I'm greatful for my growing ability to let go of things I don't need to hold onto anymore, including negative people, unneccessary clutter, and unhelpful thoughts and feelings.

Just because you have been through the rain of life doesn't mean I have to walk around in wet clothes forever; there is a warm towel, a big hug, and a mug of low fat cocoa waiting for you somewhere!

today I am grateful for:

My husband... He's my hero, and it's his birthday. I don't treat him as well as he deserves...

The solid walls around me and humidifier and furnace, which keep me warm in this nasty Wisconsin cold

God's grace...

my job, and my husband's... we may wish things were different, but the truth is that we're blessed to be employed in this area, at this time...

If anyone wants to continue to post a gratitude here, they can. We're just not going to make it a daily "have to" kind of thing.

Changes are best made when we are aware of the need, recognize the process necessary, and focus on one-step-at-a-time.

Since we haven't had anyone post on this thread for a few days, I'm going to discontinue it. If you like it and want to continue posting daily gratitudes, you can do so on this link for the month of November. You can always find the current gratitude thread on "ATransformation" sparkpage.

I have similar issues. Only it is an Aunt as my mom has passed on. But her sister wants me and my sister to be just like she and my mom were. Except it just isn't going to happen. My sis and I talk and get along and see each other, but we are never going to call each other 3 times a week like my Aunt and my mom did. LOL. But...

Hope you find a way to work through it. Be sure to do what is best for you. I think I have probably overeaten more concerning family stuff or men (lol) than anything else. So, it is important to your health that you take care of yourself.

Vi,

there was a lot of positive stuff...they had a "best of Max" table where everyone brought old photos and memorabillia...Vietnam vet....he liked to sail...pics of him as a kid and in high school..pics with the grandkids...mom had a canvas lifesize pic of him made where she took a picture under a covered bridge sign that said 9'. Him standing underneath the sign. Hard to describe but it was neat and sooo HIM. I told mom that I thought he would have liked it. Totally his sense of humor. A lot of the older pics I had never seen. Some people got up and told stories. That part was neat.

The family "drama" surrounds current issues around my sister of which my mother thinks I should be involved in and I want no part of. So that's hard...I felt some distance from my mom (which broke my heart) because of that. It's not fair but it's life. At the same time I know my mom was dealing with a lot so gotta cut her some slack there. It's hard when emotions are high, I suppose but for the most part it was positive and I think "Max" would have liked it and that's all that matters to me.

(((HUGS, LANA)))) Sometimes, it is hard to deal with some family members but that is pretty much the same with all families. Of that I am sure. But I have always said, we attend funerals to honor and show respect for the deceased but the true function of funerals is for the family to share the grief and to help one another which does strengthen the family. I have often told those who didn't want to attend a funeral that maybe they should to help loved ones get through the loss even if for no other reason.

It can be an intense emotional time. But just take comfort in the family members who can be supportive and let the others deal however they choose. That's all we can do.

WOW! Those are powerful gratitudes, Vi! You go girl! It's hard to be grateful and see that side when we're angry. Really hard!!!

There were family drama type stuff that I dealt with this weekend but you are right...for the most part it was positive and did reinforce the family is strong and supportive. Writing the gratitudes tonight helped me to not dwell on the negative. All families have their idiosyncrasies, I suppose...

I told my husband at one point that I felt more emotional coming home due to the drama with the living then I did with the sadness of the one who passed away. But maybe that's suppose to be to draw things out and bring us closer.

Seeing family and visiting is one of the good sides of funerals. It helps to reinforce that the family is strong and supportive.

Today I am grateful for many many things. However, I am also angry at my ex and it is making it difficult to even think of anything else.

I am grateful for my anger because it says I have self-respect and I refuse to be someone's doormat.

I am grateful for my anger because it tells me that my feelings are important too.

I am grateful for my anger because it gives me the courage to stand on my own in the face of adversity.

I am grateful for my anger because it gives me strength to take care of myself.

Sunday, November 2nd... I am grateful for...

1. ...the nice funeral service and for all those that pitched in to help organize it which helped take the pressure and stress off of my mother.

2. ...safe travel.

3. ...family love and support.

4. ...getting to spend so much time this weekend with my dear grandmother who is in her 80's. She is a beacon of light. I love her so.

It’s not always easy to remember gratitude on a daily basis, so lets devote a whole month to conscious gratitude.

Start November with thanksgiving and gratitude.

Today I am grateful for warm days in fall,
For a really nice clean living room,
For the "Judgement House" at a church that I am going to tonight,
and for being able to trust in God even though our economy and politics may be in an upset.

Today I am grateful...

...that my daughter's toe wasn't hurt too badly and that the body is such a fast healing machine.

...that the line at the Voter's registration poll place was only 1 1/2 hours. ...some are waiting up to 3 hrs! I am thankful that we live in a country where we have a voice.

...for good friends who care enough to check on me and see how I'm doing.

...central heating and air...both in my house and my car...it's starting to get really cold out!

Today, I am grateful for so many wonderful flavors of food. I have had banana, cantaloupe, and grape jelly. It is amazing the vast differences and the numerous choices we have.

I am grateful for my health and fitness - that I am able to do the exercises and to get around and do things.

I am grateful for my peace of mind, even when job hunting, to know that no matter what happens, I will be fine.

I am grateful for good friends and family who love us just as we are, flaws and all.

Today I am grateful that we bought our mattress from our neighbor's store ~ 1 year ago, for today he is replacing it for us at a 100% exchange.

That I have the day off

That I lost 1/2 pound last week.

That I have more friends than I can count!

When we think things have to be perfect for us to be grateful, we miss the small, daily possibilities for gratitude.

Gratitude refreshes our spirit.

Changes are best made when we are aware of the need, recognize the process necessary, and focus on one-step-at-a-time.

While listening to a man sing in church this morning it reminded me, that today I am grateful for all the people who have helped to get me to where I am today.

The preachers, the evangelists, the Sunday school teachers, the singers and piano players; for all those who took part in keeping our churches functioning and growing. For those who cook and for those who clean. For those who visit and for those who are always there with a smile and handshake or a hug.

But not just church. But school. And my jobs. And everywhere.

Without the millions of people who have been involved in making my life what it is today. When you think about it, the list is amazingly long!

Thank you to all of them.

And Thank you to all of you, my Spark family!!! I am grateful for you.

Today I am grateful...

1. for getting to spend time with a friend who was in town this weekend.

2. for hot jacuzzi bathtubs and candles.

3. that I'm fit and healthy enough to be able to have the mobility and lifestyle that I want. Seeing others that don't have such mobility makes me more thankful and makes me realize how I should never take that for granted.

4. my dh's willingness this weekend to work with me on the garage and setting up the office furniture. It feels really good to get that done.

Lana, well hello to a fellow flybaby then. LOL.

Today, I am most grateful for releasing a LOT of clutter. I donated 7 boxes of books, 1 box of audio cassettes (large box), a small bag of clothes and a small bag of shoes.

I trashed another large bag of audio tapes and a few books that were not worth donating. Some of the tapes I threw away came from a Mary Kay convention I attended back in 1981 and I haven't used an audio casette in a couple of years. So, it was really really good to get rid of them.

I too am grateful for such a beautiful fall day, and all those wonderful services our communities provide that we often take for granted.

WooHoo and that the scale was nice to me this morning and showed down to 186. I know it is not a solid loss yet, but it is on its way down. WooHoo!!

Busy, busy Saturday, and I am thankful
* For the energy I have today, after yesterday, a day of mostly rest!
* For "witches fingers" (long, really skinny eggplants) and "creatures to bake" (fingerling potatoes in really weird shapes) for the birth-oween party tomorrow night. Add baked purple cauliflower brain, and veggies are easily taken care of!
* For the incredible beauty of the day...perfect autumn weather, and gorgeous colors
* For electricity, running water, sewer systems, and all the other luxuries we take for granted...and that we can afford to pay for them.
* That I am still working with the economic crisis upon us, while I watch my 401K lose $$ as fast as I put into it.
* That I as I fill out my absentee ballot, I will make the choices which will be the best ones for our country.

Vi,

I am real familiar with flylady. I kind of programmed our daily challenges after what she does. I've done flylady for years but after awhile got too many emails and it seemed it complicated my life more then simplified it so that's why I started my own version. lol

I LOVE the Saving dinner program. I have subscribed to different menus for about 7 years now. What it is ...you pay something like $20-25 a year. And they email you 6 recipes a week complete with shopping lists. (the reason 6 instead of 7 because that accounts for one day to either eat out or do something else on your own). Her recipes are GREAT and stuff the whole family will enjoy. Very tasty. She has about a dozen different types of menus for you to choose from depending on how you like to cook and/or health issues.

I've heard of the Body Clutter book from my years of subscribing to flylady but never bought the bullet and went and bought it.

I definitely can testify to the menu mailer program on savingdinner.com... AWESOME program!! Really helps organize you. I don't mind cooking...I just always hated figuring out WHAT's for dinner and this takes the guesswork out of it.

Lana

It is like a self help book to look at why we have problems with overeating, and not taking care of ourselves. Each of the women write a section in each chapter and then the end of the chapter will have questions to help you find the emotional and psychological areas of our lives that show their selves in our physical bodies.

It is not just a read but a look inside yourself. They advise you start the book with a journal to write the answers to the questions in the back.

Marla Cilley has a website to help declutter our houses. www.flylady.net

And Leanne Ely joined her team to help everyone get dinner on the table. She does weekly menus including shopping lists and recipes. www.savingdinner.com

I have met them both twice now. Once at Tulsa and once in Dallas. They are wonderful, marvelous, caring women.

I have heard of that book but never read it. After I finish this one, I might pick up a copy at the library.

I was reading thru the book "Body Clutter" by Marla Cilley and Leanne Ely. I had to write in my gratitude journal last night how much I appreciate the way these women bared their souls and their problems to help others. And the same holds for so many on my groups and SP too who share troublesome things in their lives to help someone else.

I am grateful for all these wonderful souls.

I am grateful...

1. ...That you can do so many things online now without having to drive or call.

2. ....that I found a hotel in Tallahassee that wasn't full. (Darn FSU & FAMU football!) Will be going there 11/1st for funeral services.

3. ...to have found out about the world runner day and being able to dedicate it to Max and donate to the American Heart Association in his memory.

4. my ex and I are so amicable and flexible when it comes to switching and planning visitation of my daughter.

I am grateful...

1. for the time I got to spend with my brother.

2. that my brother is going to be with my mother even though she said she wanted to be left alone. (he's the one person that probably can get by with showing up anyway and may be a calm shoulder to cry on)

3. for the beautiful changing of the seasons and for allergy medicine to help me thru it.

4. getting to enjoy the company of friends around an open outdoor firepit this weekend.

I am grateful for the past weekend. Two beautiful days of warmth and sunshine, and the time I had to spend with AJ.

I am grateful for my gf Di who came and took Jack outside to play ball.

I am grateful for my friend and vet, Kris, who was kind enough to come to our home late last night and help AJ on his way.

I am grateful that his passing was swift and painless.

Mostly, I am, and forever will be, grateful for the gift of having him in my life for over 12 years.

Sleep peacefully, my sweet baby boy.

Little by little, I'll whittle my middle!
