I've found it referred to as Mt. Croagh Patrick, but since a croagh is a high hill, its sort of like calling it Mt. Mt. Patrick... Its a sacred site - first to the Celts and now to Christians. Its said that St Patrick climbed it in 441 AD. I did a Google search for places named Patrick and only came up with lists of places named Dublin and Shamrock.

As an amusing aside... my first name is Patricia (Ann is my middle name) and I was born on March 16 - just 7 minutes too early for St. Patrick's Day. My paternal grandmother was 100% Irish, which is probably why my father named me Patricia (he would never give a reason). I'm turning 50 this year!

I have been AWOL again this month. emoticon A pit orchestra (Seussical The Musical), a Valentines Day outing, snow shoveling, and two broken down cars. Today I will be practicing handbells (Bellfest is next Saturday) and shopping for a used minivan (the old one needs a new engine). I will not be making it to Valentine this month emoticon I am hoping for some of the snow/ice to melt so I can start walking at least partway to work (and save on bus fare!). And Yoga is back on the schedule again...I have missed most of the classes this month and can feel my muscles getting tight.

I remember walking down 25 floors many years ago when I worked downtown. Brutal. Can't imagine walking up! Good for you and it's a nice way to honor your father.

I'll be in NY on St. Patrick's day. Taking my nephew on a New York Adventure (my name for it, not a tour) for his spring break. We've been doing his spring break together since he was 8. It was Disney World for 5 years. And now he is 13, and bored with Disney. I am too. I have to confess that I am a New Yorker and so while this might seem exotic, it's my old stomping ground. We won't be in the city for the parade, as we are headed back to Baltimore that morning to return him home.

I like all the ideas related to Patrick. I don't have strong preference except to say that we have recently walked in Virginia during our memorable month ending at Goose Pimple Junction.

Gotta go meet my friend for the Saturday walk around the lake.

WooHoo Joan! Lets see... March. St. Pattys Day, Spring.... can anybody think of anything else? Obviously there's Ireland or St Pat's cathedral in NYC. There's also a Patrick AFB in Florida (affiliated with Cape Canaveral), or Patrick County VA. I haven't found anywhere named spring, but I'd bet that Kevin will come up with something interesting.

Well I'm doing well according to the doctor! "Mild" was the belated response from the carotid Doppler test. I bet it cost a lot to come back as "mild". (That's a pretty detailed report!) The doctor had to call them while I was there to get the "report".

Well I can exercise again... I wish I wanted to!

Ann, my knees hurt after reading the description you sent on the big climb. Actually my knees could use a few days of rest!

Elliptical today. Was going to take the day off as a rest day - my knees could use it - but the stress of the day necessitated some cardio. It was either that or a major search of the building for chocolate. I went with the cardio. Will now eat a banana & drink some milk and maybe go home by 4pm.

The Big Climb is in Seattle, in the tallest downtown skyscraper (the Columbia Tower). The firefighters do it earlier in the month, in full gear. Can you imagine? They only take a few thousand entries - maybe 5000. You can be a racer (timed) or a climber (untimed) and climbers and racers are in different stairwells. It benefits the local chapter of the leukemia and lymphoma society. Since my dad died of myelodysplastic syndrome, which is not a blood cancer per se but is a close enough relation that the LLS funds study of it, this event is dear to my heart both for the oh-so-fun challenge and as a chance to remember and honor him. This year there will be a poster in one of the stairwells with his picture and name. My dad was, BTW, a life-long athlete who probably would not have lived as long had he not been so active. Now that my brother and I have become active as adults (I think that John Bingham's term is something like "adult-onset athletes), that's a part of him that I can say all of his kids have inherited. My sisters have both contributed and my brother is my constant cheerleader, so its really a family thing. Last year I finished in just over 20 minutes. This year I'll turn 50 4 days before it, so it'll be my first event in the 50 and older age group and I'm shooting for the same time or better. So, I'll be doing lots of stairs for the next month!

Ann - tell us more about this big climb. Is it in Seattle? Lots of people? A t-shirt for entering?

A little bit of a run on the treadmill followed by some time on the elliptical. The facilities guys have been doing some construction work in our building -- adding more seating - near the fitness center. They managed to knock out our satellite TV in the fitness center and have been trying to get it working again this week. I'm listening to a book on tape and enjoying the "show" of trying to get the TVs working again. They're not having much success. I think they need a 10 year old to help them!

VB, you rode your bike! Good for you!

The temp yesterday was near 50. Nice. Our praise team uses in-ear monitors but I forgot my headphones at home, so I had to walk home to get them during the break. What a great day to have to make an extra trip.

Pit orchestra is over and it was fun. The students did a great job; it is a challenging musical. I talked to a friend who is doing a show that has five weekends of performances. Glad mine was only one weekend.

I have today off. DH and his friend have Valentine's Day plans for me and the friend's wife. All we know is that we should dress up.

Northern, midwestern, western and northwestern friends...it's 61 degrees here. I was going to be a slacker today and do nothing, but some friends from church needed a book and I had an extra copy. So I just rode my bike over to their house and back. And NOW I'm going to be a slacker for the rest of the day.

Got a pot of soup on the stove - chicken, corn, chipolte peppers in adobo sauce (hot!), onions, peppers, chicken stock, chopped tomatoes and some brown rice. So I can be a slacker because supper is pretty much ready for later.

Kevin - glad you got some good news. Thinking about you for the rest.

I broke the clip on my pedometer so I have to guess at yesterday and today's mileage. I had a carotid Doppler/ultrasound done today with blood work. Fasting since last night and got home about 3:30pm with a headache. I feel a little better now. I need to sit and relax, but I can't.
