I plan to do Kettlebells this evening when I get home. I had a board meeting last night and didn't get home until after 9PM. I'm certainly feeling the effects of my previous workout and that makes me happy.

This morning's weight = 257 lbs

This new scale is crazy! I've got to make sure it's flat and level so I can get a true reading. I belive this reading is true. It's down from yesterday which was 258.something. I'm focusing on my eating and drinking my water.

I purchased a new scale this week. I just decided that I wanted to weigh myself daily, first thing in the morning. It has been so encouraging I wondering if it's broken!!

Friday 261.8
Saturday 254.4
Sunday 250.1

I'm guessing that it's all water weight. I've been focusing on drinking my water this weekend and I believe water is a natural duiretic. We'll see what the scale at work says tomorrow.

I've been studing Tracy Reifkind. I LOVE HER! Anyway, so far today I've done about 120 swings with a 17 lb Kettlebell.

This is the routine that I adapted from her blog:
20 2 hand swings
30 sec rest
20 transfers
30 sec rest
20 transfers
30 sec rest
20 1 hand L/R
30 sec rest
10 1 hand L / 10 1 hand R
30 sec rest
20 transfers

I think I misinterpreted what was suppose to happen. I should have been able to do the whole routine without a rest and then rest for one min. This might be a little advanced for me but I'm going to give it another shot in a little bit.

I feel it in my glutes!!!

I did 40 2 handed swings for 3 sets = another 120 REPS. That may be it for tonight but we'll see.

I've decided to start finding mini kettlebell workouts on youtube to keep myself motivated.

Today I did this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwme8rkzetg

I don't have two kettlebells that weigh the same so I had to improvise on some of the exercises, but overall I really liked the video.

weigh in 150ish - mid 150s at night and low 150s in AM - I'm slowly making my way down to the upper 140s. My optimum weight I think will end up being 145, although Wii fit says my optimum weight is 135. (No way- way to much muscle bulk) Today was pretty much an off day compared to my normal day.

Workout report for the day:
2 mile run, 15 min yoga, 20 min stretch
1 hour nap (I'm getting old- I luv naps)
30 min elliptical and 30 min yoga
AM weight 152.8
PM weight ?

Seriously, this is a light day for me. Tomorrow will include about 2 hours more stuff.

I overslept this morning (dog is at the kennel so I didn't have my sure-fire alarm clock) and am now heading out of town for two weeks. I won't have regular workouts but hope to at least move a little!

Thanks for waking this thread back up, Sarah! I have been sick all week and finally got a little workout in. No KBs today, but a nice walk with a few jog intervals. It was great to get outside and get moving.

I dropped of the ETK/ROP wagon, too! I did one of my Iron Core videos this week as well, swinging my heaviest KB. I felt it for two days! I am thinking of starting a three day cycle of KB the first day, running the second, then an easy day of yoga and maybe a short walk on the third. I am feeling really fried and hope this will get me going again. I have gained back the winter layer I lost - and I do not want a winter layer for summer!!

I am still holding at 141 and I haven't been doing the challenge with my husband for a couple weeks now, I actually have been doing the iron core dvd instead, which is a 45 minute workout and I really feel it in my legs!

I know what you mean. I gave my KB away to a friend to help them get started, and I wish I could have it back now. emoticon I am sure that she isn't using it and it would be nice to have a pair. Oh well. The nice thing is that you tried to help, and others will be more appreciative I am sure.

Thanks Sidney! Heh, I confess to be a little grumpy because I don't think my friend is working out with MY kettlebell and I'd really like it back. Oh well, I can always get another one. The interesting thing is, I've intrigued two other people, so I hope they'll get into it. People are really looking for a fun way to work out and I think kettlebells are the way to go. Last night it was getting late and I hadn't worked out (due to working on a local play) and I did seven minutes with my new heavy kettlebell and it was so much fun. I really didn't want to quit, but I'm not quite strong enough to do more at this point. I did a little too much the other day and I've been sore.

Today I did 10 mins of kettlebells with a 20 lb weight. I've been working with it since Wednesday, but haven't had time to post. I had been working out with a 15 lb ball and it was getting light, but I gave it away after talking to a diabetic co-worker. I figured she needed it more than I did... so I went to the store and moved up.

I'm not organized to do a video yet, but I feel like I made some progress today because I forced myself to go to 10 mins... I used the swing as my "resting exercise" and that worked really well. I still rested a bit, but I did a lot... I did some figure eights, some squats with the kbs (I forget the name), some... well, I can't remember all of the names, but I could tell each time I did a new round of swings, that my body was tired, so I feel like I worked my muscles to exhaustion... instead of just quitting prematurely.

great workout Dawn!

Today I tried something new, a few things actually. I finally did the full squat all the way down with the bell--for some reason I was afraid of those before. I also did belly dancing, which was fun even though I looked like a donkey. It was a fun, mixed up, high burn workout all things considered.

Guess I need to remember to post.

Yesterday I did a kettlebell workout with my 20 lb bell (my own disign) then followed it up with 40 minutes of yoga.

Today I did a short interval workout on the treadmill. I then did a body weight circuit for 18 minutes. Followed that with some nice stretches.

I haven't found it yet - I know it is in that messy house somewhere! I did my Iron Core Express video this morning (yesterday got away from me) and could tell my HR was way up there. Such a short workout but a great one. Saturday and Sunday I will be at a yoga teacher training. I'm really looking forward to it but know I'll be sore after doing so much yoga. I'm hoping it will help inspire me to get back on track and stay there! I'm also looking forward to getting back to basics with my yoga practice.

I do think one bad day a week is a good idea. The thing that killed me this time was going to visit family and slipping into OLD habits. Then, instead of just getting over it and moving on, I did it the rest of the visit and this week at home. Ugh. Cancelled out my hard work from the previous 3 weeks. Back to work!

I have been alternating good and bad eating days. You can get back on the wagon hun! Why not give yourself one bad day a week?

I hope you find your monitor soon. I hate not having it. I feel a bit sore today but not too bad, just really tired. Sorry to be brief. I am off to bed.

I'd like to figure that out, Sidney! I just need to find the strap for my HR monitor. I haven't seen it in weeks. Pitiful, huh? The other bad news is that I have had five really bad eating days. The good news is that before that I had a 21 day streak of (mostly clean) eating in range, so I know I can do it! I did my Iron Core Volume 1 video yesterday (more good news) and hope to get a quick KB workout in this afternoon. Maybe Iron Core express or maybe just some swings and presses. Walked on the treadmill this morning, too.

I've never actually fallen but the cushion is there just to reassure myself.

Cardio Coach is a CD cardio program.

Tuesday Morning Did Keith Weber's Extreme Kettlebell Cardio Workout Minus the Turkish Get Ups Section 47 Minutes. Kicked my arse good. Had sweat trickling down my back which is pretty rare for me. I'm not a big sweater. Had to jump in the shower again before work.

I wear glasses, so face falling is particularly scary! So far I have only had the fear - no actual falling...

Yesterday I went on a short walk/jog with my 10 year old in the afternoon - so nice to get outside since the cold rain is arriving this morning, and a nice bonus workout. 35 minutes of step cardio for me this morning and I hope some kettlebells this afternoon and a little yoga tonight. We are back at school this week and just barely getting into the SWING of things!

I hope you'll be a little less sore today Sidney. It sounds like you and I are in the same boat with starting to build strength again. We have done it before and we know we can do it again!

Dawn - is Cardio Coach a DVD? I've not heard of that one - may just have to google it :). Have a great day (or night) you two!

Hi! I am definitely boycotting weigh-ins these days but have been working out more and feeling better. This morning I did 30 min of cardio/step on the BOSU and will teach yoga tonight. Aren't arm balances fun? :) I've been starting back up slowly with my kettlebell - just about 10 minutes a day three days last week and plan for the same this week. Swings, cleans, presses, good mornings and one-legged deadlifts. I loaned out my 20 lb KB when I hurt my back and don't have it back yet - but am really not ready for the 12 kg. It is great for everything but the presses, though. I am doing push-presses to build my strength back up to doing real ones with it!

I had a good workout with my KBs today. A mix of everything really, but I was disappointed with how much strength I have lost. 100 swings in 4 minutes is way below what I used to do, and only with my 8kg KB, so huge loss there! Oh well, lots of room for progress.

Hey Dawn, sounds great! emoticon keep it up! I haven't worked out yet today but I will. I am having breakfast and catching up on the treads. I am glad to see this in use again. I did weigh in today --the same as yesterday, thankfully, as we had another party and I did eat a piece of cake. I saved all my calories for the party, so I guess that saved me, but I better work out because that kind of good luck never lasts emoticon

Today we have another party, so MUST get my KBs in before then so I don't have a problem tomorrow. emoticon

OK, off I go! 142.4 today!

Since this thread is here I might as well use it. I'm not interested in weighing myself though so I'll just report my workouts.

Today Friday I did a 25 minute Kettlebell/Body Weight circuit using my 15 lb bell. Fininshed up with 20 minutes of yoga (sun salutes, standing and inversions)

Thursday I did 20 minutes of yoga (Arm Balances and inversions)

Wednesday 4 mile walk and 25 minutes of kundalini yoga

Tuesday 10 minutes of kettlebell/body weight circuit and 24 minutes of power yoga

Monday 2 mile walk and 90 minutes of yoga (hip openers)

Sunday 30 minutes of Kettlebell/body weight circuits and 20 minutes of yoga (hip openers, standing)

Hang in there Liz, tomorrow you have a fresh new day to turn it around. Just remember how bad you felt today and then reach for something green instead. Flush it all out with lots of water and treat yourself to a nice long bubble bath and lots of watermelon instead of whatever else you were eating. If board and eating, start a project like rearranging the kitchen cupboards--that always takes me a long time and keeps me occupied without thinking of snacking.

YOU CAN DO IT!

UGH. This is day three of REALLY crappy eating for me - and today the cereal is the least of my worries. I really, really, really need to get back on track. I have felt so over-carbed today that I was reminded about why I don't drink any more. A very draggy, heavy (shocker) feeling.

Great Liz, and I am glad you are thinking of ditching the cereal. It's not great for them either. I was excited to actually have something to post in the challenge, so that was fun for me too.

You are both right. The kids love cereal, of course, so we'll have some rebellion getting rid of it but I just may have to do it. :)

Great job getting back to swinging, Sidney!

I just finished 2 rounds of my Kettlebell Express DVD (and registering for the new team challenges - whoo-hoo!). Felt great.

I agree with Zorbs, just throw it out. Don't buy it. If cereal is your vice, get rid of it. Nobody really needs to eat cereal anyway. There are so many other healthy breakfast choices. Most cereals are just sugar. Get some grapes and freeze them, they are so good as sweet treats. Again, smoothies are great too.

I was having this same problem for years, and I have finally broken the habit by not eating anything "unmelty" (by which I mean not mostly comprised of water) past 8ish. Vegies and fruit after 8pm or you change into a gremlin emoticon

With me it is always either diet or exercise. I need to get them both moving at once now. It's like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time. Just takes practice and coordination. emoticon

Today I finally did it. I picked up my 8kg and went swinging. I am so relieved and feel so much better about myself now. Thanks for being so patient with me!

The old don't have it in your house trick really works for junk food. Almost every night after dinner my hubby complains that he's hungry (he eats tiny portions at meals) and wants to raid the cupboards but I tell him there's nothing junky, he'll whine for a minute and trust me, he always survives without the snack!

Anybody out there? I seem to be having a conversation with myself! Anyway, today was a bad day for me foodwise, but great with the workout (BOSU intervals and press ladders). I do really well all day with my eating and then night falls and I fall apart. I need to figure out a way to stay out of the kitchen cupboards at night!! OK, I know HOW to do it - I just need to do it!!

I just did my Iron Core Volume 2 video, a little yoga, and a short KB/bodyweight workout with my 10 year old. I hope everyone is having a great day!

OK, so I lied about taking two days off. But it is really Sidney's fault ;). I joined her two week streak challenge so did short KB workouts yesterday and today. Yesterday I also did a step video and today did a BOSU cardio video. I just got my HRM so am having fun knowing how many calories I'm actually burning. I am eating lots since I am not trying to lose, but am mostly staying on track with what I'm eating.

Anybody else up for the two week challenge??? C'mon folks, let's see what we can accomplish in two weeks! Varying up the exercises and keeping workouts short will keep us from overtraining, and the consistency will be great for all of us.

:)

PS Edit - I just push mowed the front lawn for another 349 calories (55 min). It is no darn wonder that I am usually lighter in the summer than winter!

Hey everybody! I tried the Iron Core Volume 3 - Express workout today. I did it twice since it is short, but it'll be great when I only have a short time to have a 20 min. dvd. When school starts in the fall I know I'll be pressed for time a lot more. I really enjoyed it - couldn't resist doing it today even though I did Kbs yesterday, too. I plan to take 2 days off (of KBs) for extra rest. I also finally got a heart rate monitor! I am so excited to have it (a Polar F6)- didn't have it yet when I did the video though. I am really eager to see how many calories I'm really burning compared to what SP says.

Great job again, Morkai - keep on swinging!! :)

Way to go, Morkai!! (and welcome back to the wagon ;))

I am glad to be home from vacation and excited about getting back into my routine (although not having a routine was nice, too!). I did a step cardio video this morning and hope to sneak away for a short run tonight. After running a lot on vacation, I am realizing just how much more of a workout it is than my cardio videos. Yesterday I did my Iron Core Volume 2 dvd. My only KBs for today were 3 sets of 20 swings - with Godzilla, my 35 pound kb. She didn't get to go on vacation with me and I'm sure she missed me! (I did take my 20 lb and 12 kg bells, though!)

Well I fell off the wagon but I am back :)

Started a new workout plan which means I am actually crawling out of bed early and doing my KB workouts in the am. Going good so far :)

Yesterday was 15 mins of 2handed swings (18 swings per minute) totaling 270.

Yesterday evening I did an hour of jiu jitsu.

This morning I did 5 mins of alternating TGU's which resulted in 5 per side (and boy are my shoulders feeling it now :) followed by 10 mins of 2 handed swings. I started at 18spm again but suddenly realised on set 2 I had just done 20. So I carried on doing 20 for the rest of the session giving me a total of 198. Felt really good too.

Going riding tonight for an hour :)

Had a great KB workout outdoors today, which was fun. Tried the double handed high overhead swings, which are killer but so great! I expect to looked ripped tomorrow after that!!! (Just kidding--but not really) emoticon

Oh her name is Babybell. :D

I would just like to state for the record that Burpees are my personal nemesis. :P

Today was my last Runner's Yoga class -- we did sprints (6x one minute sprints w/ 3min recovery) and then some yoga and stretching, then I hopped on the stationary bike and did some crunching madness when I got home.

Tomorrow will be swim and bike only, but Saturday I should be getting in some KB time finally. :D

Will run before work, go to the gym after for some biking and full body ST.

TGU with a 20lb medicine ball
KB figure of eight between legs

Hi and welcome again! Do some swings to get started - work on form and just have fun with that til you're ready to branch out. If I'm not doing a video with my KBs, I often just stick to swings and presses (and sometimes getups - which I know I shoudl do more of!).

Hello everyone!! I'm a newbie invited by ZORBS - THANKS!!!! :D

I just got my first kettlebell this weekend and it is teeny, but I hope that it is a good starter for me.

Today I did some upper body ST -- regular old stuff, no KB time, and swimming.

Hope to really get kicked off with my KB soon! :D Anyone have some suggestions for a good basic routine for a beginner? I see the basic moves and whatnot, but not sure how one usually puts together a workout using the KBs.

Thanks guys,

Weigh in at 178.4 this morning, up a little but still in a happy area for me.

BJJ is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It's a grappling ground style which is lots of fun :) Chokes and limblocks to get your opponent to tap out is the aim of the game.

TGU's are Turkish GetUps. The evil Kettlebell (KB) exercise that works your shoulders and stomach from what I am feeling this morning :)

Hope that explains it all,

Keep it up guys, we are rockin :)

whee, TGU with 20lb bell, 5 mins each side - 7 on the left and 11 on the right.

And just finished my 320 swings in 20 minutes. 16 swings per minute. Actually worked out to be 28-30 seconds for the swinging every time. Didn't expect it to be that even.

My shoulders are fried lol! Now I gotta go shower, even the cats are avoiding me :)

OMG, I was 178.0 this morning, that was totally unexpected. *cheer*

Rolled again last night at BJJ class, warm up was a bit more brutal than usual. Upper body is pretty sore today and I got a bunch more bruises to add to my growing collection :) Decided that kb workouts after BJJ class are not gonna happen just yet, just too wiped.

Riding lesson was cancelled for tonight so I will be doing 10 mins of TGU's and a high intensity 20 minute swing session instead.

I had a perfect day today (well almost-- I ate a small piece of cheese that was in a sandwich I bought). So I am feeling mighty fine! emoticon

Great eating, no cheating, AND 1 hour of KBs that were FUN!!!! I got my swings in there before the end of the month too! 520 in 16min. I am happy with that!

Gonna kick it's butt!!! emoticon

I'm fessing up to a gain today. My scale is bumping up 1.6lbs. That's OK cause I am going to kick it back down fast and further than before!

Funny about the late weigh-in. I am the same way!

This weekend was a variety of martial arts styles - we are working on deciding what he should do as far as a school. This was his first experience with any of it. He had a ball, so now we have to figure out what he will commit to studying. By the way, Matt Serra was there doing some JJ with the kids - and today the guy who helped him (forget the name) saw my kettlebell t-shirt and talked about how much he loves them! Whoo-hoo!

lol Liz, sounds like your kids are having fun :) What style is your lad training in? I'm looking forward to getting a great workout out of 20 mins again. Although it does feel a bit weird wrapping up after 20 mins. Kinda feel like I am cheating almost.

Weigh in today was 179.2, I love saturdays, I get to sleep in late and I always weigh in lower.

Never did my workout last night. Planned to do it after BJJ class today but I was utterly wiped after I spent 10 mins rolling properly. You really use every single muscle in your body trying to maneuver your opponent around. Already feeling it in my upper body now. Gonna try and get it in tomorrow morning before I do the yard work, thats gonna be tough on it's own though as I have to tame my overgrown wysteria and we are still shoveling dirt around after our new septic tank was installed.

Hey, I have been really bad about not exercising for about 2 weeks now and it really shows! emoticon I am making this confession to you all and promising myself here publicly that I am back on track! I wanted to do KBs today, but I did a super house cleaning that I feel counts for something as I scrubbed and scrubbed for 6 hours. Except the bedroom (which has to be done next weekend), the rest of my house is spotless! I feel so much better. I needed to clear out the clutter and organize everything so that I could be more efficient mentally and physically. Do you ever get like that and NEED to clean to become organized? I do. Anyway, I have turned the corner and am back on track now. I have 6 weeks to kick some major ass before going home. I do not fit into the dress that I plan to wear for my friend's wedding this summer, so I HAVE to get my butt moving! I have not yet worn it, and I refuse to buy another dress. It is gorgeous and Darren bought it for me 2.5 years ago when we thought we would get married on the beach in Hawaii. It was what I was planning to wear then. Now I will wear it for my friends wedding, which will also be our first anniversary. SO THERE! It is a done deal!

Good luck on those getups, Morkai! They are tough - I started with a dumbbell and still will do them with a smaller weight a lot of the time.

Way to go on your swings!!

I had a nice short workout today - just swings at 60% and some press ladders. I did some halos and squats for my warmup. I agree that those squats are a challenge! My total workout was only 20 minutes but felt great. I spent the ENTIRE DAY either in the car or watching my son at a (VERY cool) martial arts program. He is brand new to martial arts and had 8 hours of classes today. The second and final day of this conference is tomorrow, so we'll do more of the same. It was fun talking about how kettlebells can help him with his martial arts. Yes, Darren, you were mentioned at length ;).

I am feeling great about the scale even after only a short workout and going over on calories. I should actually ROAR abotu that - today is the first day in June that I have gone over my calorie range. This is an AMAZING feat for me - and I didn't even go all that far over!! Whoo-hoo! I am so tired and will go to bed early and be back on track tomorrow without too much damage done. :)

OK - my son is now trying to teach some of what he learned today to his little sister. I'm thinking some supervision may be in order. Gotta run!

Thanks Liz :)

Today's weighin was 181.2 yes those ounces count *grin*

Last night thanks to Liz and Darren I found my max swing in a timed period.

Started off with 10 mins of halo's, prones and wall squats. Those squats are humbling to say the least. Over confident on the first one and cracked my chin on the wall *sigh* Reposition to about 3" away and I can almost touch the floor with the tips of my fingers at that distance. Move up an inch and I start falling over backwards.. not sure whats up there. Will keep practising.

After that I got started, using my 20lb gofit bell. I decided on 10 mins as my time and managed to do 5 sets of reps within that period: 65, 30, 40, 30, 35 for a total of 200 swings. *yay me*

I would have liked to had a full rest day as Liz suggested but I really wanted to get a workout in last night before I start sliding into bad habits again.

Tonight I will be doing TGU's for the first time with my 20lb bell. Wish me luck :)

Figured I'd stick my nose in here :)

Todays weigh in was 181.4.

Last nights workout was circuit training. I surprised myself by being able to keep running for almost 15 mins, granted by the end it wasn't very fast at all but it was a good start.

We were split into pairs and a circuit was setup. We start running and after a few laps the first pair breaks off and starts the first exercise. When they move to the second exercise the next pair breaks off from running and starts. This goes on until all the pairs have been through the circuit. If the first pair finishes before the last pair then they go back to running. Since we were the last pair I got to start with a lot of running. The idea is they are all partner assisted exercises, you do it for 45seconds and then switch and help your partner. Thus 1.30min at each exercise. Being out of shape girlies we had to modify several of the exercises and they weren't always conducive to partner assistance except for moral.

Circuit was this:
Jumping pullups
Medicine ball throws
Slosh pipe squats
Bodyups
Pushups
Cleans/box squats
Prisoner legs
Burpees/rowing

Slosh pipe is a 15' long pvc pipe half filled with water. Each partner held one end and alternated squats.

Bodyups are where you lay on the ground and your partner holds your feet. You then stand up with no assistance from your arms.. tough. We didn't manage this.

Great Monday workout!! I like having my Mondays be my most hard core workout days - it really starts the week well. Anyway, 2 KB workouts today - first heavy press ladders, then VO2 swings (I set the cadence a while back with my 20 pound kb, but did the swings with the 12 kg - didn't quite make it on a couple of rounds but I'm getting there!). After a little break, I did my Iron Core Volume 2 video which I really love - after the first circuit I went back down to the 20 pound KB for the presses... went down on the third circuit for snatches.

Thank you Sid I appreciate the kind words. I am tickled that you were able to swim painlessly and keep up and wow, 2.5KM? awesome. Yeah I would say the KB's definitely are helping with your swimming.

I am going to start back very slowly with the KB's so I don't goof up again and go ridiculous :)

Thanks!
Hugs!

Gar, you are doing an amazing job too!

Today I did a swim finally and it felt great! Despite being away from the pool for 6 months I got back into my Master's Swim team and kept up--though I was the last. We did 2.5km and I am not in pain, so I guess the KBs are working!

Great workout there VIC, but too bad about your bike emoticon
