BEFORE BED I USUALLY HAVE A PEICE OF CHEESE OF AN EXTEND BAR. EXTEND BARS ARE A BAR THAT WAS DESIGNED BY AN ENDOCRINOLOGIST TO KEEP BS AT A NORMAL RANGE. THEY REALLY WORK. YPU CAN FIND THEM ON WWW.EXTEND BAR.COM.
Hilda, Welcome. I like all the ideas; I normally eat wheat cheese crackers if I am hungry before bed. I try to carry them in my purse also just in case during the day; yet I always seem to smash them. lol
thanks for all the good info..My readings are never below the 5/90 yet. but i thought we had to eat the snack before bedtime to prevent the dump in the night..My readings are always around7 or 8 /126-144 in the mornings..I have only been diagnosed since July and started on the 500mg metformin twice a day at that time. I have dropped 32 pounds as well..hilda
Hilda, Bob's right, you don't HAVE to eat at bedtime... it's kind of up to you and your body. What I do is test at bedtime, and if its below a certain reading, I'll have a snack. If not, I don't.
The snacks the others have mentioned are all good. I like cottage cheese, it has a few carbs in it as well as protein. Sometimes I'll add a bread stick or sometimes I'll just have half a sandwich--any combination of protein and carbs, where the carbs are 15g or less. I've had a half-cup of chicken soup, even, when I wanted something warm.
Use your imagination, just keep the carb count 15g or so, and you'll do fine.
Keep experimenting, and let us know what you find that works for you... 'cause we like trying new things too! Kathy

Hilda, I drink a cup of green tea or SSF coca, if that doesnt do the trick, I eat a small apple or something.. I can eat all the nuts without a problem..You said, do I have to eat at night.. depends on how you feel, many evenings I dont eat a snack and do just fine.. All ideas below are great too.. I just dont keep crackers or anything on hand.. too tempting.. Barb

Does any one have any suggestions about night time snacks..I tried the almonds and that caused major stomach cramps. My morning readings are still in the 140-160/7.8-8.9 Do I have to eat something in the evening? any suggestions here would help..thanks Hilda
