing. All of those steps count too. Both are good for your health. Good luck. Let us know how you are doing. Carol

From what I read any steps you take that will get that heart rate up to your number, If I am planning a day out, I have my pedometer on .Set it to count all steps and for any type of activity. For some reason, there is a difference from the right and left hip, which my orthopedic explained was because of a reconstructed right ankle, which at times I favor that side in stride. Either way All steps are counted. With cardiac I set it only to recognize a certain stride and use that strictly for cardiac.

A pedometer is a great device it counts everything and that includes everything. Some convert it to miles Mine does not.

Steps are steps.
Cardio is separate because cardio is when it gets you heart rate up enough to count as cardio.

If you want to do that right you have to put your pedometer to zero and be sure you map out your walk. I hope this helps . Steps are steps though Enjoy the holiday weekend Pat in Maine.
