This week I found some champagne mangos in the grocery store. I haven't tried them yet but I'm hoping they taste as good as regular mangos. My husband pulled them out of the fridge last night and siad "what the hell are these?" LOL

Hey I posted the recipe over in the Team Recipe box if anyone is interested. I was going to post it and share it on my blog but then I realized I couldn't because it isn't my recipe.

I love steamed broccoli...

My new best friend is the ziploc steamer bags... So I tried one of the recipes in the insert it was so YUMMY.

broccoli
almonds
ginger
salt
a little margarine (or butter) it only called for 1 TBL so I don't think that is too bad.

My husband who will only eat broccoli with cheese smothering it also thought it was very good! I'll post in my recipe box shortly! It is a KEEPER!

I went to a local pick-your-own produce farm and was starred down by some okra. I've never cooked okra and the only time I've ever had it was at a fair... you guessed it... fried. So I cut it up and soaked it in lemon juice, then added it to a vegetable casserole with tons of veggies and some tomato sauce. It wasn't bad, but I don't think I'm going to buy it again.

Tried it... didn't really like it...

My next "try it" is going to be rhubarb.

I tried cauliflower last week for the first time! I was a little hesitant because trying new foods always turns out bad for me, but I really liked it! Not as much as broccoli, which I could probably eat everday (cooked or raw doesnt matter to me!) but I was really impressed! I'll have to find something new to try this week!

Okay, I just looked at the topic name "Try It...You'll like it" and after spending two weeks with my nephews and lots of Yo Gabba Gabba - I'm guessing that's where you got the name?!?

If not you need to look up Yo Gabba Gabba and the Try it, you'll like it...there's a party in my tummy song. It's extremely annoying (as is everything on the show) but very catchy. My sister and I find ourselves singing this to our kids at the table!

I did try Strawberry Tomatoes this week. They are essentially larger cherry tomatoes. Same basic animal, different name.

I love fruits and veggies and tend to try them when I get a chance. I'm just not good at cooking for myself, but I have a two-month menu that I developed and was using last spring before school ended. (I'm a teacher.) It's a matter of habits, for me.

Anyway, though I've tried a lot of different fruits and veggies, are there are varieties I haven't tried, so this sounds like fun! Of all of the things listed so far, the only thing I haven't tried is star fruit. It looks a little intimidating! =)

The next time you're able, pick up a spagetti sqaush, cut it in half lengthwise (use a sharp knife!!), put it upside down in a glass dish with just a bit of water, cover it with plastic wrap, and microwave for 8 minutes or bake it for about 20-30 or until it's easily stabbed with a fork. Let it cool a bit or if you're impatient, like I am, use a potholder to pick it up in one hand and use a spoon to scrape out the innards. The squash threads up like spagetti. Delicious with spagetti sauce and a little parm cheese!! Top with grilled chicken and you've made low-carb chicken parm-i-john (I can't spell it, so I sounded it out, lol). Or you can just eat it with a bit of salt and butter, which is another favorite. =)

had it once as a kid, it was yummy. Cut it like a kiwi in slices and just kind of peel the skin off around the edge. I think I remember it was tart.

On my last trip to the grocery store I bought a star fruit. I have no idea how you prepare it or eat it, but as soon as I figure that out, I'll let you all know how it was. As most of you already know, I have never been a fruit or veggie person...but I am learning to try new things.

I've had these before, but, Champagne Grapes - they're tiny little grapes that are adorable. The other great thing about them is that you don't have to cut them up for your babies. They are about the size of a small blueberry.

I also tried Japanese eggplant. It was in a garden lasagna recipe but the flavor and texture was better than a regular eggplant. It's much longer and skinnier than a regular eggplant with a lighter purple color to the skin.

I also tried vege-italian sausage links. I pan seared them and then added them to the vege lasagna. They were okay. Nothing to write home about. They had little flavor by themselves but gave the vege lasagna a little boost when added. They are definitely NOT as good as good old full fat italian sausage!

The first time I tried aspargas I was surprised that I liked it, too. I always thought that I hated veggies. Just turns out that I never really tried them before.

This week I tried Asian Pears for the first time. They are round like an apple but taste like a pear. I didn't think they were too bad and will probably eat them again.

I tried it...and I liked it.

We eat avocados allot. I don't really like it plain but if you make it into Guacamole it is wonderful. I really like it on turkey sandwiches instead of mayo or on hamburgers. I buy a mix to make Guacamole that uses two avocados which adds 60 calories to the avocados and says it makes 12 servings. Avocados have allot of fat in them but it is the healthy fat. If anyone is interested in trying this I buy the package mix at Walmart its called "Guacamole Mix" usually found in the produce area. Let me know if you like it.

It wasn't new as I've had them before but this morning at work the kitchen sent grapefruit for the kids. They weren't realy excited about them. I think 3 of the 9 kids had one! But it had been a long time since I've had one and I enjoyed it. Might pick up one or two for next week just to mix things up a bit!

Maybe I'll try lentils this coming week...in my search for non-disgusting veggies. One of these days I'll work up to trying the avacado but I know I'll feel the same way Amy does about it. LOL

My mom always raves about how good avacado is. I finally got up the nerve to try it (the color and texture of it gross me out a little) and I definitely don't like it.

My newest find is lentils (which I believe is part of the bean family... that's veggie right?). I love it with brown rice but I find myself putting it in alot of things like marinara, soups, tuna salad, egg salad, etc. I don't know that it really has a defined taste but it seems to make everything better!

I'm in search of the pink lentils that Roco used on Biggest Loser this season but haven't been able to find them, so I continue to cook them for 30 minutes. I've been cooking a batch of them at the beginning of the week and then store them in the refrigerator and use them when needed. The package says that they can be stored for a week so that has been working for me!

When I went shopping I bought a Mango. Never had one before. I even had to go on the internet to find out WHAT you do with it. LOL Last night was "Mango Night." I made everyone try some, and out of the four of us, nobody was crazy about it. I did force myself to eat about a cup of it so I could count it as a serving of fruits. So........

Tried it...didn't really like it. emoticon

I made a SP recipe called Chicken Taco Stew. It had kidney beans & black beans in it. I did not think I liked beans but in this stew, they were very good.

I have never been a big fruit and veggie eater. Part of the problem is I have never tried them.

Here is the challenge: Each time you go grocery shopping, buy a fruit or vegetable ( or something healthy) that you have never tried. Once you eat it, report back here and let us know how it was. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
