Ha! Made my goal! 38.5 miles walked. It seems pitiful to me that I struggle to walk 38 miles in a month when two years ago, I was walking 100 miles in a month. But life changes, priorities change, our bodies change. I am glad to finally meet a goal.

And my knee is feeling much better after the extended rest I took in June and July. I also think that yoga stretching has helped immensely. It kept my muscles flexible even though I wasn't exercising much.

Glad to hear others have made their goal as well. I like the reminder that even if I am short of my goal, I still tried harder than if I hadn't had the goal.

Jan - I think walking up the river was the highlight of the trip for me -- even though I managed to "roll" both ankles during that hike. The left ankle is still a tiny bit swollen. Walking on it the next day was a bit of a challenge.

I will be setting up the October walk - North Carolina as promised - after I get some supper.

Here's a wrap-up from my vacation walking/hiking. None of this (except Vegas and the walk up the Narrows at Zion) was level. But then again the walk up the Narrows at Zion was in a river going upstream for about 2 miles. Did I say I was walking IN the river?!?! There was some (little) resistance from the water which was flowing at 41 cubic feet per second. We told told think of that as 41 basketballs per second.

Hi Team...I'm back from an awesome trip to Utah to hike in Zion and Bryce Canyons. Jan - we walked up with Virgin River - canyoneering shoes, neoprene socks and stout walking sticks - to where we were able to span the canyon with six of us holding hands. So cool.

I did tons and tons of walking, but I'm a bit too tired to write it all down.

Definitely a great trip. I'll try to write it up tomorrow.

Joan, have a great time! When I moved back to Seattle from AZ my sister flew down and we drove a UHaul back with my stuff. We cut through the SW corner of Zion. The whole trip was a blast, but we still talk about Zion. There's a tunnel in that corner of the park that is not very wide... our UHaul was just big enough that we had to pay an extra fee to enter because they had to stop traffic coming the other way for us to go through and we had to drive through on the center line. The whole park (the little of it we had time to visit) was beautiful and driving through that tunnel as though we were alone (there was traffic behind us, but we couldn't see them) was so cool!

Have a good time in Vegas and Southern Utah, Joan. My favorite is canyon is Zions, but Bryce is nice also. Hope you have a good time and you should have some nice warm weather. If you run into any problems, I have lots of friends and family in that area to help out!

Not sure if I will be able to do much walking for the next couple of days--I took a little slip (in my slippers) down some tiled stairs and have a huge bruise on my back which is very sore. Have some icy/hot patches on my back to make it thru sitting at work and those 800 mg of ibuprofen are my friends. I went for a short walk at lunch today and can feel it. Hopefully it will feel better in a couple of days.

Live2Cruise - we are proud of you ... 4 miles. Challenge met!

Folks, I'm in Vegas. I head to Zion and Bryce Canyons the next few days. I'll keep good paper records of walking and post when I get to a place with a computer again.

Joan, coaching changes are always hard. UW (or UDub, as its known locally) went through it just a few years ago and is just getting close to how good they once were. It is, of course, really different when the beloved coach leaves for another opportunity, as happened here. At NC State, you've got all the emotion surrounding Kay, her battle with breast cancer, and her death... I was happy to read last year about how well Kelly was handling stepping into that difficult situation. That program will always be identified with Kay, but over these next few years Kelly will be able to recruit her own players and rebuild and it'll start coming back. For the UDub program, getting back to the NCAA tournament will be a major achievement. Being in the PAC 10 with Stanford is sort of like being in the Big East with UConn... it makes it really obvious that the program here can only aspire to being the bridesmaid. The bar is in a different place for NC State.

You always play better when there's a bunch of fans there cheering for you. And watching the players arrive as freshman and seeing how they contribute to the team is a fun thing to do. So, I encourage you to buy tickets & support them.

NC State is no longer the cream of the crop of the ACC, though they and Maryland really were the powers of women's basketball in the conference in the early years. Now you hear lots about Carolina, Duke, Maryland, but I like our new coach and I like our future.

Joan, I may have to buy tickets to the University of WA games this year, if they're continuing to improve, though they have a really long way to go to be as good as NC State. All of the yelling I do during the WNBA season (we are known as the loudest arena in the league) is a great outlet - which my neighbors would probably prefer that I not do in front of my tv!

Oh yeah, and... We Won! We Won! We Won! Our Seattle Storm are the 2010 WNBA champs! Last night was the parade (in the rain) and celebration. What a blast! My sister and I agreed with one of the team captains, who said after they won the title that she was already feeling sad that the season was over and wanted to just start at the beginning again because it was so much fun. Now what do I do until the NCAA bball season starts?

I'm back! I had a "welcome back to the real world week", so I need to record some miles and get back on track with racking them up. I'm taking the H & R Block tax class (yes, hoping to get some work)a couple of nights a week, I got a temp assignment at the end of last week that was supposed to last 3 days but was extended, and the WNBA finals were the same week. (I did take one day off, so that I could go to the daytime class and watch the last game of the finals that night) I've barely been home enough to sleep, let alone walked or worked out as I'd planned!

I have walked 16.45 miles this month, 20.55 to go. A bit behind the pace. emoticon

I am heading to Iowa on Saturday to visit DD#3 at her new college. I think she is a little homesick. She moved from a large city to a small town. And she is likely finding that her "dream" job is hard work and she has alot to learn. There will be some walking there.

Sunday, I plan to bike to a work picnic, so except for walking to church and back, there will not be much walking then.
