200 per day is great to start. I couldn't do daily because with my schedule I can't get to the gym every day. Ballistic is "explosive" movements. Swings or figure 8's where you load your legs and then use that push to move the bell are ballistic. Halo's aren't. When I did my 10,000 I didn't count the "around the world" moves I do passing the bell around me as swings, they were done as active rest. I counted double and single armed swings, figure 8's with a hold and snatches. But you can tailor your own challenge to what you want to do.

Hi Jen,

I just saw your post and it is never to late to start or join a challene. I am doing 200 daily for the rest of the month. I know that is long way from the 10,000, but that is one tough challenge. I have done it twice and not ready to do it again, but I will be doing 200 daily if you would like to join me. I will also be doing other cardio and strength training workouts, too.

Sharon.

Hi,

I'm new to most of this. Is it too late to get in on this? I dont know how long it will take me to do 10000. I do videos and don't count my swings. It is by time. So, I'm excited to start counting my swings. I have a dumb question. You said that all ballistic (I think that's what you called it) moves count. What does that mean. I am new to this, but so far I have done swings, and halos, and some basic stuff. Does all this count? Looking forward to trying this!

Finished up with 10,300 swings on Sunday....what a rush! I'm enjoying my new boyfriend who seems like he was ordered up special for me. Lots of fun. I did hit my goal weight of 128 with another group but plan to push to get to 125. But no rush. I know I can do it if I get a grip on my eating.

Hang in there....why not keep with the challenge and see how few days in May it takes to complete it?

I'm so glad you made a connection while at the gym! Look, now you've got him swingin' too! Congrats on nearing your weight goal......2lbs. to go! I'm nearing the end of the Challenge and don't think I'm going to make it. Seems all I've been doing lately is working out and eating! I'm still pushing through to the finish and will add last weeks swings later.......keep your fingers crossed for me and in the meantime I'll be on the look out for a NEW challenge for you!

I'm a little worried about where I'm going to go after a 10,000 swing month. This was supposed to be a challenge.

Yup....and we've been out quite a few times. I think I believe in love at first sight! Haven't had time to post with a whirlwind romance on the go and computer changes at work.

So far 8470:10,000 so it is looking like I can make the goal.

Tattooed boy wanted to do my swing workout on Sunday (800) swings and kept up pretty well for a novice. He is really strong and fit from other things but you know that his glutes and thighs were giving him grief the day after! In fact he was playing Mr Macho at the end of the routine so I made him do another 200 swings for a full 1000. He did use lower weights and reps sometimes and other times with the long 100 swing sets he'd drop out early and rest but I must say he did admirably well. I'm pretty impressed!

Life is good!

Wow Evo! You are smoking! 15 lbs down is amazing! I did 500 swings Friday and caught the eye of the cute tattooed guy and gave him my number. So after 800 swings yesterday we went out. OMG...it feels like I'm 14 again!

Today is a rest day, I work two 6 hr shifts at two jobs and can't fit in any fitness.

Total so far:

5970:10,000

The most important thing I learned so far is to relax everything that doesn't need to be tense when swinging. Conserve energy and just gently push through the tough patches. Listen to you body and rest when needed, but then push yourself just a little bit.

RodentMama your on fire! 800 swings is commendable, keep up the excellent work. You inspire me to master this technique!

I've almost got perfect form down on the snatches and will continue to practice with the lighter weight. Headed out of town for the weekend and the first thing I packed was my KB (before the 5 pairs of shoes!) Funny how our priorities change when we change our outlook.

Right smack in the middle of a "10 Week Challenge" and I'm down 15 lbs.! Go ME! This additional "Swing Challenge" is going to give me what I need to win it!

LAS VEGAS HERE I COME!

800 swings even today. It was a hard go starting though. My wrists were sore from shovelling on the weekend and I took it easy. I made it through and added some snatch sets to practice. I'm now REALLY good at snatch technique, it felt amazing. Probably time to move up in weight as I'm currently only using 20's to learn. Will move up to 25 tomorrow. I also saw my KB instructor and it was great to have a chat with her. She has a new class starting up so soon I may not be the only one swinging in the gym! Yay!

Way to go Evo! I'm really surprised that I'm having no pain at all from my workouts. Strange. Mind you I'm still learning snatches and only do about 40 of them each workout. Yay!
Have fun in LV!

Eeeeewwwweeeee! Ibprofen is my friend.......My shoulders are sooooo sore from those elusive snatches. Looking to drop to the 15lb. today for rotation on those. Making excellent headway even though I didn't get a single swing in over the weekend. Making up for those doesn't come easy but I'm working it out!

Yeah, I really love the bells so I find I want to do more then I've planned. Today I did the 740 swings planned (including a killer 200 with the 40lb kb) But I've been learning snatches and they have been part of my routine and I couldn't NOT try them out. They felt great. I only did 20, 10 on each arm and as I was doing them I realized that I don't count the 6 prep swings in my snatch routine, so really I did 12 more swings....740 + 20 + 12 = 772

2110:10,000

I'm a little hesitant to say anything and seem too new agey, but does anyone just go to a happy place swinging the bells? I find that the point where the bell hangs feels a lot like the space between breaths in meditation. It feels so good. This is what makes it so easy for me to do KB. It feels a lot like yoga (but looks more bad@$$.

I did Merisphere's favorite combos todays and am still perfecting that snatch so they slow me down a bit but I'm getting there. RodentMamma you should complete this challenge with no problem if you keep tossing up numbers like you had today! Keep up the good work ladies!

Oh, and I wanted to say I'm feeling amazing. Nothing hurts. I'm actually kind of humming when I'm done the workout. I'll have to see how I feel after tomorrow's killer 750 workout.

I am truly amazed at how great this feels.

Oh Evochick if you won that would be great! We had prizes for the 8 wk challenge I just finished but it was based on weight loss. I've only got 10 left to go so I didn't have a hope. Just did it for the incentive.

Yesterday I did 470 swings. I used 30 lbs for one sequence of single and double swings, 25 lbs for the sequences of figure 8 with a hold and 20 lbs for snatches. I'm learning snatches so I like a lighter weight for now.

Today I skated for an hour then went in and did my 30 lb/100 swing series after.

Total for today is: 1338:10,000

Yay! I have takers! I woke up this morning and was amazed at how great I felt. Usually something hurts. I woke up feeling great, nothing hurt and I felt like I had more energy then I've had for a long time. I think this month is going to serious rock. I planned out my days, I can't work out on Monday as I work two shifts and two different places so it is an enforced rest day for me. But this challenge really is doable and if I feel this good every morning after I've had a KB session I'm going to have the greatest month. And I'll have more time at the gym to maybe catch a glimpse of the tattooed guy on the Cybex machines :)

One of my favorite combos --especially for this challenge--one-hand swing, clean, high pull, snatch. If you do them in a 10-1 ladder, you're doing 440 swings.

Good luck with the challenge!

I've been intrigued by the Febuary challenge and wanted to do it. Now after completing an 8 week Shape Up Challenge at my gym I'm ready for a new challenge and feeling set to try for 10,000 swings.

This is the website of the original challenge with tips: http://nofearfitness.com/articles/10000-sw
ing-challenge.php

Learning that all ballistic moves count made me very happy. I did a great KB workout today and pulled off 768 swings. Weird number I know but I'm still tweeking my sets and when I do figure 8 with a hold I like to swing three times and throw to a hold which ends up in sets of 4 and not tens. I'll have to play with it.

If anyone has favorite moves that can be done as circle type sets please share. I like to be able to do combo sets over a long time and new moves keep me motivated.
