Thanks. I went to the sight. The picture was adorable. I may try to print it and take it to the groomer next time. I remember the breeder saying something about a "Boyd's Bear" cut. Noone ever heard of it.

I just found a great picture of a teddy bear cut, which I think would look so cute on him. You can leave his face fuzzy instead of shaving it if you want. here is the link:

I really don't know what to ask for. I have had him for over a year and I am still experimenting. I have asked for pictures but all they have are pencil drawings. I have no vision.

I did like the picture of "Huck" - the toy poodle that got lost. (It's a book.)

If that is April in the picture - she looks gorgeous.

There might be a name for it but I prefer to itemize what I want done. Maybe not tapered legs though LOL!!! Also, be sure and ask your groomer to drain his anal glands if they do that. And trim his nails and ear hair. I don't want April to think I'M the EVIL EAR HAIR PULLER HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I don't think I need to worry about how far Colman can walk.

As far as pictures? I just had him groomed. I always ask for fuzzy face, curly "fat" hair body, and legs tapered down. Is there a name for that? Well, anyway I think she got carried away. His face is cute as ever, but he looks so little and scrawny! She really clipped him down. (She found mats deep in his fur.) Anyway the short cut is easier to comb even if it looks wierd. (When he sits you see bare spots near his knees???)

When BooBoo was young I asked his vet how far he could walk. The answer was " as far as you can. BooBoo was a toy poodle.

The past few weeks, Colman and I have been walking 4 miles on some days! He does very well. I think he could go 5 miles if I only could! LOL

That little prance of theirs is fun to watch. I like poodle walking, too.

Even April as small as she is (5 lbs.) can go a mile and would probably go farther if I would let her. She will come home and drink water and sleep soundly though so I know she has gotten a good exercise. She stays right out in front of me no matter how fast I walk. Her little tiny legs are a blur some times LOL!!! I love Poodle Walking!!!

Maggie can't go as far because of the surgery she had to her knees. They don't want to overtax the joints. But when Shilo was alive, she could easily do several miles. We did a 5K walk together for charity more than once. And we'd walk 2 miles out and 2 miles back to get ice cream treats. If they get tired, you pick them up.

Bright Blessings

My Maltipoos are 13 and 14 pounds and they can walk 3 miles and then come home and run around the house roughousing after a drink of water. Bentley has mild hip displaysia and he hasn't had any problems walking that distance. Now I have a 5 month old Maltipoo puppy, Barkley, who is 9 pounds right now. We have walked a half hour so far. As the weather gets cooler we will be walking more. Only thing that I worry about with the longer walks is the dogs paws can get raw. I love walking with my little pack of fluffy dogs. emoticon Lorraine

Jane has given you sound advice. I can't help you because Zoey doesn't go for walks. She just runs around a lot outside in a fenced in yard and also runs in the house. Also, Zoey wouldn't be considered a miniature since she weighs between 8-9 1/2 lb s.

If I could walk for exercise, I'd take her with me.

Just make sure you have plenty of water (for you both) and enjoy your trek!

I don't think you're doing him any harm, and well know the "tired pup is a good pup" phrase. I've taken miniatures on 10K walks. If they're getting tired, they'll let you know (and you can carry them). Most minis and even toys can do 2 to 4 miles easily, as Colman's enthusiasm and prancing shows. A young pup like him probably can do 10k (6 mi) without being carried. Exercise is good for pups as well as people, and it seems you're working up the distances fairly gradually. The distances will not only build up muscles and a positive attitude, they'll also likely keep his nails in trim.

Jane.

Colman is a 15-month old miniature poodle. I take him on all my walks. Lately I have upped my walks to 2 and 3 miles. He prances beside me all the way. The weather has been perfect, I take water & treats, and the walk is easy. He seems happy to me.

I am concerned that I may be asking too much -- especially as I try to up it to 4 or 5 miles. Does anyone know how far little poodle-doodles can walk without causing harm?
